This work presents the buckling investigation of embedded orthotropic nanoplates such as graphene by employing a new refined plate theory and nonlocal small-scale effects. The elastic foundation is modeled as two-parameter Pasternak foundation. The proposed two-variable refined plate theory takes account of transverse shear influences and parabolic variation of the transverse shear strains within the thickness of the plate by introducing undetermined integral terms, hence it is unnecessary to use shear correction factors. Nonlocal governing equations for the single layered graphene sheet are obtained from the principle of virtual displacements. The proposed theory is compared with other plate theories. Analytical solutions for buckling loads are obtained for single-layered graphene sheets with isotropic and orthotropic properties. The results presented in this study may provide useful guidance for design of orthotropic graphene based nanodevices that make use of the buckling properties of orthotropic nanoplates.
An original quasi-3D hyperbolic shear deformation theory for simply supported functionally graded plates is proposed in this work. The theory considers both shear deformation and thickness-stretching influences by a hyperbolic distribution of all displacements within the thickness, and respects the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without using any shear correction coefficient. By expressing the shear parts of the in-plane displacements with the integral term, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the proposed theory is reduced to four as against five in the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and common quasi-3D theories. Equations of motion are obtained from the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for dynamic problems are determined for simply supported plates. Numerical results are presented to check the accuracy of the proposed theory.

In Wyner-Ziv coding, video signals are reconstructed by correcting side information generated by block-based motion estimation/compensation at the decoder. The correction is not always accurate due to the limited number of parity bits and early stopping of low-density parity check accumulate (LDPCA) decoding in distributed video coding, or due to the limited number of measurements in distributed compressive video sensing. The blocking artifacts caused by block-based processing are usually conspicuous in smooth areas and degrade the perceptual quality of the reconstructed video. Conventional deblocking filters try to remove the artifacts by treating both sides of the block boundary equally; however, coding errors generated by block-based processing are not necessarily the same on both sides of the block boundaries. Such a block-wise difference is exploited in this paper to improve deblocking for Wyner-Ziv frameworks by designing a filter where the deblocking strength at each block can be non-identical, depending on the reliability of the reconstructed pixels. Test results show that the proposed filter not only improves subjective quality by reducing the coding artifacts considerably, but also gains rate distortion performance.
The hygro-thermo-mechanical bending behavior of sigmoid functionally graded material (S-FGM) plate resting on variable two-parameter elastic foundations is discussed using a four-variable refined plate theory. The material characteristics are distributed within the thickness direction according to the two power law variation in terms of volume fractions of the constituents of the material. By employing a four variable refined plate model, both a trigonometric distribution of the transverse shear strains within the thickness and the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate are respected without utilizing shear correction factors. The number of independent variables of the current formulation is four, as against five in other shear deformation models. The governing equations are deduced based on the four-variable refined plate theory incorporating the external load and hygro-thermal influences. The results of this work are compared with those of other shear deformation models. Various numerical examples introducing the influence of power-law index, plate aspect ratio, temperature difference, elastic foundation parameters, and side-to-thickness ratio on the static behavior of S-FGM plates are investigated.
An array based, outward monitoring, ultrasonic guided wave based SHM technique using a single transmitter and multiple receivers (STMR), with a small footprint is discussed here. The previous implementation of such SHM arrays used a phase-reconstruction algorithm (that is similar to the beam-steering algorithm) for the imaging of reflectors. These algorithms were found to have a limitation during the imaging of defects/reflectors that are present in the "near-field" of the array. Here, the "near-field" is defined to be approximately 3-4 times the diameter of the compact array. This limitation is caused by approximations in the beam-steering reconstruction algorithm. In this paper, a migration-based reconstruction algorithm, with dispersion correction in the frequency domain, is discussed. Simulation and experimental studies are used to demonstrate that this algorithm improves the reconstruction in the "near-field" without decreasing the ability to reconstruct defects in the "far-field" in both isotropic and anisotropic plates.

