The objective of this study was to determine the effect of replacing perlite (PL) with pellets processed with poultry feather fiber as an inert material to prepare growing medium. The growth and flowering of Salvia splendens 'Vista Red' grown in individual growing medium $Biosangto^{(R)}$, peat moss (PM), PL, and two pellets (P45-1 and P45-2) were evaluated. Peat moss was mixed with PL, P45-1, or P45-2 at various ratios (1:0 to 1:3 or 3:1 by volume) to investigate the feasibility of replacing PL with pellets. Nutrient composition of the growing medium and leaf tissues was analyzed. The number of florets, inflorescence length, plant height, and fresh weight of plants grown in media containing P45-1 or P45-2 were reduced compared to those grown in individual growing medium PM or PL. As the mixing ratio of P45-1 or P45-2 to PM was higher, the growth of salvia, such as inflorescence length, plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight was inhibited. Our results indicate that mixing three parts PM with one part of P45-1 (PM/P45-1/3:1) or P45-2 (PM/P45-2/3:1) accelerated flowering and increased the number of florets and leaves compared to other mixing ratios of PM and pellets media. The concentrations of phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), boron (B), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) in individual growing medium PL, P45-1, and P45-2 were significantly lower than those in PM. The concentration of N was the highest in leaves of plants grown in P45-1 or P45-2 amended media, and the concentrations of P, Ca, and zinc (Zn) in leaves were lower in individual growing medium P45-1 or P45-2 than in PM and PL. The pH of PM/P45-1/3:1 or PM/P45-2/3:1 media was maintained at optimal level (5.8-5.9) and the concentrations of macro- and micro-elements in the media and leaves were considered to be optimal levels. Therefore, mixing three parts PM with one part P45-1(PM:P45-1/3:1) or P45-2 (PM:P45-2/3:1) is recommended for improved growth and flowering in salvia. This suggests that P45-1 or P45-2 can replace PL as an inert material to prepare growing medium.
Ammonium desorption from 16 soils treated with $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ solution (2000 ppm $NH_4$) was investigated by seven extractions with 0.01M $CaCl_2$. 1. There were 2 to 4 steps alternately appeared with fast and slow mode. 2. Desorption equation, log y=b-ax where y is desorption amount, b a constant indicating adsorption maximum, a retention constant, and x extraction number, was held for each step. 3. Desorption rate (100${\times}$desorption / adsorption) was 65% for the average of 15 soils, maximum 87% in Gimcheon series, minimum 32% in Samgag series. Yongho series (a peat soil) showed 156% indicating the release of large quantity of indigenous soil ammonium. 4. Desorption rate was negatively correlated with initial adsorption and in this relation the tested soils were classified into 3 groups. 5. The cumulative desorption curve was approaching almost to maximum in all tested soils with seven extractions. The final retention amount, ranged from 25% of CEC (Gimhae series) to 502% (Samgag Series). 6. Amount and rate of desorption did not have any significant relation with Langmuir adsorption maxima of ammonium, CEC and contents of clay, available phosphorus and organic matter. 7. The above results may indicate that adsorption and desorption of ammonium is closely related with iron, aluminum silicate and adsorption and desorption characteristics of accompanied anions.
The present study was performed to investigate the effect of plant type recombinant porcine somatotropin (pST) adminstration on growth performance and blood profile of finishing pigs. Forty-eight Landrace barrows weighing 78 kg were employed for six week growth trial. Twelve barrows were allocated into various rpST types ; the control (CONT), the 4:1 type rpST (TRT 1), the 1:1 type rpST (TRT 2); and the 4:1 type rpST group(TRT 3) respectively. CONT group were not planted rpST. TRT 1 group was treated with rpST once a week for 6 weeks. Each dose contained the rpST equivalent to 100mg from initial to two weeks and 125mg from three weeks to finial week. TRT 2 and TRT 3 groups were planted rpST four times contained the rpST equivalent to 100mg during trial period from initial to two weeks, and 125 mg from three weeks, to four weeks, respectively. All pigs were fed a commercial feed containing 0.9% lysine ad lib. Daily gain increased by 19.4% in TRT 1(p<0.05) compared to the CONT. rpST improved feed/gain by 13.4~28.9% in all treatment groups(p<0.05). Back fat thickness of the all rpST treated groups were 23.3~29.2% thinner than that of the CONT. These results indicated that the rpST stimulated growth performance in finishing pigs and plant type rpST could be used as a growth stimulant for finishing pigs.
