중년 남성의 식생활행동과 혈청 인슐린 및 지질성분과의 관계에 관한 연구 (The relation of the Eating Behavior and fasting serum Insulin and Lipids in Middle-aged Men)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate how obesity and eating behavior are related to the concentration of serum insulin and lipids and blood pressure of middle-aged men The sample for this study utilizes 240 middle-aged men between th4 age of 40 and 60 living in the city of Kumi. Through a process of anthropometry and categorization by relative body weight, the sample is devide into two groups, the obese group (51 men) and the normal group (129 men). The results of the study were as follows : 1111111. The men from the obese group with the exception of height, subs-capular/triceps skinfold girth ratio(STR) had a higher level of body mass index (BMI), waist and hip circumference, waist/hip girth ratio(WHR), subscapular and triceps skinfold thickness than the normal group (P=0.0001). 2. In comparing the serum insulin and lipids between the obese and normal group, the obese group had a higher level of insulin and triglyceride (P=0.016, P=0.050) but a lower concentration of HDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol (P=0.034, P=0.004). Also, the obese group had a higher level of systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P=0.001, P=0.029). When looking at the relationship between the serum insulin and lipids and anthropometric measurements, the relationship between waist/hip girth ratio(THR), the concentration of fasting serum insulin and lipids were stronger than the obesity index, body mass index(BMI). 3. Men who exercised regularly had a lower total cholesterol and systolic blood pressure 9P=0.049, P=0.041), and a higher level of HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol (P=0.004). There was no observable relationship between the food habit score, the preference for fiber foods, and the concentration of serum lipids. Also, the concentration of serum lipids had no apparent effect on the preference for salty, sweet, and greasy foods.

현미로 주원료로 한 생식이 과체중/비만 여성의 비만도와 혈액 성분에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Uncooked Grains and Vegetables with Mainly Brown Rice on Weight Control and Serum Components in Korean Overweight/obese Female)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of weight control and changes in serum components using a commercial uncooked food diet on 36 obese women over a period of 8 weeks. The subjects had uncooked food (40 g) with milk or soymilk twice a day instead of meals. The mean body weight and height measurements of the subjects at the outset were 69.1 $\pm$ 9.3 kg and 159.5 $\pm$ 4.4 cm, respectively. Initial daily calorie intake was 103.6 % of RDA, but was significantly lower at 4 and 8 weeks. The subjects showed a significant reduction in weight, body fat mass (p<0.05), anthropo-metric value and skinfold thickness during the experimental period. Hip and upper thigh girth were 102.7 $\pm$ 6.4 cm and 61.7 $\pm$ 4.3 cm at the outset, and fell to 99.3 $\pm$ 5.0 cm and 58.8 $\pm$ 4.1 cm after 8 weeks. The most significant reduction was in abdomen skinfold thickness (p < 0.05) , which went from 32.4 $\pm$ 8.7 mm at first to 24.2 $\pm$ 8.3 mm in after 8 weeks. Serum albumin levels were higher at 4 and 8 weeks than initially but the figures for all of the subjects were within the normal range. Hemoglobin and blood glucose levels were also within the normal range during the experimental period. Initial serum triglyceride level was 110.5 $\pm$ 49.5 mg/dl but fell to 93.2 $\pm$ 48.5 mg/dl after 8 weeks. Our results show that uncooked foods are effective in the diet therapy of obese women.

임신부의 체위와 체조성 및 임신의 결과 (Anthropometric and Body Compositional Measurements and Pregnancy Outcomes)

