This paper describes the improvement of engine cooling system. To improve engine cooling performance, the authors approached in two ways. One is to increase water pump performance, changing of impeller shape and lightening of material were carried out. The second one is cooling efficiency rise, which were investigated with head gasket coolant flow passage optimization with flow visualization technique. The test results show that water pump performance was increased effectively, reduction of pump drive torque, and increase of pump flow-rate and pressure rise. Gasket hole pattern optimization test results represent an optimized head coolant flow which stands cross flow from exhaust to intake port side and small vortex were removed.

Deep Ocean Water is formed within restricted area including polar sea (high latitude) by cooling of surface seawater and globally circulated in the state of insolation with surface seawater. Although not as obvious as estuaries mixing, Brine groundwater is mixture of recirculated seawater and groundwater. Seawater having high osmotic pressure infiltrate into unconfined aquifer where is connected to the sea. The ions dissolved in seawater are present in constant proportions to each other and to the total salt content of seawater. However deviation in ion proportions have been observed in some brine groundwater. Some causes of these exception to the Rule of constant proportions are due to many chemical reactions between periphery soil and groundwater. While Deep Ocean Water (DOW) have a large quantity of functional trace metals and biological affinity relative to brine groundwater, DOW have relatively small amount of harmful bacteria and artificial pollutants.
The rapid water pollution in stream, river, lake and sea in recent years raises an urgent need for continuous monitoring and policymaking to conserve the global clean environment. In particular, the increasing water pollution in coastal marine areas adds to the importance of the environmental monitoring systems. In this paper, the mobile server is designed to gathers information of the water quality at coastal areas. The obtained data by the server is transmitted from field servers to the base station via multi-hop communication in wireless sensor network. The information collected includes dissolved oxygen(DO), hydrogen ion exponent(pH), temperature, etc. By the information provided the real-time monitoring of water quality at the coastal marine area. In addition, wireless sensor network-based flooding routing protocol was designed and used to transfer the measured water quality information efficiently. Telosb sensor node is programmed using nesC language in TinyOS platform for small scale wireless sensor network monitoring from a remote server.

King Sejong's Striking water-clock which brought in use on the first of July in 1434 was mainly composed of timekeeping and time announcing parts signalling twelve double-hours, and five night-watches and night-watch-divisions automatically by means of ball-operating jackworks. The clock was arranged with dual timekeeping system, the one for a full day(twelve double-hours) and the other for five night-watches achieving twelve double-hours and one-hundred interval horary systems. The vessels were arrayed in inflow-type water-clock, a large reservoir on the highest story, a constant-level tank for supplying water to the measuring vessel evenly in the middle, and the lowest tank to receive water from the above constant-level tank. An indicator-rod on the float was raised upwards depending on the water-level increase to show timing scales and also to release small bronze balls from the ball-rack mechanisms implanted on the measuring vessel to signal timing intervals.

In this study optimal analysis of pipe network was performed using linear and non linear analysis method for complex real pipe network system of Mungyeong water purification field system which consists of 70 nodes and 86 elements. From the examination result of total flow which is distributed to each pipe, it is found that KYPIPE2 Model supplies less amount than NLAM. It is known that dynamic water level and pressure head of KYPIPE2 Model and NLAM are nearly in accordance with each other from each method of the pipe network analyses, and appeared that both methods of analysis shows high reliable result since the distribution of dynamic water level for every node is the short range of EL. 205.0m~EL. 210.0m besides the pressed dynamic water level. The analysis results of pressure in the methods of pipe network analysis for KYPIPE2 Model and NLAM are similar and it is satisfactory result that the pressure distributions of the tab water design criterion of 5.0kgf/cm$^2$ besides the small part of highland.

This paper presents the results of a pilot study and verification of a concept of a novel methodology for damage detection and assessment of water distribution system. The unique feature of the proposed noninvasive methodology is the use of accelerometers installed on the pipe surface, instead of pressure sensors that are traditionally installed invasively. Experimental observations show that a sharp change in pressure is always accompanied by a sharp change of pipe surface acceleration at the corresponding locations along the pipe length. Therefore, water pressure-monitoring can be transformed into acceleration-monitoring of the pipe surface. The latter is a significantly more economical alternative due to the use of less expensive sensors such as MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) or other acceleration sensors. In this scenario, monitoring is made for Maximum Pipe Acceleration Gradient (MPAG) rather than Maximum Water Head Gradient (MWHG). This paper presents the results of a small-scale laboratory experiment that serves as the proof of concept of the proposed technology. The ultimate goal of this study is to improve upon the existing SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) by integrating the proposed non-invasive monitoring techniques to ultimately develop the next generation SCADA system for water distribution systems.
PPCP (pharmaceuticals and personal care products) is known as micropollutant that is released from wastewater treatment plant. Research represents that these contaminants have increased in the last 10 years. This study tries to make four different trickling filter systems using plastic fiber media to remove PPCP such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine. The results of the experiment that compares the process efficiencies of four different systems (A, B, C and D) using HBC media show that almost all the reactor has around 95% removal efficiency. Slope type HBC reactor has twice higher efficiency rather than submerged type reactor to remove PPCP in water system. In 8 hours, 89% of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, caffeine are removed in slope type reactor while 39% of them in submerged type.
In this study, the numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the hydrodynamic evaluation between double plate steel rudder and newly designed foil type rudder for small fishing boat. The simulations are carried out in 2 speed ranges with 7 variations of flow's angle of attack which is at intervals of about 5 degree respectively. As the well-known commercial code, FLUENT and CATIA are used as the solver. The simulation results show that new designed foil type rudder is better than conventional double plate rudder in terms of Lift and Drag of running boat in the water.
In the present study, a reliability analysis calculating the probability of system failure has been performed using cut set and results of numerical analysis for unsteady flow in pipe. Especially, the probability of system failure has been evaluated regarding the effect of valve closure which is a really important activity in operation of piping system. In spite of small amount of demand, it was found that fast valve closure can generate high probability of system failure. Furthermore, it was confirmed that surge tank can reduce the unsteady effects and probability of system failure in water distribution system. From the results, it was found that the unsteady flow has a significant effect on the probability of system failure Furthermore, it was able to find which pipe or cut set has high probability of system failure. So it could be used to determine which pipe or cut set has a priority of repair and replacement. Therefore, reliability analysis regarding unsteady flow has to be performed for the planning, designing, maintenance, and operation of piping system.
A dispered power system means a little bit of small power generation equipment located near the power-damend areas. Due to no power supply line, such a power source is very favorable for the decrease in loss of electric power supply, in comparison to the giantly focused power source, Because of small power source, this power source also corresponds promptly to the variation of power demend. On the basis of energy saving, environmental reservation, and utilization of natural or unused energy, solar power plants can be introduced into the residence section of cities and small water or wind-power plants near the urban areas. In case of Korea, some wind farm have been introduced into Cheju island, Condensed introduction of several small power sources into an used distribution line may, however, result in a big problem, it is, therefore, necessary that protective-cooporative plans between power quality and distribution line should be introduced for efficient utilization of KEPCO distribution system.
