Development of Modeling and control Methods for Multi-DOF dielectric polymer actuator

  • Principles and mechanism of energy transduction of dielectric polymer materials are well known from the various smart material related publications. However their introduction to industrial actuator applications is limited mainly due to difficulties guarantee controllability and reliability. Most of the previous publications have elaborates energy transduction physics of chunk of polymer while development of construction methods for feasible actuators made of the material is rarely proposed. In the present article, a conceptual design of multi-DOF linear polymer actuator construction that is to be controllable with moderate level of control work os introduced. In addition, numerical models that are developed with a unified energy based approach are presented not only for basic working mechanism analysis of the polymetric soft actuator but for providing analytical foundation to expend the concept toward design of multi-DOF actuator controls.

  • The parallel-type mechanism provides more accurate and stiff motion than the serial-type mechanism. However, in case of using the haptic device, the performance of the force reflection can be deteriorated due to the singular points existing in workspace. In this paper, we propose a redundantly actuated parallel 3-DOF haptic device, which is singularity-free in the workspace and has an improved force reflection capability. In addition, we propose a new force distribution algorithm, which can reflect force of both high and low resolution, using two sets of actuator with different size. Redundant actuators are attached to the base frame in order to minimize the inertia of the system. Moreover, a wire and gear reduction system is employed to achieve high force reflection along with soft feeling. We confirm the performance of the force reflection capability throughout simulation.

  • The most dominate aspect in machine works using CNC devices in industrial production processes is the precision of the product and the Cycle Time. To this day, many studies on the external factors of the technology to reduce the Cycle Time have advanced amid to the advancements in cam soft development for manual programs and the numerous studies on high speed and precision machining. This study experimented various functions of the sequence pattern flow and arranged system development technologies of past few years to develop and applicate various usage of adjustment factors within the CNC, so it would be more understandable to the user and would enable them to make high speed and precision products more faster develop and. In order to reduce the Cycle Time, the mechanism of machine tools has to be analysed and applied, in addition to program reduction and improvement of the manufacture process.

Simulated Fault Injection Using Simulator Modification Technique

  • In the current very deep submicron technology era, fault tolerant mechanisms perform an essential function to cope with the effects of soft errors. To evaluate the effectiveness of the fault tolerant mechanism, reliability engineers use simulated fault injections using either saboteur modules or mutants in the simulation model. However, the two methods suffer from both inefficiency in the simulation mechanism and difficulties with the experimental setups. To overcome these inefficiencies, we propose the Verilog-based simulated fault injection (VFI) technique. VFI has the following advantages. First, modification of the design model is unnecessary. Second, the fault injection simulation procedure is simple and efficient. Third, various types of fault injection experiments can be performed. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, we developed a VFI environment using the ICARUS Verilog Simulator. From the experimental results, we were able to qualitatively evaluate the reliability of the target simulation models and to assess the effectiveness of the employed fault-tolerance mechanisms.

  • A retractor is the major component of a seatbelt system that restraints passengers by locking the movement of webbing. Recently, in order to increase the effectiveness of seatbelt systems, motorized retractors that remove slack and correct passenger posture just before airbag expansion when collision is predicted are widely used. Key component of motorized retractors is the one-way clutch that engages and disengages the winding action of webbing according to the direction of motor revolution. Analytical investigation of action of the one-way clutch mechanism has been carried out to figure out conditions for one-way locking, and to study the effect of various kinematic and dynamic design variables of one-way clutch. Using combination of ADAMS and LifeMOD soft-wares, dynamic simulation of operation of motorized retractors including Hybrid-III dummy model has been carried out to evaluate the performance of the motorized retractors in various crash scenarios.

  • An Allium-odorum is difficult material to handle because it is soft and weak mechanically. For bundling work of allium-odorum, we must grip in the bundle shape of unit weight. However it is difficult to grip allium-odorum by hand because the bundle bulk is very big. Especially, in packing work, the bundle shape of allium-odorum package is more important than other vegetables because the sale price depend on the bundle shape. In this paper, we propose bundling mechanism for a rectangular shape, and semi-auto bundling mechanism by a eccentric roller and a triangular link. We carry out mechanical model and analysis respectively using the CATIA V5 and SimDesigner. We have manufactured the prototype of the semi-automatic bundling machine, and got satisfied result through field test. This machine is in the process of commercialization.

Model Test and Numerical Analysis for Failure Behaviour of Shallow Tunnel Considering Unsupported Tunnel Length (굴진장을 고려한 얕은 터널파괴거동에 대한 모형실험 및 수치해석)

  • During excavation of shallow tunnels in soft ground, failure mechanism around the tunnel face have major influence on the stability of tunnels. In this paper, a series of laboratory tests under plane strain condition on the small scale of a shallow tunnel considering unsupported tunnel length has been performed. The results have shown that tunnel failure mechanism changes from failure mode 1 to failure mode 2 as unsupported tunnel length increases. By comparing the experimental and the numerical results, the loosening pressure for the shallow tunnel and progressive failure have been investigated.

A Facial Expression Recognition Method Using Two-Stream Convolutional Networks in Natural Scenes

  • Aiming at the problem that complex external variables in natural scenes have a greater impact on facial expression recognition results, a facial expression recognition method based on two-stream convolutional neural network is proposed. The model introduces exponentially enhanced shared input weights before each level of convolution input, and uses soft attention mechanism modules on the space-time features of the combination of static and dynamic streams. This enables the network to autonomously find areas that are more relevant to the expression category and pay more attention to these areas. Through these means, the information of irrelevant interference areas is suppressed. In order to solve the problem of poor local robustness caused by lighting and expression changes, this paper also performs lighting preprocessing with the lighting preprocessing chain algorithm to eliminate most of the lighting effects. Experimental results on AFEW6.0 and Multi-PIE datasets show that the recognition rates of this method are 95.05% and 61.40%, respectively, which are better than other comparison methods.

  • Some of Asian eyelids have double fold and some do not. Many people tend to prefer double eyelid in aesthetic and functional reasons. Since the mechanism of double eyelid is bonding the eyelid skin to the eye-opening tissue, the principle of double eyelid surgery is also connecting the eyelid skin to levator component. Double eyelids are differentiated by their shape according to the height and curvature. The double eyelid surgery procedure is divided into incision method and nonincision method. And the incision method is subdivided into double fold line design, skin and oculi muscle incision or excision, pretarsal or preaponeurotic soft tissue excision, fixation of posterior lamella to anterior lamella, and skin suture. The nonincision method is to connect the posterior lamella and the anterior lamella as a thread only without an incision. A successful double eyelid surgery creates a fold well-balanced in height, curvature, and depth of the fold based on patient's preference. In this article, the author's own methods of performing surgery are described, with a step-by-step guide and surgical tips.

  • 전세계적으로 우울증은 정신 건강 질환으로써 문제가 되고 있으며, 이를 해결하기 위해 일상생활에서의 우울증 탐지에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 일상생활에 밀접하게 연관되어 있는 AI 스피커를 사용한 어텐션 메커니즘(Attention Mechanism) 기반 멀티모달 우울증 감지 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 AI 스피커로부터 수집할 수 있는 음성 및 텍스트 데이터를 수집하고 CNN(Convolutional Neural Network)과 BiLSTM(Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Network)를 통해 각 데이터에서의 학습을 진행한다. 학습과정에서 Self-Attention 을 적용하여 특징 벡터에 추가적인 가중치를 부여하는 어텐션 메커니즘을 사용한다. 최종적으로 음성 및 텍스트 데이터에서 어텐션 가중치가 추가된 특징들을 합하여 SoftMax 를 통해 우울증 점수를 예측한다.