A comparative study of chemical characteristics, efficacy and relative merits of extruded and coated granules, containing fungicide and insecticide, was conducted under laboratory and field conditions. Probenzole (3-allyloxy-1,2-benzisothiazole 1,1-dioxide) and carbofuran (2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl methyl carbamate) were chosen as toxicants for rice blast(Pyricularia oryzae) and brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) control, respectively. Stability of active ingredients in coated granule was superior to the extruded one under accelerated temperature. Active ingredient dissolution of coated one into distilled water showed slow release pattern. Pesticide residues in rice (Oryzae sativa, Chucheongbyeo) shoot applied with extruded one at the dosage of 3kg/10a retained higher levels than those with coated one on two days after application, while the residue levels were a reversed tendency on eight days after application. Efficacy on rice blast exhibited minute differences between the granules, on the other hand efficacy on brown planthopper by coated one was of higher rank than that by extruded one. Production cost of the combined pesticide granule by coating method could be cut down by 6% as compared to extrusion method.
In this work, carboxymethylcellulose-based composite superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared by electron beam radiation. The composition of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) varied from 4 wt%, 5 wt%, and 6 wt% to 7 wt% based on the amount of distilled water in the syntheses of hydrogels. Graphite oxide, reduced graphene oxide, activated carbon, and bentonite were used as additives for the synthesis of composite superabsorbent. The effect of CMC composition and the type of additives on the gel properties of the prepared hydrogels was investigated. In order to verify the functional groups in the prepared materials, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used. In addition, mechanical strength, gel fraction, swelling kinetics, and equilibrium swelling ratios were measured for the prepared hydrogels. Swelling experiments were carried out in distilled water, urea solution, and physiological saline water. Prepared hydrogels were reused for 5 times, and gel fraction and swelling ratio were measured at every 24 hours. Among the prepared hydrogels, $C_{5%}GO$ and $C_{5%}rGO$ exhibited excellent mechanical property and relatively high swelling ratios for urea solution and physiological saline water with promising applicability as slow-release fertilizers.

DQDB(Distributed Queue Dual Bus) protocol, the IEEE 802.6 standard protocol for metropolitan area networks, does not fully take advantage of the capabilities of dual bus architecture. Although fairness in bandwidth distribution among nodes is improved when using so called the bandwidth balancing mechanism, the protocol requires a considerable amount of time to adjust to changes in the network load. Additionally, the bandwidth balancing mechanism leaves a portion of the available bandwidth unused. In a high-speed backbone network, each node may act as a bridge/ router which connects several LANs as well as hosts. However, Because the existence of high speed LANs becomes commonplace, the congestionmay occur on a node because of the limitation on access rate to the backbone network and on available buffer spaces. to release the congestion, it is desirable to install some congestion control algorithm in the node. In this paper, we propose an efficient congestion control mechanism and fair and waster-free MAC protocol for dual bus network. In this protocol, all the buffers in the network can be shared in such a way that the transmission rate of each node can be set proportional to its load. In other words, a heavily loaded node obtains a larger bandwidth to send the sements so tht the congestion can be avoided while the uncongested nodes slow down their transmission rate and store the incoming segments into thier buffers. this implies that the buffers on the network can be shared dynamically. Simulation results show that the proposed probotol significantly reduces the segment queueing delay of a heavily loaded node and segment loss rate when compared with original DQDB. And it enables an attractive high throughput in the backbone network. Because in the proposed protocol, each node does not send a requet by the segment but send a request one time in the meaning of having segments, the frequency of sending requests is very low in the proposed protocol. so the proposed protocol signigificantly reduces the segment queuing dely. and In the proposed protocol, each node uses bandwidth in proportion to its load. so In case of limitation of available buffer spaces, the proposed protocol reduces segment loss rate of a heavily loaded node. Bandwidth balancing DQDB requires the wastage of bandwidth to be fair bandwidth allocation. But the proposed DQDB MAC protocol enables fair bandwidth without wasting bandwidth by using bandwidth one after another among active nodes.
