  • Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is known as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the neurons of the central nervous system. However, its detailed action mechanisms in the rostral gustatory zone of the nucleus tractus solitarius (rNTS) have not been established. The present study was aimed to investigate the distribution, role and action mechanisms of GABA in rNTS. Membrane potentials were recorded by whole cell recordings in isolated brain slices of the rat medulla. Superfusion of GABA resulted in a concentration-dependent reduction in input resistance in the neurons in rNTS. The change in input resistance ws accompanied by response to a depolarizing pulse were diminished by GABA. Superfusion of the slices with either $GABA_A$ agonist, muscimol, $GABA_B$ agonist, baclofen or $GABA_C$ agonist, TACA, decreased input resistance and reduced the nerve activity in association with membrane hyperpolarization. It is suggested that inhibitory signals playa role in sensory processing by the rNTS, in that GABA actions occur through activation of $GABA_A,\;GABA_B\;and\;GABA_C$ receptor. These results suggest that GABA has an inhibitory effect on the rNTS through an activation of $GABA_A,\;GABA_B\;and\;GABA_C$ receptors and that the GABAergic inhibition probably plays an important role in sensory processing by the rNTS.

  • Because lotus root has a short shelf life, the quality easily deteriorates. Thus, the harvested lotus roots are processed into a variety of products. Drying is one of the simplest food preservation methods, which can increase food stability. However, the convective drying method takes a long time and requires high energy consumption. Combination drying methods have emerged to overcome the limitations of the convective drying method. This study investigated the drying characteristics of lotus root and determined the optimal drying model of lotus root depending on the microwave and hot-air combination drying conditions. The lotus root slices (5 mm in thickness and 40 mm in diameter) were dried by different drying conditions that were combined with three microwave power levels (50, 100, and 150 W) and two hot air temperatures (50 and 60℃) at a velocity of 5 m·s-1. Eight drying models were tested to evaluate the fit to the experimental drying data, and the effective moisture diffusion (Deff) values of the lotus root slices dried by combination drying were estimated. The combination drying time of the lotus root was significantly reduced with the high air temperature and microwave power. The effective moisture diffusion (Deff) of lotus root was more affected by the air temperature than microwave power intensity. Logarithmic model was most suitable to describe the drying curve of lotus root in the microwave-hot air combination drying method.

  • Omija (Schizandra chinensis B.) slices were dehydrated with 20, 40, and 60% (w/w) red algae extract (RAE), and 40% of RAE was selected as the proper processing concentration considering the dehydration efficiency and cost of the dehydrating agent. The RAE-treated omija samples were compared with the hot-air dried samples in terms of the qualities such as the rehydration capacity and total phenolic contents. The rehydration ratios of the RAE-treated samples were greater than those of the hot-air dried samples by 31%. The total phenolic contents of the RAE-treated samples (1304.8 mg GAE/100 g) were higher than those of the hot-air dried samples (999.5 mg GAE/100 g). Therefore, omija slices can be dehydrated with RAE without quality loss.

  • Software engineers are used to analyse the error behavior of computer programs using test cases which are collected for the testing phase when software errors are detected. In actual software testing and debugging, it is important to adopt dynamic slicing technique which is concerned on all the statements to be affected by the variables of current inputs and to use technique of its implementations. The traditional dynamic slicing has focused on the single slicing criterion algorithm. It has been thought that it is needed to develope and implement algorithm for used multiple criteria variables program slicing, which finds every slicing criterion variable where it is used multiple criteria variables. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to make dynamic program slices when it has used multiple criteria variables. The results of the implementation are presented by the making table on execution history and the dynamic dependence graph. Also we can find that the proposed dynamic program slicing approach using multiple criteria variables is more efficient than the traditional single case algorithm on the practical testing environment.

  • According to developing wireless communications in vehicle, various security threat in the WAVE(Wireless access in vehicular environments) is increased. To protect this, IEEE 1609.2 specify services as for prevent message from attacks such as spoofing, eavesdropping and replay. It is possible to implement a hardware library for defending these attacks. In this paper, we proposed a efficient AES-CCM architecture for the hardware library in the WAVE. We compare our architecture to the previous one in the same FPGA. And our design uses less slices than 27 % of it and less slices than 45 % of it if we share registers that were used by other modules in the library. We also achieves a throughput of 1355 Gbits/s in xc5vlx110t-2ff1136.

