  • One-year post-occupancy evaluation was performed for a newly built hospital. Total of 133 in-patients were asked to evaluate their satisfaction on a scale of 1-5, and the lowest score was reported on the categories of the following : rest area insufficiency (2.939), inconvenient in-house shop (3.052), and too small patient room (3.065). We suggest several modifications of hospital structure to improve patient satisfaction.

  • Considering six screen matrix to select an optimum remediation method for the Kunsan military base contaminated with petroleum oil, the following order was obtained: landfarming > biopile > soil washing > thermal desorption = incineration. When the landfarming method was applied for the remediation of 2,250 $m^3$ soil contaminated with petroleum oil ranging from 500 to 2,404 mg/kg as TPH, contamination level decreased below target concentration 450 mg/kg after 20~42 days depending on the initial contamination. From the evaluation of case studies of landfarming, it is suggested that ratty-truss or single-arch structure is suitable in the landfarming plant for the treatment of large-scale contaminated soil requiring long period of remediation. But, vinyl-house structure is suitable in the landfarming plant for the treatment of small-scale contaminated soil requiring short period of remediation. Therefore vinyl-house structure is recommended in the remediation of contaminated soil less than 5,000 $m^3$ requiring within 1 year of remediation period but ratty-truss or single-arch structure is recommended for the remediation of contaminated soil more than 5,000 $m^3$.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the spatial characteristics of the parcels in which building construction occurred. In recent, urban development patterns in Korea have been shifting from the past. Small-scale development at parcel level is becoming more important in accordance with individual location needs in the low-growth era unlike public lead large-scale urban development in the rapid growth period. Therefore, it is necessary to study the spatial characteristics of the parcels where small-scale development takes place for future urban development management. This study used the chi square independence test, t-test and ANOVA (analysis of variance) to identify the spatial characteristics. The results of the study show that there is a spatial characteristics difference not only between building construction and non-building construction parcels, but also by type of building construction. The parcel where the building construction occurred have a higher proportion in detached house, major commercial districts, district unit planning areas, and commercial areas. In addition, it is caused by parcels, which are large scale and economically valuable, and are influenced by traffic factors such as urban centers and subway accessibility. As a result of each type of building construction, the parcels where the building use change occurred have spatial characteristic difference compared to other building construction, while the spatial characteristics are similar between the new construction/extension and new construction/extension with change of use. Based on this results, it will be possible to identify areas with high demand for small-scale development in the future and to utilize them for planning management of urban development. Furthermore, it will be possible to manage development demand by type of building construction, and to prepare differentiated plans considering the appropriateness of development plan, availability of infrastructure, and harmony with surrounding environment.

  • Analysis of pressures measured on the roof of the full-scale Texas Tech building and a 1/50 scale model of a typical house showed that the pressure fluctuations on cladding fastener and cladding-truss connection tributary areas have similar characteristics. The probability density functions of pressure fluctuations on these areas are negatively skewed from Gaussian, with pressure peak factors less than -5.5. The fluctuating pressure energy is mostly contained at full-scale frequencies of up to about 0.6 Hz. Pressure coefficients, $C_p$ and local pressure factors, $K_l$ given in the Australian wind load standard AS1170.2 are generally satisfactory, except for some small cladding fastener tributary areas near the edges.

  • This research aimed at showing an improvement direction in the future by analyzing the tendency to select a rural landscape housing and the characteristics centering around the data of the landscape-authenticated housing executed in Chuncheon City from 2005 to 2008. For 4 years, 25 houses in all were authenticated by Chuncheon City after being selected as landscape housing. As the result of analyzing the authenticated 25 housing, lots of landscape houses were located in natural green areas, and small-scale houses of $99m^2$ or less in the house size were preferred. The structures introducing the nature-friendly materials such as wood, yellow earth and clay continued to increase in the house structure. And in the selection of the authenticated houses, the landscape architecture and the harmony with the surrounding environment had a big effect on the selection.

  • This study is to analyze the situation of residential area in Down Town and to research any factor of difficulty in developing residential area. First, we can summarize briefly in consequence of analyzing the residential environment classified with apartment and independent house in Down Town. 1) The apartment houses located in Down Town were constructed long ago on a small scale. The field investigation shows that parking lots are not enough and there are many spaces used inappropriately. 2) Each detached house was too old and built in narrow spaces. The irregular narrow lanes between houses also cause problems in walking and parking. And empty houses are found in that area. Second, the brief results of analyzing difficulties in developing the residential area in Down Town are as follows. 1) The land and buildings have difficulty in reconstruction because of the deterioration. 2) The economical efficiency is low though it is developed as a residential area. 3) There are some factors that they don't like to live in Down Town. 4) The law system is not enough to support the development of the residential area in Down Town

  • The artificial intelligence software market is developing in various fields world widely. In particular, there is a wide variety of applications for image recognition technology using deep learning. This study intends to apply image recognition technology to the 'Home Gardening' market growing rapidly due to COVID-19, and aims to build a small-scale smart farm in the house using artificial intelligence and IoT technology for convenient crop cultivation for busy people living in cities. This intelligent farm system includes an automatic image recognition function and recommendation function based on temperature and humidity sensor-based indoor environment analysis.