Long term cultivation crops like tomato, capsicum, melon etc. demand much amount of continuous supplying of nutrition during the whole growing periods. It is not easy to cover satisfactorily the nutritional demands for them by splitted top dressings, slow release fertilizer applications and fertigation systems. To overcome these problems, the "CULTAN" (Controlled Uptake Long Term Ammonium Nutrition) Beaker Deposit techniques have been developed and it was put into PVC beaker with the combined nitrogen fertilizer type mixed with the ratio of one-third of ammonium sulfate-N and two-thirds of urea-N, in which nitrogen was loaded on the demanding amount of a tomato plant during the growing period. Gypsum was mixed as a binder, and loamy soil and compost were used as a diffusion regulator. It was placed upside down into root zone of tomato at the transplanting. Tomato roots were spreaded into the Deposit beaker by ammonium ions which attract root growth. The tomato fruit yield and nitrogen uptake by plant were increased by application of $NH_4$-Beaker deposit fertilizer rather than those of common fertilizer treatment. In conclusion, it was able to improve economic and ecological benefits through CULTAN system compared with common fertilization systems. CULTAN system was estimated as a prospective alternative to enhance productivity and minimize nutrient lose. In addition, it shows further developing possibility of CULTAN system by the supplement of micro-nutrients and pesticides in the macro-nutrient beaker deposits.
A trial product of monogranular compound fertilizer for sesame under vinyle mulching cultivations was manufactured using the principal sources of urea, diammonium phosphate and muriate of potash in combination with a filler of zeolite and a binder of liquid waste from glutamic acid fermentation. Two field experiments using transparent vinyl mulching for single-crop cultivation and black vinyl mulching for cultivation after wheat and barley cropping were carried out to evalute their effects on sesame and the results obtained were as follows. Plant height and stem diameter of the trial product in sesame plant were higher and better than those of NPK split application and NPK all basic application. As the yield of the trial product was higher and similar to the NPK application plots in transparent and black vinyl mulching treatment respectively, the one time basic application of a developed monogranular compound fertilizer for sesame was possible under vinyl mulching cultivation.

This study was performed to establish a production system for in situ and ex situ conservation of Elsholtzia minima Nakai, an endemic plant grown in Jeju Island. Moreover, this study aimed to identify root-growth characteristics according to the use of pre-treatment agents and seedling growth effect according to fertilizer application. The mean temperature was similar in greenhouse and vinyl-moist chamber, but air humidity was higher in vinyl-moist chamber than in greenhouse. After stem planting of Elsholtzia minima Nakai, initial root growth was observed after 10 days in greenhouse and after 7 days in vinyl-moist chamber. Root growth rate was more rapid in vinyl-moist chamber. Moreover, survival rate, root growth rate and root number was slightly higher in vinyl-moist chamber than in greenhouse, indicating that vinyl-moist chamber is more effective in plant growth. When pre-treatment agents were used to remove root growth-inhibiting substances, a higher root growth rate of more than 95% was found in pre-treatment groups, excluding the group treated with AgNO3 at 77.5%. Thus, Elsholtzia minima Nakai is thought to have less root growth inhibitors. In the analysis of nitrogen application rate and Osmocote application by seedling container, a difference was found in survival rate and growth according to application rate and container conditions. When Osmocote, a slow release fertilizer, was applied to the soil surface around each culture container, survival rate and the growth of aerial and root parts were most favorable. Thus, Osmocote fertilizer is thought to be desirable for seedling propagation of Elsholtzia minima Nakai.
Volatiles exist ubiquitously in nature. Volatile compounds produced by plants and microorganisms confer inter-kingdom and intra-kingdom communications. Autoinducer signaling molecules from contact-based chemical communication, such as bacterial quorum sensing, are relayed through short distances. By contrast, biogenic volatiles derived from plant-microbe interactions generate long-distance (>20 cm) alarm signals for sensing harmful microorganisms. In this review, we discuss prior work on volatile compound-mediated diagnosis of plant diseases, and the use of volatile packaging and dispensing approaches for the biological control of fungi, bacteria, and viruses. In this regard, recent developments on technologies to analyze and detect microbial volatile compounds are introduced. Furthermore, we survey the chemical encapsulation, slow-release, and bio-nano techniques for volatile formulation and delivery that are expected to overcome limitations in the application of biogenic volatiles to modern agriculture. Collectively, technological advances in volatile compound detection, packaging, and delivery provide great potential for the implementation of ecologically-sound plant disease management strategies. We hope that this review will help farmers and young scientists understand the nature of microbial volatile compounds, and shift paradigms on disease diagnosis and management to aromatic (volatile-based) agriculture.
