To understand the dynamical structures of stellar wind bubble, one and two-dimensional calculations has been performed. Using FCT Code with cooling effects and assuming constant mass loss rate and ambient medium density, we could divide stellar winds into the regime of slow and fast winds. The slow wind driven bubble shows initially radiative and becomes partially radiative bubble in which shocked stellar wind zone is still adiabatic. In contrast., the fast wind driven bubble shows initially fully adiabatic and becomes adiabatic bubbles with radiative outer shell. We also determine analytically the onset of thin-shell formation time in case of fast wind driven bubble with power-law energy injection and ambient density structure. We solve the line transfer problem with numerical results in order to calculate line profile of [OIII] forbidden line.

This paper presents an integrated analysis about dynamic performance of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT) OC4 DeepCwind with semi-submersible platform under real sea environment. The emphasis of this paper is to investigate how the wave mean drift force and slow-drift wave excitation load (Quadratic transfer function, namely QTF) influence the platform motions, mooring line tension and tower base bending moments. Second order potential theory is being used for computing linear and nonlinear wave effects, including first order wave force, mean drift force and slow-drift excitation loads. Morison model is utilized to account the viscous effect from fluid. This approach considers floating wind turbine as an integrated coupled system. Two time-domain solvers, SIMA (SIMO/RIFLEX/AERODYN) and FAST are being chosen to analyze the global response of the integrated coupled system under small, moderate and severe sea condition. Results show that second order mean drift force and slow-drift force will drift the floater away along wave propagation direction. At the same time, slow-drift force has larger effect than mean drift force. Also tension of the mooring line at fairlead and tower base loads are increased accordingly in all sea conditions under investigation.
The EUV wave is a disturbance that has been believed to be the fast-mode (shock) wave, which can propagate passing through magnetic field lines. After the passage of EUV waves, coronal streamers start to show kink-mode oscillations, and the footpoints, i.e., magnetic separatrices, of the oscillating streamers are observed as the so-called stationary front. We compare the stationary front observed by EUV imagers and coronal streamers observed in coronagraphic images. We analyze the successive events occurred in September 2011. We find that the stationary fronts are consistent with the coronal streamer boundaries, and they are located along the boundaries of coronal holes and active regions. Our results confirm that EUV waves are in fact fast-mode waves and demonstrate that the stationary front is a promising tool to probe into the source of slow solar wind that is the boundary of coronal streamers on the solar surface.
This study presents a mode analysis of 3D turbulent velocity data around a square-section building model to identify the dynamic system for Kármán-type vortex shedding. Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) was first performed to extract the significant 3D modes. Magnitude-squared coherence was then applied to detect the phase consistency between the modes, which were roughly divided into three groups. Group 1 (modes 1-4) depicted the main vortex shedding on the wake of the building, with mode 2 being controlled by the inflow fluctuation. Group 2 exhibited complex wake vortexes and single-sided vortex phenomena, while Group 3 exhibited more complicated phenomena, including flow separation. Subsequently, a third-order polynomial regression model was used to fit the dynamics system of modes 1, 3, and 4, which revealed average trend of the state trajectory. The two limit cycles of the regression model depicted the two rotation directions of Kármán-type vortex. Furthermore, two characteristic periods were identified from the trajectory generated by the regression model, which indicates fast and slow motions of the wake vortex. This study provides valuable insights into 3D mode morphology and dynamics of Kármán-type vortex shedding that helps to improve design and efficiency of structures in turbulent flow.

A wind turbine is controlled for the purpose of obtaining the maximum power below its rated wind speed. Among the methods of obtaining the maximum power, TSR (Tip Speed Ratio) optimal control and P&O (Perturbation and Observation) control are widely used. The P&O control algorithm using the turbine power and rotational speed is simple, but its slow response is a weak point. Whereas TSR control's response is fast, it requires the precise wind speed. A method of measuring or estimating the wind speed is used to obtain a precise value. However, estimation methods are mostly used, because it is difficult to avoid the blade interference when measuring the wind speed near the blades. Neural networks and various numerical methods have been applied for estimating the wind speed, because it involves an inverse problem. However, estimating the wind speed is still a difficult problem, even with these methods. In this paper, a new method is introduced to estimate the wind speed in the wind-power graph by using the turbine power and rotational speed. Matlab/Simulink is used to confirm that the proposed method can estimate the wind speed properly to obtain the maximum power.
As arising the cost and decreasing of gasoline and fossil fuel, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics, wind and fuel cell have been interested. Among of them, PEM fuel cells are good energy sources to provide reliable power at steady state regardless of weather, time of day and location as long as the fuel and air are supplied, but they cannot respond to electrical load transients as fast as desired. This is mainly due to their slow internal electrochemical and thermodynamic responses. Therefore, to use the fuel cells with high efficiency, this paper finds characteristic curve and understand operation of PEMFC based on three theoretical approaches such as activation, ohmic and concentration and make the model using MATLAB. That result was compared with real system to certify.
With the rapid exuberant growth of the forest, the number and size of forest fires and the costs of wildland fires have increased. The flame spread rate of forest fires is depending on the environmental variables like the wind velocity, moisture of grassland, etc. If we know the effects of the environmental variables on the fire growth, it is useful for wildland fiIre suppression. But analysis of the spread rate of wildland fire for these effects have not been established. In this study, the effects of wind velocity and height of grassland fuel have been investigated using the WFDS which is developed at NIST for prediction of the spread of wildland fires. The results showed that the relation between the height of the fuel and the spread rate of the head fires is, and the spread rates related to the wind velocity are predicted 17% less than the experimental results of Australia. When the wind velocity is over 7.5m/s, the concentration of pyrolyzed gas phase fuel is getting low due to fast movement of pyrolyzed gas, the flame spread rate becomes slow.

