  • Cis-trans forms of fatty acids in cigarette smoke condensate were separated and characterized using SP 2340 glass capillary gas chromatography. The transforms of fatty acids, palmitoeladic , 1-vaccenic, eladic and linoeladic acid were identified. These components were not present only 3% of the total fatty acid fraction, but they showed a very low transfer rate.

황색종 cyclic 건조엽의 화학성분 특성 (Effect of cyclic Change of Wet Bulb Temperature During Yellowing Stage on Chemical Properties of Flue-Cured Tobacco)

  • The bulk curing experiment to the improve the quality of flue-cured leaves were carried out to evaluate relationship between cyclic curing and conventional curing method. We studied the effect of the cyclic change of wet bulb temperature at the yellowing stage of flue curing on chemical properties of cured leaves. The wet bulb temperature was automatically controlled between preset high($38^{\circ}C$) and low point ($35^{\circ}C$) everyone hour cyclically during 12 hours after starting luring. As a result, the acceleration of the increase in the chemical properties of cured leaves were observed. As to the chemical properties, there was decreased in citric acid, increased in malic acid of the nonvolatile organic acids and all higher fatty acids content of leaves cured by this method compared with in that of conventional curing method, while a major chemical compounds in relation to aromatic essence of cigarette smoke in essential oil components of lured leaves was mostly higher in this method than those of conventional ones, and it was evaluated that there was decreased in CO, TPM, Tar, and $CO_2$ content of the cigarette smoke comparing to the conventional luring method.

과열증기처리에 의한 Burley종 각초의 물리성 및 연기성분 변화에 관한 연구 (Effect of Super Heated Steam Treatment on Physical Property and Smoke Component of Burley Cut Tobacco)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of super heated steam on the physical and chemical changes of burley cut tobacco. Total sugar, total alkaloid, ether extracts, crude ash, total nitrogen and pH for leaf chemical constituents were analyzed. Filling power and fineness index for physical properties, and carbonyl compounds, phenol compounds, amonia, pH, hydrogen cyanide nicotine, carbon monoxide, total volatile base and tar for smoke components were also analyzed. The cut tobacco treated with super heated steam showed significant decrease in total sugar and total alkaloid. The filling power of the sample treated with the super heated steam system was increased abruptly when heated at over 250℃. The fineness index showed similar tendency to that of common toast method. Super heated steam treatment slightly decreased carbonyl compounds, phenol compounds, hydrogen cyanide, nicotine, carbon monoxide and tar in the tobacco. Especially the decrease of ammonia was the most remarkable. The pH of smoke was a little different compared with that in the common toast. The sensory test results showed that, compared to the common conveyer moving system, the tobacco treated with super heated steam system brought out more roasted flavor, lowered impact, irritation, and sting, further improved aftertaste, and lowered bitterness. The super heated steam treatment method used in the studies is expected to give better filling power, mild taste and toasted odor of tobacco than that of the common method for toast treatment. 담배줄기를 이용한 판상엽 제조 (Tobacco Stalks Utilization Process for Making Reconstitute Tobacco Sheet)

  • The chemical components of tobacco stalk, stems of tobacco caltivations, were analyzed and reconstituted tobacco sheet were made from the stalk and tobacco hyproducts by rolled and paper reconstitute tobacco sheet making process. The results were summarized as follow 1. In the viewpoint of chemical components, nicotine, total nitrogen and ash content of stalk were lower than those of stems, but crude fiber was two times higher than stems. 2. Reconstituted tobacco sheet of tobacco stalk blended were improved fragility and specific gravity than those of control. 3. Smoke components delivery of cigarette made from reconstituted tobacco sheet of tobacco stalk blended were similar to control cigarette. 4. According to the result of ranking preference test for control and sample cigarette, were not recognized significant at 5 percent level. 5. According to the result of areas test for control and sample cigarette, were not recognized significant at 5 percent level. 6. Optimum stalk blend ratio of reconstituted tobacco sheet manufacturing was from about 20 to 40% to the rolled sheet, and was from about 5 to 10% to the paper making process tobacco sheet.

