The objective of this paper is to quantitatively investigate the effects of alcohol mixture on the combustion improvement of main fuel in supplying alcohol to direct injection diesel engine by auxiliary injection method and blend method. If alcohol is supplied, engine performance greatly improves in high load range. In case of supplying ethanol, BSFC improves, the emission of smoke and NO decreases by delaying main fuel injection timing 5$\^{C}$A. The maximum delivery quantity of alcohol is limited to approximately 50% of total fuel delivery due to misfire and knocking. The limit quantity of main fuel injection that does not accompany misfire and the deterioration of BSFC was approximately 15∼18.5mg/st.
A study was made of the puff-by-puff delivery of menthol and tar for several commercial brands. The purpose of this study is for the brands constantly to maintain fresh aroma of menthol till the last puff in smoking. The results from this study could be used for development and evaluation of a mentholated cigarette. Prior to the purpose, a straightforward method from extraction through quantitative analysis of 9-menthol contained in cigarettes has been developed.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of additives in low sidestream cigarette papers, such as Mg$(OH)__2,\;TiO_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4$ on the delivery of mainstream and sidestream smoke. From the analysis of tar and nicotine in sidestream and mainstream smoke, the delivered ratios of tar and nicotine by sidestream to mainstream smoke in common cigarette paper were 5.32 and 8.60, respectively. However, the delivered ratios of those of the paper containing $Mg(OH)_2\;were\;2.25\~3.23,\;4.86\~7.14,\;Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4\;were\;2.12\~2.92,\;4.67\~6.89,\;TiO_2\;was\;3.21,\;7.51 $ respectively. The deliver patterns of semi-volatile components in the cigarettes were similar each there, but a slight different pattern in the amount was observed depending on the kinds of compounds added in cigarette papers. In the cigarettes made of $Mg(OH)_2$ added paper, the aromatic components such as benzene, toluene and phenol were generated more while the aliphatic components like neophytadiene, ethyl decanoate were delivered less than the cigarettes made of common cigarette papers. However, the cigarettes manufactured with $Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_2PO_4$ added paper showed an opposite trend. The cigarettes made of $TiO_2$ added paper showed relatively low delivery in the most compounds measured. In sensory evaluation, cigarette papers tested were noticed a distinguishable sensory character between the low sidestream smokes with additive cigarette papers except $TiO_2$ added one. Moreover, aroma patterns detected by a electronic nose system in TPM were a similar tendency.
Papermaking reconstituted tobacco is an important strategy for recycling the waste tobacco residues. To indentify the influences of the inorganic components on harmful components delivery in cigarette smoke, a self-made electrodialysis stack was assembled to desalt the tobacco extract. The influences of the applied current and extract content on the removal rate of the inorganic ions were investigated. Results indicated that the applied current was a dominant impact on the desalination performance. High currents lower than the limiting current density could accelerate the desalting efficiency but cause higher energy consumption. A current of 2 A, or current density of ${\sim}11mA{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, was an optimal choice by considering both the energy consumption and desalting efficiency. A 20% tobacco extract was an appropriate content for the electrodialysis process. More than 90% of inorganic ions could be removed under the optimum condition. The preliminary result indicated that removal of inorganic components was beneficial to decrease the harmful component delivery in cigarette smoke. Naturally, ED is an environmentally friendly and high-effective technology for desalting the tobacco extract.

Up to the 60's cigarette paper commercial grades were simply described as ' non combustible ', ' combustible ' or ' extra-combustible '. It was assumed that combustibility of the paper itself was correlated with cigarette combustibility. Since then, the characteristics of cigarette paper, like natural porosity and burning additives, which influence truly cigarette combustibility, have been described by various authors and it became clear to cigarette designers that paper combustibility was not generally a significant factor governing cigarette combustibility. On the other hand, for Roll Your Own(RYO)wrapping papers, the ECPCI has proposed to the CORESTA RYO Task Force to use paper combustibility, and specially the LCT test, to classify papers between low and high smoke delivery, and a new Task Force on PAPER COMBUSTIBILITY was recently set up to develop a recommended method. The objective of this presentation Is to show results demonstrating that for paper used on cigarettes, there is NO GENERAL CORTRELATION between PAPER and CIGARETTE combustibility. We will also show results confirming that, for the specific group of RYO booklet papers containing no burning additives, there is a correlation between paper combustibility and FCSA's Combustibility/smoke delivery. This apparent discrepancy will be explained by reviewing the role played by the various characteristics of cigarette paper in governing cigarette combustibility.
