  • We propose a smart human-computer interface replacing conventional mouse interface. The interface is able to control cursor and command action with only hand performing without object. Four finger motions(left click, right click, hold, drag) for command action are enough to express all mouse function. Also we materialize cursor movement control using image processing. The measure what we use for inference is entropy of EMG signal, gaussian modeling and maximum likelihood estimation. In image processing for cursor control, we use color recognition to get the center point of finger tip from marker, and map the point onto cursor. Accuracy of finger movement inference is over 95% and cursor control works naturally without delay. we materialize whole system to check its performance and utility.

  • RFID technology is considered as a promising solution to increase efficiency of port logistics. Especially active RFID technology, such as e-Seal for container security, is receiving attention nowadays. If active RFID system is combined with passive RFID and legacy bar-code system overall efficiency of port logistics can be improved However, due to the device dependent control interface of RFID readers, there are many difficulties in making active-passive combined RFID system environment. In this paper, we introduce Smart Reader Interface (SRI) system, which provides a device independent RFID reader interrace to control different kinds of RFID readers by hiding device dependent control interface through adapter architecture which is similar to device driver of conventional operating systems. The key design objectives of SRI are the followings; conformance to the related standard. efficiency in processing, easy addition of an adapter for a new RFID reader. Actually, the implemented SRI system can support various kinds of commercial RFID readers, and through the test carried out not only in laboratory but also in the container terminal in the GwangYang Port, its practicality is verified.

  • In order to synthesize the dye suitable for supercritical carbon dioxide(ScCO2) dyeing, a series of azo based disperse dyes were prepared using various aniline derivatives as diazo components and indol derivatives as coupling components. Dyeing process in ScCO2 of the synthesized dyes was performed on PET fiber at 120℃ for 2 hrs under 250bar pressure with 0.5% o.w.f. of dye concentration. The absorption maxima varied from 400 to 580nm depending on the substituted groups in aniline derivatives and the indol derivatives. The dyes showed high molar extinction coefficients(ε) of 27,000~61,000M-1cm-1. Dyed PET fiber exhibited excellent brightness and good light, washing and perspiration(acid/alkali) fastness properties.

  • Augmented reality applications offering location based service on smart phone require attention to users and new usability evaluation methods. The aim of this paper is to introduce new usability principles for application development and usability evaluation, and conduct expert evaluation on the augmented reality applications. We created a set of usability principles by analyzing characteristic of augmented reality applications, and conducted expert evaluation on three augmented reality applications primarily used by smart phone users. In expert evaluation and filtering procedure, we identified six usability problems that three applications have in common and the improvement guideline for the usability problems. The results of expert evaluation was verified by user test with a prototype that was developed using the guidelines. It is expect that the results of this study can be presented usability principles of the augmented reality application and a method of usability evaluation in the middle of new technology development process.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the usability and user interface in different types of mobile phones. KLM(key-stroke-level model) model estimation and observation values were calculated to perform 11 functional factors in 4 ordinary mobile phones and 4 smart phones. In results, it was found that the usability of ordinary phone is superior to smart phone in basic and simple function likes phone call. On the contrary, the usability of smart phone is superior to memorizing and picturing function. Current results can be used to anticipate the future effort to improve user interface design especially in smart phone.

  • Smart Camera provides intelligent vision functionalities which can interpret captured video, extract context-aware information and execute a necessary action in real-timeliness in addition to the functionality of network cameras which transmit the compressed acquired videos through networks. Intelligent vision algorithms demand tremendous computations so that real-time processing of computation of intelligent vision algorithms as well as compression and transmission of videos simultaneously is too much burden for a single CPU. Davinci processor of Texas Instruments is a popular ASSP(Application Specific Standard Product) which has dual core architecture of ARM core and DSP core and provides various I/O interfaces as well as networking interface and video acquiring interface necessary for developing digital video embedded applications. In this paper, we report the results of designing and implementing S/W for Davinci-based smart camera. We implement a face detection as an example of vision application and verify the implementation works well. In the future, for the development of a smart camera with more broad and real-time vision functionalities, it is necessary to study about more efficient vision application S/W architecture and optimization of vision algorithms on DSP core of Davichi processor.

  • This research suggests scenarios of learning in real life contexts with smart devices and provides user interface prototypes to show their characteristics more effectively. For this, literature review was conducted to understand the strength and limitations of current learning in which real life contexts are used. Then, the characteristics of smart devices as a support tool of learning service was reviewed. With such understand, a user research was executed to establish 10 design guidelines for learning service in real life contexts. Finally, this paper suggested two scenarios that shows learning in real life contexts as case studies and their detailed user interface protypes.

  • Recently the market of smart phone applications grows very fast. And users want more various and rich experiments using enhanced smart phone functions. But the development of smart phone applications is not an easy job. Specially to control smart phone sensors can be realized by using each native programming languages in experts level. Moreover the process needs separate development based on each smart phone OS. Development of the Web-based smart phone application using Web Common APIs, known as 'WebApp', is one of solutions to overcome these problems. The method includes interface constructions with HTML, and Web Common API calls and accesses to smart phone device APIs with Java scripts. In this paper, the experience in development of the smart phone e-book application is introduced, which is implemented with comport and OS independent WebApp development method.

  • After 2011, with the spread of smart devices, large interfaces using the architectural space elements here and there in the cities. Recently the desire for the data has increased, and, following the increase of the range of use by the users, the communication utilizing various forms of interfaces is expected to become more active. In the past, certain range of architecture or parts of the facilities were as the interfaces, but, recently, the development of media technology and the display of various contents forced the utilization of many elements of architectural space in the interface aspects that were not used in the past. Accordingly, the research compare the relationship of the purpose, media environments, interface technology, data form and so on and consider the characteristic of what elements of architectural space are used in order to analyze the characteristic of interfaces used in digital art works. Especially, the research will consider the possibility of commercializing the trends in the interfaces of digital art works in the mediation region of city information services, and propose how to apply such possibility.