장기저장시 가공 원료잎담배의 이화학성 변화 (The Change of Physical and Chemical Properties of Processed Leaf Tobacco During Long-term Storage)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of physical and chemical properties and the usability of long-term stored leaf tobacco. The physical chemical properties of the flue-cured and burley leaves produced in 1993, processed in 1994 were analysed from Nov. 1996 to Nov. 1999. The pH and moisture content in leaf decreased slowly until 4 years’storage after processing, while those of leaf changed little thereafter. However, total sugar content continuously decreased until 5 years after processing. The filling capacity increased and shatter resistance index decreased in long-term stored leaf. The sensory test, cilia stasis and the chemical components of cigarette smoke had no significant differences between short and long-term stored leaves. When the processed leaves were stored till 5 years after processing, there were no deteriorative effects on quality and usability of leaf tobacco. Therefore, it is considered that the processed leaf may be stored for 5 years or more under the inevitable situation.

Characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds associated with Environmental Tobacco Smoke

  • In this study, a wide range of volatile organic constituents of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) were determined using an environmental chamber, where ETS is the sole source of target compounds. ETS was generated in an environmental chamber by a number of different cigarettes, including the Kentucky reference cigarette and eight different commercial brands. More than 30 compounds were measured simultaneously for a total of twelve experimental runs. The target compounds are classified into three major classes, i.e. vapor phase ETS markers including 3-ethnylpyridine (3-EP) and nicotine, carbonyl compounds including formaldehyde, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The results from the chamber study were used to generate characterized ratios of selected VOCs to 3-EP, a vapor phase ETS marker. Emission factors for VOCs associated with ETS were also estimated. The characteristic ratios appeared to be generally in good agreement with published data obtained by environmental chamber studies similar to this study. This implies that the ratios may be useful for identifying and quantifying the impact of ETS as a source of target compounds in 'real world' indoor environments, which is affected by a complex mixture of multi-sources. The environmental chamber method described here provides a direct and reliable method to compare the ETS generated by different cigarettes. The method can also be applied to the simultaneous determination of many different ETS components.

시트르산나트륨첨가(添加)에 의(依)한 담배의 연소성(燃燒性) 및 유해물감소(有害物減少)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Studies on Reduction of Harmful Compound and Combustibility of $Na_3$ Citrate-treated Cigarette)

  • 담배에 질산염을 청가하면 질소화합물이 증가되므로 질산염의 대체물(代替物)을 개발(開發)하기위한 실험을 한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 여러가지 첨가제 중에서 $0.6{\sim}1%$의 시트르산나트륨을 첨가하는 것이 연소성 및 Tar, Nicotine의 감소효과(減少效果)가 가장 양호했다. 특히 조연제첨가(助燃濟添加)에 따른 연소성(燃燒性)과 유해성분감소효과(有害成分減少效果) 및 열특성(熱特性)에 대(對)한 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 연소성이 좋으면 Tar, Nicotine, Bonzpyrene Phenols, NO, $NO_2E, 등의 유해성분이 감소됐다. 2) 단엽에 첨가(添加)된 질산염과 시트르산염의 시차열분석효과(示差熱分析效果)는 시트르산염 첨가시(時) L치(値)가 가장 적고 H치(値)가 가장 컸다. 3) 순수한 질산염과 시트르산염의 시차열분석(示差熱分析)에서 전자는 발열반응(發熱反應)이 없는데 후자는 발열반응(發熱反應)이 있었다. 4) $0.6{\sim}1%$의 시트르산나트륨 첨가시(時)에 Zone A에서는 Tar생성량이 많았고 Zone B에서는 Tar 생성량이 가장 적었다. 또한 이들 담배의 연기에서는 Tar, Nicotine, Phenols, Nitrogen oxides, Benzpyrene의 함량(含量)이 적었으며 연소성이 향상되었다.

저부류연 궐련지의 이화학적 특성과 주 $\cdot$ 부류연 연기성분 이행특성 (A Physico-chemical Characteristics of Low Sidestream Cigartette Papers and the Delivery Patterns of Mainstream and Sidestream Smoke)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of additives in low sidestream cigarette papers, such as Mg$(OH)__2,\;TiO_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4$ on the delivery of mainstream and sidestream smoke. From the analysis of tar and nicotine in sidestream and mainstream smoke, the delivered ratios of tar and nicotine by sidestream to mainstream smoke in common cigarette paper were 5.32 and 8.60, respectively. However, the delivered ratios of those of the paper containing $Mg(OH)_2\;were\;2.25\~3.23,\;4.86\~7.14,\;Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_{2}PO_4\;were\;2.12\~2.92,\;4.67\~6.89,\;TiO_2\;was\;3.21,\;7.51 $ respectively. The deliver patterns of semi-volatile components in the cigarettes were similar each there, but a slight different pattern in the amount was observed depending on the kinds of compounds added in cigarette papers. In the cigarettes made of $Mg(OH)_2$ added paper, the aromatic components such as benzene, toluene and phenol were generated more while the aliphatic components like neophytadiene, ethyl decanoate were delivered less than the cigarettes made of common cigarette papers. However, the cigarettes manufactured with $Mg(OH)_2\;and\;KH_2PO_4$ added paper showed an opposite trend. The cigarettes made of $TiO_2$ added paper showed relatively low delivery in the most compounds measured. In sensory evaluation, cigarette papers tested were noticed a distinguishable sensory character between the low sidestream smokes with additive cigarette papers except $TiO_2$ added one. Moreover, aroma patterns detected by a electronic nose system in TPM were a similar tendency.

