  • In an effort to investigate the germination and growth characteristics of tannin containing forage crops (such as chicory, birdsfoot trefoil, Lotus pedunculatus, sulla, lespedeza, crownvetch, sainfoin), germinativity, seedling vigor, and productivity were studied. Although the cumulative germination percentage (CGP) of chicory and birdsfoot trefoil was low, the germination rate(GR) and days to reach 50% of final germination(Gt50) were excellent. Crownvetch, lespedeza and sainfoin showed poor germination. Chicory seeds were light but the rate of emergence and establishment were high. Seeds of Lotus pedunculatus and birdsfoot trefoil were also small, but their rates of emergence and establishment were quite good. On the other hand, seeds of sainfoin and crownvetch were heavy but their emergence and establishment rate were very low. Lespedeza was the best in getting over the hot summer, and crownvetch also survived well during summer. Chicory was good in productivity and early growing but its persistence was not good. In case of birdsfoot trefoil and Lotus pedunculatus their early growing were slow but their productivity and persistence were fairly well. Lespedeza, crownvetch, and sainfoin showed poor growth in Korea. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that chicory would be better to use as short term high productive forage crop, and Lotus pedunculatus and birdsfoot trefoil could be used as continuous functional forage crops in Korea. • Through time-series BV CCD photometry of the open cluster NGC 225 region, we have detected 30 variable stars including 22 new ones. They are five ${\delta}$ Scuti-type variable stars, a slowly pulsating B star, six eclipsing binary stars and 18 semi-long periodic or slow irregular variables, respectively. We have performed multiple-frequency analysis to determine pulsation frequencies of the ${\delta}$ Scuti-type stars and a slowly pulsating B star, using the discrete Fourier transform and linear least-square fitting methods. We also have derived the periods and amplitudes of 6 eclipsing binaries and a long-period variable star from the phase fitting method, and presented the light curves of all variable stars. A slowly pulsating B star is a member of NGC 225, but ${\delta}$ Scuti-type stars are not members from the positions in the color-magnitude diagram and the radial distancies from the center of the cluster. From Dias et al. (2014, A&A, 564, 79), only three variable stars including the slowly pulsating B star are members of clusters: two are in NGC 225 and one is in Stock 24. But a variable star in Stock 24 is not a member of the cluster because of its position of color-magnitude diagarm.

  • Photoresponsive arylether dendrimers Bis-azo-Gn(3,5) 1a-1c and Bis-azo-Gn(3,4,5) 2a-2c (n = 1-3) with an azobenzene unit at the core and several vinyl groups (3,5-bis(but-3-enyloxy)phenyl groups or 3,4,5-tris(but-3- enyloxy)phenyl groups) at the periphery have been prepared. Their structures and reversible trans-cis isomerization behaviors have been investigated by $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, MALDI-TOF-Mass, and UV-vis spectra. All six azobenzene-cored dendrimers carried out very fast trans $\rightarrow$ cis photoisomerization on irradiation of 350 nm light and reached to the photostationary state within 180 s. During the dark incubation, slow thermal back reversion from cis to trans form is observed for all six dendrimers and is completed within 3 days for 1a-1c and 1 day for 2a-2c. Isomerization efficiency decreases with increasing generation. However, the initial reaction rates of both trans $\rightarrow$ cis photochemical isomerization and cis $\rightarrow$ trans thermal isomerization increases significantly with increasing generation for dendrimers for 1a-1c but only slightly for 2a-2c.

  • This study was performed In evaluate sleep efficiencies and conditions for comfortable sleep based on the analysis of Physiological signals under variations in thermal conditions. Five female subjects who have similar life cycle and sleep patterns were participated for the sleep experiment. It was checked whether they had a good sleep before the night of experiment. EEGs were obtained from C3-A2 and C4-A1 electrode sites and EOGs were acquired from LOC (left outer canthus) and ROC (right outer canthus) for REM sleep detection. Sleep stages were classified, then TST (total sleep time), SWS (slow wave sleep) latency and SWS/TST were calculated for the evaluation of sleep efficiencies on thermal conditions. TST was defined as an amount of time from sleep stage 1 to wakeup. SWS latency was from light off time to sleep stage 3 and percentage of SWS over TST was calculated for the evaluation of sleep quality and comfort sleep under thermal conditions. As result, the condition which raise a room temperature provided comfortable sleep.