Storm Storm event is one of major issues in South Korea due to devastating damage at its landfall. A series of statistical study on the historical typhoon records consistently insist that the typhoon translation speed (TS) is on slowdown trend annually, and thus provides an urgent topic in assessing the extreme storm surge under future climate change. Even though TS has been regarded as a principal contributor in storm surge dynamics, only a few studies have considered its impact on the storm surge. The landfall angle (LA), another key physical factor of storm surge also needs to be further investigated along with TS. This study aims to elucidate the interaction mechanism among TS, LA, coastal geometry, and storm surge synthetically by performing a series of simulations on the idealized geometries using Delft3D FM. In the simulation, various typhoons are set up according to different combinations of TS and LA, while their trajectories are assumed to be straight with the constant wind speed and the central pressure. Then, typhoons are subjected to make landfall over a set of idealized geometries that have different depth profiles and layouts (i.e., open coasts or bays). The simulation results show that: (i) For the open coasts, the maximum surge height (MSH) increases with increasing TS. (ii) For the constant bed level, a typhoon normal to the coastline resulted in peak MSH due to the lowest effect of the coastal wave. (iii) For the continental shelf with different widths, the slow-moving typhoon will generate the peak MSH around a small LA as the shelf width becomes narrow. (iv) For the bay, MSH enlarges with the ratio of L/E (the length of main-bay axis /gate size) dropping, while the greatest MSH is at L/E=1. These findings suggest that a fast-moving typhoon perpendicular to the coastline over a broad continental shelf will likely generate the extreme storm surge hazard in the future, as well as the slow-moving typhoon will make an acute landfall over a narrow continental shelf.
In this study, state of sea surface were analyzed comparatively for cases of low atmospheric pressure, which occurred in the middle area of China and moved eastward to the Korean Peninsula across the Yellow sea during April 9-12, 1999, and typhoons 'NEIL' May 1999 and 'OLGA' July 1999, which moved northward along the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. In cases of low pressure, wind speeds and phases were respectively stronger and faster in the center area than in the surrounding areas. The wave heights seem to a somewhat differing tendency from that of the wind speeds due to the influences of geometry. On the other hand, wave heights were lower under typhoon weather than under low pressures, except the instance of wave height over 5 m on Chilbal when typhoon Olga pass northward from the southern area. Storm surges also showed larger amplitudes under low pressures than under typhoons. The results suggest that wave sand storm surges may be larger for a slow passing synoptic low pressures than for a fast passing local typhoon.
A supercapacitor, also called an ultracapacitor or an electrochemical capacitor, stores electrochemical energy by the adsorption/desorption of electrolytic ions or a fast and reversible redox reaction at the electrode surface, which is distinct from the chemical reaction of a battery. A supercapacitor features high specific power, high capacitance, almost infinite cyclability (~ 100,000 cycle), short charging time, good stability, low maintenance cost, and fast frequency response. Supercapacitors have been used in electronic devices to meet the requirements of rapid charging/discharging, such as for memory back-up, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Also, their use is being extended to transportation and large industry applications that require high power/energy density, such as for electric vehicles and power quality systems of smart grids. In power generation using intermittent power sources such as solar and wind, a supercapacitor is configured in the energy storage system together with a battery to compensate for the relatively slow charging/discharging time of the battery, to contribute to extending the lifecycle of the battery, and to improve the system power quality. This article provides a concise overview of the principles, mechanisms, and classification of energy storage of supercapacitors in accordance with the electrode materials. Also, it provides a review of the status of recent research and patent, product, and market trends in supercapacitor technology. There are many challenges to be solved to meet industrial demands such as for high voltage module technologies, high efficiency charging, safety, performance improvement, and competitive prices.