기계식 탄화로와 재래식 토요를 이용하여 제조한 죽초액의 이화학적 특성: 식품처리제로서의 특성 (Physicochemical Characteristics of Bamboo Smoke Distillates Processed by Mechanical Steel Kiln and Traditional Earth Kiln)

  • 벌채 직후의 신선한 왕대(Phyllostachys bambuoides sieb. et zucc.)를 기계식 탄화로와 재래식 토요를 이용하여 탄화시키고 여기에서 발생하는 기체를 10$0^{\circ}C$ 전후에서 냉각시켜 얻은 각각의 조죽초액을 12개월간 정치하여 타르성분을 분리한 다음 중간부위를 취하여 죽초액의 일반특성과 성분조성을 조사하였다. 기계식 죽초액은 비중, 투과도, 굴절을 및 점도가 각각 1.008, 89.05%, 1.357%, 12.48 cp이었고 재래식 죽초액의 경우는 1.012, 98.33%, 1.34%, 9.09 cp이었다. 색깔은 재래식 죽초액이 기계식 죽초액에 비하여 더 맑고 투명하게 나타났다. 그리고 pH와 총유기산, 용해타르 및 작열잔사의 함량은 기계식 죽초액이 각각 3.55, 2.83%, 2.803%, 0.671%이었고 재래식 죽초액이 각각 2.93, 3.47%, 0.051%, 0.004%이었다. 죽초액의 성분조성에 대한 조사에서 두 가지 경우의 죽초액이 모두 페놀성 성분은 주로 phenol, o-cresol, p(m)-cresol, guaiacol(2-methoxy phenol) 등이 검출되었고 유기산 성분은 주로 acetic acid, propionic acid, iso-butyric acid, n-butyric acid등이 검출되었으며 알코올성분으로 methanol, furfuryl alcohol 및 maltol이 검출되었다. 페놀류와 알코올류의 함량은 기계식 죽초액의 편이 더 많고 유기산은 재래식 죽초액이 더 많이 함유되어 있었다.

버어리종 잎담배의 숙성기간이 색상, 화학성분 및 끽미에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Aging Period on Chromatic, Chemical and Organoleptic Properties of Burley Leaf Tobacco)

  • This study was carried out to examinate the effect of aging period on chromatic, chemical and organoleptic characteristics, and to evaluate of optimum aging period for each grade in burley leaf tobacco. The leaf tobaccos were produced in 2000, and threshed, redried and packed in carton box under the current methods. Four grades of processed leaf(A3T, B1T, C1W and D3W) were stored during 24 months (May 10, 2001 to April 31, 2003) in warehouse of Chungju Leaf Tobacco Processing Factory. The leaf tobaccos were sampled at three month intervals for analysis of chromatic, chemical and organoleptic properties. pH values of four grades, and Yellow(b) of A3T and BIT were also significantly decreased during the aging. Filling values, tar, nicotine and CO contents of tobacco smoke, and puff number of cigarettes were not significantly changed during the aging. Positive correlation coefficients were significantly observed between irritation of the calculated attributes from contents of volatile oil components in leaf tobacco and that of the panel sensory attributes. The ratio of maximum change in irritation attribute was larger than that in taste attribute during aging. The calculated irritations of 18~24 months aging for A3T and B1T were significantly lower than zero-aging, while those of C1W and D3W were not significant among aging periods. The panel irritations of 12~15 months aging for four grades were low tendency. The results suggest that decrease of aging period for thin leaf from 21~24 to 12~15 months may be beneficial to save storage cost in burley tobacco.