  • With the fast growth of Internet and a new widespread interest in optical networks, the unparalleled potential of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is leading to further research and development efforts. One of those areas of research is Path Protection Mechanism. It is widely accepted that layer three protection and recovery mechanisms are too slow for today’s reliability requirements. Failure recovery latencies ranging from several seconds to minutes, for layer three routing protocols, have been widely reported. For this reason, a recovery mechanism at the MPLS layer capable of recovering from failed paths in 10’s of milliseconds has been sought. In light of this, several MPLS based protection mechanisms have been proposed, such as end-to-end path protection and local repair mechanism. Those mechanisms are designed for intra-domain recoveries and little or no attention has been given to the case of non-homogenous independent inter-domains. This paper presents a novel solution for the setup and maintenance of independent protection mechanisms within individual domains and merged at the domain boundaries. This innovative solution offers significant advantages including fast recovery across multiple nonhomogeneous domains and high scalability. Detailed setup and operation procedures are described. Finally, simulation results using OPNET are presented showing recovery times of a few milliseconds.

  • The thermal over-current relay or electronic motor protection relay is mostly used as the open-phase detection device of the three-phase motor or load. When the over-current or overheat of electric line is generated, it detects and operates circuit breaker, but there is the defect that the sensing speed is slow, the operation can be sometimes failed, and the precision is decreased. In order to improve these problems, this paper is proposed a new control circuit topology for open-phase protection using semiconductor devices. Therefore, the proposed open-phase protection device enhances the sensing speed and precision, and has the advantage of simple fitting in the three-phase motor control panel in the field, as it manufactures into small size and light weight.

  • Electrodes were fabricated on a single ZnO nanowire by photolithography process, metal evaporation, and lift-off. The slow photoresponses of the ZnO nanowire under the continuous illumination of 325nm-wavelength light (corresponding to above-bandgap excitation) indicate that the traps related to oxygen vacancy disturb the flow of electron in ZnO nanowire. The photoresponse and PL spectra were measured, and observed that the excitonic band in the PL spectrum was absent in the photoresponse.

  • As part of eco-friendly policies, interest in hydrogen vehicles is growing in the automotive industry to reduce carbon emissions. In particular, it is necessary to investigate the application of aluminum alloy for light weight hydrogen valves among hydrogen supply systems to improve the fuel efficiency of hydrogen vehicles. In this research, we investigated mechanical characteristics of aluminum alloys after hydrogen embrittlement considering the operating environment of hydrogen valves. In this investigation, experiments were conducted with strain rate, applied voltage, and hydrogen embrittlement time as variables that could affect hydrogen embrittlement. As a result, a brittle behavior was depicted when the strain rate was increased. A strain rate of 0.05 mm/min was selected for hydrogen embrittlement research because it had the greatest effect on fracture time. In addition, when the applied voltage and hydrogen embrittlement time were 5 V and 96 hours, respectively, mechanical characteristics presented dramatic decreases due to hydrogen embrittlement.

  • The olfactory anatomy and histology of Lethenteron reissneri were researched using a stereo microscope, a light microscope, and a scanning electron microscope. As in other lampreys, it shows same characters as follows: i) a single olfactory organ, ii) a single tubular nostril, iii) a single olfactory chamber with gourd-like form, iv) a nasal valve, v) a nasopharyngeal pouch, vi) a sensory epithelium (SE) of continuous distribution, vii) a supporting cells with numerous long cilia, viii) an accessory olfactory organ. However, the description of a pseudostratified columnar layer in the SE and Non SE is a first record, not reported in sea lamprey Petromyzon marinus. In particular, both 19 to 20 lamellae in number and olfactory receptor neuron's quarter ciliary length of the knob diameter differ from those of P. marinus. From these results, it might be considered that the olfactory organ of L. reissneri shows well adaptive structure of a primitive fish to slow flowing water with gravel, pebbles, and sand and a hiding habit into sand bottom at daytime. The lamellar number and neuron's ciliary length may be a meaningful taxonomic character for the class Petromyzonida.

  • In this study, we report on a power system developed as a decelerator for a driving module in an electric vehicle. The system is to be mounted in a limited space. The research focus was on development of miniaturization, light weight, and high power density. In particular, we aimed to minimize the layout of existing external components as integrated or built-in, and to maximize the power density by applying optimal cooling technology to increased requirements for developing modular power systems applicable to various OEM models. South Korean automakers ranked fourth in global electric-vehicle sales in 2020, but domestic sales are relatively slow. Despite government's expansion in subsidies for eco-friendly cars, consumers are delaying purchases after 2021 considering the cost-effectiveness of electric vehicles. In major European markets, the demand for electric vehicles exceeded the demand for diesel cars, and sales of hybrid cars, which used to represent eco-friendly cars, are slowing down as Toyota, started selling electric vehicles. In this study, the internal lubrication characteristics of a decelerator installed in an electric vehicle were analyzed in terms of the deceleration time while driving. By selecting the proper oil and oil viscosity, it was confirmed that there is no problem in lubricating the bearings and gears of the decelerator.
