  • Thanks to the characteristic of high-rise buildings, the increase of wind speed according to the height of a building makes it possible to use high wind power resources, many countries led by some advanced nations are recently making steady and persistent effort in introducing small wind turbine systems as a step to lower electric power load in high-rise buildings. The aim of this research is to propose an optimum application process of a small wind turbine system in high-rise buildings. To achieve this goal, the case studies on the applications of high-rise and tall buildings were conducted and the best application among them was selected. On the basis of the case studies, an application process was proposed.

  • In order to design an effective foot surface which can provide adequate friction for a self-propelled medical microrobot moving inside the small intestine, frictional mechanisms between the small intestine inner wall and the foot surface of the robot must be understood. In this paper, mechanical interlocking effect was considered to design the surface of the foot that can generate the desired frictional force. The concept of the design was derived from the hookworm that lives inside the small intestine. Hookwarms are known to adhere to the small intestine wall by interlocking with villi on the surface of the small intestine. The interlocking mechanism was considered as the main frictional mechanism for the design of the microrobot foot surface in this work. 2 mm and 6 mm diameter solid and hollow cylindrical shaped foot specimens were designed and tested to assess the frictional force between the specimens and the porcine small intestine specimen.

  • Recently, capsule endoscope was developed to observe small intestine in human body. However, the capsule does not have any locomotive ability, which reduces the benefit of the capsule endoscope. Many researches have done to give locomotion to the capsule, still it consumes too much power to generate the motion by small battery. One of the moving method is electrical stimulus that consumes less power than many methods. The electrical stimulus method causes contraction in the small intestine, and it moves the capsule. Some of papers showed it is possible to guide the capsule by electrical stimulus, however the relationship between electrical stimulus at the mucous and contraction force in the small intestine is not reported, yet. In this paper, the mucous in the small intestine was stimulated, and measured the contraction force in the small intestine is shown. The result shows, the relationship between electrical stimulus parameters (voltage, duration) and contraction force. Also, equation between electrical stimulus parameters and contraction force is roughly induced.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of experimental learning using the small-scale chemistry (SSC) on high school students' academic achievement, scientific attitude and science-related attitude in high school chemistry I. For this study, two high school 2nd grade classes were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Experimental learning using the SSC in the experimental group, traditional experimental learning presented in the textbook in the control group were performed. The results showed that experimental learning using the SSC compared to traditional experimental learning was effective in improving academic achievement. The experimental learning also was effective in improving voluntary, patience, cooperativity in the scientific attitudes and social implications of science, attitude for science curriculum, attitude toward science in the science-related attitudes. Therefore, experimental learning using the SSC is necessary to actively utilize in high school chemistry curriculum.

  • Small cell carcinoma is mainly found in the lungs and extrapulmonary origins of small cell carcinoma in GI tract, head and neck, genitourinary system consists only 4% of the tumor. Thus, small cell carcinoma of the parotid gland is an extremely rare disease. Extrapulmonary small cell carcinoma is characterized by an aggressive clinical course with early metastasis. We report a case of small cell carcinoma of parotid gland in a 82-year-old woman with painless neck mass, who was managed with radiation therapy after surgery and review of relevant literatures.

  • The incidence of appendiceal metastatic cancer is quite low. In particular, in small cell lung cancer, there is a very low incidence of a metastasis to the appendix. A 75-years old man with right lower quadrant pain, cough and sputum was transferred to our hospital. Abdominal CT revealed acute appendicitis with a perforation. The patient underwent surgery. The frozen sections of the tissue obtained during surgery, indicated a malignancy, but a right hemicolectomy was not performed due to the patient's poor general condition. The histology findings of the appendix were identified as a small cell carcinoma. The abdominal CT scan and chest x-ray at admission day showed a mass in the right lower lobe, and a further evaluation of the lesion was performed including positron emission tomography and flexible bronchoscopy with a biopsy. The pathology findings of the lung mass were also small cell lung cancer. The specimens from both sites stained positive for cytokeratin, cluster designation 56, synaptophysin, chromogranin-A and thyroid transcription factor 1. It was concluded that the appendiceal small cell cancer originated from the lung.

  • The small craft including jet-board for leisure are commonly smaller than the general commercial vessels. For the floating vessel, the motion analysis is significantly important component to design the shape. It is, however, hardly predicting its behavior by using conventional boundary element method due to violating small amplitude assumption for potential theory. The computational fluid dynamics method can afford to simulate such small craft, but its grid system was not able to calculate motion, because movable body disturbs the grid system by confliction. The dynamics fluid body interaction model with over-set mesh system can be dealt with movable floating body under irregular ocean wave. In this study, several cases were considered to reveal that DFBI is essential method to predict floating body motion. The single phase simulate was conducted to establish the shape perfection, and then the validated vessel was simulated with ocean waves weather DFBI option on or off. Through the comparison, the results between the cases of DFBI on and off shows significantly difference. It was claimed that the DFBI was necessary not only to calculation body motion, but also to predict accurate drag and lift force on the floating body for small size craft.

  • The purpose of this project is to create small parks in elementary schools in order to improve the educational environment and also to increase the amount of greenspace in the city. Above all, the main goal is to create space for local residents in which they can enjoy their leisure time. During a basic investigation and document investigation of elementary schools in Daegu, I placed the priority on choosing the schools that showed the most promise. Also, by doing a survey about the present conditions at schools, I verified, compared, and analyzed the validity of creating small parks in elementary schools. The summary of the results are as follows. The average area available for building small parte in Daegu elementary schools is $7,447m^2$. Even though this area is not as large as a neighborhood parti the difference is not that great. Therefore, I assumed that building small parks in schools would be as effective as building neighborhood parks. The standard size for a children's parks is $1,500m^2$, and if small parks were to be constructed in all school areas with available space larger than a children's park (i.e., larger than $1,500m^2$), the amount of added park greenspace would equal $1,217,953m^2$. The number of schools with areas under $1,500m^2$ is only 3% of all schools in which small parte can be created(5 schools). Schools that have between $1,500m^2$ and $8,000m^2$of greenspace make up 59.7% of all schools in which small parte can be created (98 schools). Schools that have greenspace of more than $8,000m^2$ make up 37% of all school in which small parks can be created (61 schools). The standard area for neighborhood parte is $10,000m^2$ (building-to-land ratio 20%). Schools that have areas that are larger than the standard area for neighborhood parte make up 31% of all elementary schools in Daegu (61 schools). Therefore city greenspace would increase to a total of $694,805m^2$ by making use of these schools, which would represent 7% of the park greenspace in Daegu.