This paper demonstrates the possibility of evaluating the safety of a building right after an earthquake using consumer-grade surveillance cameras installed in the building. Two cameras are used in each story to extract the time history of interstory drift during the earthquake based on camera calibration, stereo triangulation, and image template matching techniques. The interstory drift of several markers on the rigid floor are used to estimate the motion of the geometric center using the least square approach, then the horizontal interstory drift of any location on the floor can be estimated. A shaking table collapse test of a steel building was conducted to verify the proposed approach. The results indicate that the accuracy of the interstory drift measured by the cameras is high enough to estimate the damage state of the building based on the fragility curve of the interstory drift ratio. On the other hand, the interstory drift measured by an accelerometer tends to underestimate the damage state when residual interstory drift occurs because the low frequency content of the displacement signal is eliminated when high-pass filtering is employed for baseline correction.
In this paper, a new higher order shear deformation model is developed for static analysis of functionally graded beams with considering porosities that may possibly occur inside the functionally graded materials (FGMs) during their fabrication. The model account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the beam without using shear correction factors. The present work aims to study the effect of the distribution forms of porosity on the bending of simply supported FG beam. Based on the present higher-order shear deformation model, the equations of motion are derived by the principle of virtual works. Navier type solution method was used to obtain displacement and stresses, and the numerical results are compared with those available in the literature. A comprehensive parametric study is carried out to assess the effects of volume fraction index, porosity fraction index, and geometry on the bending of imperfect FG beams. It can be concluded that the proposed model is simple and precise for the resolution of the behavior of flexural FGM beams while taking into account the shape of distribution of the porosity.

It is important for advanced active safety systems and autonomous driving cars to get the accurate estimates of the nearby vehicles in order to increase their safety and performance. This paper proposes a sensor fusion method for radar and vision sensors to accurately estimate the state of the preceding vehicles. In particular, we performed a study on compensating for the lateral state error on automotive radar sensors by using a vision sensor. The proposed method is based on the Interactive Multiple Model(IMM) algorithm, which stochastically integrates the multiple Kalman Filters with the multiple models depending on lateral-compensation mode and radar-single sensor mode. In addition, a Probabilistic Data Association Filter(PDAF) is utilized as a data association method to improve the reliability of the estimates under a cluttered radar environment. A two-step correction method is used in the Kalman filter, which efficiently associates both the radar and vision measurements into single state estimates. Finally, the proposed method is validated through off-line simulations using measurements obtained from a field test in an actual road environment.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are comprised of wireless mobile nodes characterized by a randomly changing topology, high mobility, availability of geographic position, and fewer power constraints. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising candidate for the physical layer of VANET because of the inherent characteristics of the spectral efficiency and robustness to channel impairments. The susceptibility of OFDM to Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) is a challenging issue. The high mobility of nodes in VANET causes higher Doppler shifts, which results in ICI in the OFDM system. In this paper, a frequency domain com-btype channel estimation was used to cancel out ICI. The channel frequency response at the pilot tones was estimated using a Least Square (LS) estimator. An efficient interpolation technique is required to estimate the channel at the data tones with low interpolation error. This paper proposes a robust interpolation technique to estimate the channel frequency response at the data subcarriers. The channel induced noise tended to degrade the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the system. Parallel concatenated Convolutional codes were used for error correction. At the decoding end, different decoding algorithms were considered for the component decoders of the iterative Turbo decoder. A performance and complexity comparison among the various decoding algorithms was also carried out.
There are two cases of error occurrence of STT(Smart Temperature Transmitter). One is that because of unstable reference voltage, data from A/D converter is not reliable. The other is that because of change of room temperature, this change affects conversion of A/D converter. In this paper, we show algorithms be adapted to STT for reliable conversion of A/D converter through a experiment and compensation for temperature change. In a experiment, we collect data from reference voltage and ground then calculate nominal value of these at constant temperature during A/D converter initialization or at any conversion time. Algorithm for compensation for unstable reference voltage calculates a correction factor and adapts it to compensation for malfunction of A/D converter. Algorithm for compensation for variation of room temperature is come from linearization of thermistor but is adapted to zener diode, not thermistor, therefor we have less effort for compensation for temperature and have a idea that it can be adapted to A/D converter system.