  • The awareness of ritual foods in general rituals were surveyed and compared in the Gyeonggi and Gyungsangbuk-do areas in order to identify the characteristics of Korean rituals and establish desirable ritual foods. As materials for "Jeon" (fried pan cakes) in rituals, fish fillets, meat and vegetables were largely used in the Gyeonggi region. In the Gyeongbuk region, all three of these ingredients were the most highly used for "Jeon" also. In the case of rice cakes, "Songpyun" steamed on a layer of pine needles, "Jeolpyun" and "Sirudduk", with a red beans, were mostly used in Gyeonggi-do, while "Songpyun", "Jeolpyun" and "Ingelmi" were largely used in Gyeongsangbuk-do. As seasoned vegetables and herbs, fernbrakes, root of bell flowers, green bean sprouts and bean sprouts were largely used in Gyeonggi-do region, whereas, fernbrakes, bean sprouts, root of bell flowers and spinaches were mainly used in Gyeongbuk region. The use of fernbrakes was highest in both regions. With regard to the number of side dishes, 2∼3 kinds of seasoned herbs and 3∼4 kinds of fruits were mostly used, but with slightly higher numbers in the Gyeongsangbuk-do than the Gyeonggi-do region. With regard to liquor used for rituals, clear strained rice wine was used most in the Gyeonggi-do area, while more unrefined rice wine was used in the Gyeongbuk region. Meat was the most used ingredient in broth slices of dried meat and cod were highly used in the Gyeonggi region, but slices of dried squid were most widely used in the Gyeongbuk region. Most households in both regions tended not to use raw fish in the rituals, and as for the ingredients of Korean Kabobs, meat was the most widely used, then fish and finally vegetables were the most used ingredients. Beef soup was the most used, but more green vegetable soup was used in the Gyeongbuk than the Gyeonggi region. Sweet drink made from fermented rice (sikhe) was generally used in the rituals. It was the most widely used in the Chusok-Hangawi Ritual in the Gyeonggi region, while it was used in the New Year's Ritual in the Gyeongbuk region.

  • Recent the advanced technologies in medical imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) make doctors improve the diagnostic skill with detailed anatomical information. In general, it is necessary to get a number of MRI images in order to obtain more detail information. However, the performance of MRI machines of privately run hospitals is not good and thus we may obtain only a few of MRI images. If 3D surface reconstruction is accomplished with a few slices, then it generates 3D surface of poor qualify. This paper propose a way to Set a 3D surface of high quality from a few of number of slices. First of all, our algorithm detects the boundary of tissues which we want to reconstruct as a 3D object and find out the set of vortices on the boundary. And then we generate a 3D implicit surface to interpolate the boundary points by using radial basis function. Lastly, we render the 3D implicit surface by using Marching cube algorithms.

  • This study conducted a comparative analysis of differences between cartesian trajectory in a linear rectangular coordinate system and MultiVane trajectory in a nonlinear rectangular coordinate system axial T1 and axial T2 images using an American College of Radiology(ACR) phantom. The phantom was placed at the center of the head coil and the top-to-bottom and left-to-right levels were adjusted by using a level. The experiment was performed according to the Phantom Test Guidance provided by the ACR, and sagittal localizer images were obtained. As shown in Figure 2, slices # 1 and # 11 were scanned after placing them at the center of a $45^{\circ}$ wedge shape, and a total of 11 slices were obtained. According to the evaluation results, the image intensity uniformity(IIU) was 93.34% for the cartesian trajectory, and 93.19% for the MultiVane trajectory, both of which fall under the normal range in the axial T1 image. The IIU for the cartesian trajectory was 0.15% higher than that for the MultiVane trajectory. In axial T2, the IIU was 96.44% for the cartesian trajectory, and 95.97% for the MultiVane trajectory, which fall under the normal range. The IIU for the cartesian trajectory was by 0.47% higher than that for the MultiVane trajectory. As a result, the cartesian technique was superior to the MultiVane technique in terms of the high-contrast spatial resolution, image intensity uniformity, and low-contrast object detectability.

  • Purpose: Naftopidil ((${\pm}$)-1-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl) piperazinyl]-3-(1-naphthyloxy) propan-2-ol) is prescribed in several Asian countries for lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Previous animal experiments showed that intrathecal injection of naftopidil abolished rhythmic bladder contraction in vivo. Naftopidil facilitated spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents in substantia gelatinosa (SG) neurons in spinal cord slices. These results suggest that naftopidil may suppress the micturition reflex at the spinal cord level. However, the effect of naftopidil on evoked excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) in SG neurons remains to be elucidated. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats at 6 to 8 weeks old were used. Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings were made using SG neurons in spinal cord slices isolated from adult rats. Evoked EPSCs were analyzed in $A{\delta}$ or C fibers. Naftopidil or prazosin, an ${\alpha}1$-adrenoceptor blocker, was perfused at $100{\mu}M$ or $10{\mu}M$, respectively. Results: Bath-applied $100{\mu}M$ naftopidil significantly decreased the peak amplitudes of $A{\delta}$ and C fiber-evoked EPSCs to $72.0%{\pm}7.1%$ (n=15) and $70.0%{\pm}5.5%$ (n=20), respectively, in a reversible and reproducible manner. Bath application of $100{\mu}M$ prazosin did not inhibit $A{\delta}$ or C fiber-evoked EPSCs. Conclusions: The present study suggests that a high concentration of naftopidil reduces the amplitude of evoked EPSCs via a mechanism that apparently does not involve ${\alpha}1$-adrenoceptors. Inhibition of evoked EPSCs may also contribute to suppression of the micturition reflex, together with nociceptive stimulation.