Process gases with vapor or liquid phase as well as gas phase may experience alteration in itself or be contaminated in the fluid pipe to the process chamber. And thus it result in as particles or defects on the substrates in semiconductor, LCD, LED manufacturing. Purifiers and filters are used for control of contamination. However, none of detection device is available in the delivery line. In this paper, we propose simple device with lighting and sensing in order to predict contamination of the fluid or the tube wall. For some general purpose gases, it showed constant voltage output regardless of the flow rates. But, the smoke and the moisture in the air lowered the figure due to its concentration. Numerical values for several solid and liquid media were obtained. And, the operating temperature tendency was investigated.
Coconut based activated carbon and silica-gels were impregnated with 3-aminopropyltri ethoxysilan(APS) and N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (AEAPS) in order to investigate the effect of the amine group and the pore size of the supports on the removal of hydrogen cyanide(HCN) and aldehydes in mainstream smoke(MS). The physicochemical properties of the supports were analyzed by using thermal gravity analyzer(TGA), $N_2$ adsorption and desorption isotherms$(BET,\;N_2)$, and SEM-EDS. According to our experimental data, there was no significant difference in the delivery amount of HCN and aldehydes of non-functionalized silica-gels having meso-pores bigger than $20\AA$. In the case of silica-gels functionalized with APS(APS silica-gel), the delivery amounts of hydrogen cyanide(HCN) and aldehydes decreased with the increase of APS concentration. Silica-gel functionalized with AEAPS(AEAPS silica-gel) showed higher removal efficiency than that of APS silica-gels. The delivery amounts of HCN and aldehydes of activated carbon impregnated with APS and AEAPS increased with the increase of the APS and AEAPS concentrations. In accordance with the specific surface area analysis results, APS and AEAPS molecules decreased the specific surface area by blocking the micro-pores of the activated carbon. The volatile organic components removal efficiency by the micro-pores was higher than that of the amine group impregnated into the activated carbon.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of triacetin(TA) treatment during manufacturing carbon dual filter for the adsorption of cigarette smoke components by activated carbons. The measurements were carried out by separation of activated carbon from carbon dual filter, and the specific surface area analyzed. The specific surface area of activated carbon from the domestic cigarette filter and from the foreign cigarette filter by degassing at 9$0^{\circ}C$ was 163$\pm$32$m^2$/g, and 16.6$\pm$1.9$m^2$/g, respectively. Those values were very lower than that of degassing at 35$0^{\circ}C$ (Domestic brand: 952$\pm$30$m^2$/g, and Foreign brand: 847$\pm$73$m^2$/g). By comparing the adsorption capacity of acetone and benzene with and without triacetin treated activated carbon, there was a 20% reduction of adsorption capacity by 5% triacetin treatment. Also, from the cilia toxicity test with carbon dual filter treated 0 % TA and 8 % TA, the cilia survival time was 706$\pm$74sec. and 603$\pm$64sec. for 0% TA and 8% TA, respectively. The delivery rate of vapour phase of cigarette smoke, which consists of main components of cilia toxicity, was higher at 8% TA filter than 0 % TA filter. Our results indicate that the treated TA covered the micro-pore of activated carbon, and then reduced specific surface area, finally, decreased the adsorption of vapour phase from cigarette smoke.
Objectives : This study was conducted to explore the relating factors with the delivery of low-birth-weight infants in Pyungtaek city. Methods : A questionnaire survey was obtained from 51 mothers with low-birth-weight babies and 90 mothers with full-term normal babies from April to October in 2001. Questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics, dietary habits including alcohol. drugging, and smoking, past and present disease, prenatal risk factors and prenatal check-up, and complications related to labor and delivery. Results : 1. In the low-birth-weight infants group, father's education level and mother's height were significantly lower, and proportion of old age mothers was significantly higher than those of the normal infant group. 2. Mothers with low-birth-weight infants experienced more premature rupture of membrane, placenta previa, ecclampsia, and twin pregnancy than mothers with normal infants. Gestational period of mothers with low-birth-weight infants was significantly shorter than that of mothers with normal infants. 3. No differences were found in eating habit, alcohol and drug ingestion, smoking, exposing to dangerous materials in two groups, but both groups were highly exposed to indirect smoking, although mothers rarely smoke. Conclusion : The findings of this study indicate that high risk group such as less educated, or older mothers need more prenatal health assessment and support from public health services. Addition to determine the risk factors related to the delivery of low-birth-weight infants, public health nurses pay more attention and develop efficient management system for vulnerable women and infants.