  • Anthropometric and body compositional changes and the outcomes of the pregnancies of 90 healthy Korean women were investigated in a longitudinal study. Their weight increased from 51.3$\pm$5.9kg to 65.1$\pm$7.8kg during their pregnancies. The total weight gain was 13.8$\pm$4.5kg, and therefore, weekly weight gain was 340$\pm$110g during the entire period of the pregnancy. The weight gain was composed of approximately 50-60% fat mass and 40-50% fat-free mass. Skinfold thicknesses, both of triceps and subscapular, increased during the pregnancies. The fat mass calculated from skinfold thickness and that measured with bioelectrical impedance analysis went on increasing during the pregnancies. Although there was a considerable difference with respect to the fat mass observed using the three methods, fat mass gain was 5.0-6.1kg and fat-free mass gain was 4.0-5.3kg from the first trimester to the third trimester of pregnancies. There were significant correlations between maternal anthropometric parameters and indices of pregnancy outcomes. Especially, the infant's birth weight was associated with maternal pre-pregnancy weight and weight gains during the pregnancies. The infant's birth length was related to the maternal weight observed at term(p<0.05) and weight gain during the entire pregnancies (p<0.05) . Neither increase of fat mass nor fat-free mass affected the outcomes of pregnancy. These results show that maternal weight gain during pregnancy is led by increments of approximately above 50% fat mass. The fat mass increase seems to be larger in central areas than in subcutaneous areas. Maternal weight gain during pregnancy, especially during late pregnancy, is a factor affecting the birth weight and length of infant. On the basis of the body compositional changes, it can be predicted that the additional energy requirement for pregnancy in Korean women is more than 200-230 MJ (64,500-76,250kca1). 국민학생의 6년간 혈압의 변화양상과 혈압변화와 관련된 요인 분석 (The change in blood pressure and factors affecting the change in blood pressure for Korean children: A six-year follow-up study)

  • For the purposes of analyzing the distribution and the change in blood pressure according to age and determining the factors affecting the change in blood pressure, a follow-up study had been conducted for 6 years from 1986 to 1991 for 430 primary school children aged 6 years old in 1986 in Kangwha County, Korea. The mean blood pressure increased according to age. Specifically mean systolic blood pressure increased from 97.3 mmHg for male and 96.4mmHg for female (at 6 years of age) to 108.8mmHg fur male and 112.1mmHg for female (at 11 years of age). Mean diastolic blood pressure increased from 60.0mmHg for male and 61.8mmHg for female (at 6 years of age) to 72.9mmHg for male and 73.8mmHg for female (at 11 years of age). The average annual increase in blood pressure was 2.3mmHg (in systolic blood pressure) and 2.6 mmHg (in diastolic blood pressure) for male : and 3.1mmHg (in systolic blood pressure) and 2.4mmHg (in diastolic blood pressure) for female, respectively. To determine the factors affecting the change in blood pressure, the stepwise regression analysis was conducted. Children were divided into the three groups(low, middle, and upper) according to the level of systolic and diastolic blood pressure at the age of 6, and the regression analysis was performed in each group. For the change in systolic blood pressure, the changes in weight and skinfold thickness or initial skinfold thickness fer male, and the change in weight for female were selected as significant factors for children in middle and upper group. For the change of blood pressure in diastolic blood pressure, no variables was significant.

Anthropometric Data, Nutrient Intakes and Food Sources in Overweight and Obese Korean Adult Women

  • This study was conducted to investigate the dietary intake, anthropometric data, and association between two factors and main food sources contributing macronutrients for overweight and obese females. Subjects were 85 adult females (overweight : 28, obese 57) where mean age was 38.7y. The results are summarized as follows. Mean fat percent, BMI, obesity rate were 29.3, 23.9 and 15.1%, respectively for overweight women and 32.7, 28.3, 36.4%, respectively for obese women. There were significant differences for most of the anthropometric data between groups. Fat percent for all subjects was significantly correlated with weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, mid arm circumference or skinfold thickness for the triceps, subscapular and suprailiac (p < 0.001). The parameter which showed the highest correlation coefficient (r=0.6156) with fat Percentage was the waist to hip ratio. Any significant differences were not found in dietary intake of nutrients or in diet composition between groups. The mean energy intake was 2090.1kcal (104% of RDA) for overweight women and 2113.0kcal (106% of RDA) for obese women. PFC ratio for overweight was 17 : 24 : 59 and 18 : 23 : 58 for obese subjects, which can be regarded as higher fat and lower carbohydrate percentages compared to recommended PFC ratio (15 20 65) .4) Fat intake was positively correlated (r : 0.2301, p < 0.05) with the triceps skinfold thickness, protein intake was also positively correlated with waist circumference (r=0.2668, p < 0.05) or fat weight(r: 0.2406, p < 0.05) .5) The main food items that contributed to energy intake for overweight or obese subjects were similar (rice, pork, bread, grapes, barley) except com oil in overweight or instant noodle for obese group. The subjects in this study were taking less energy from rice and more energy from pork and bread than women from 98 National Health and Nutrition Survey. Because there were no significant differences of dietary data between overweight and obese group, further investigation considering basal metabolic rate or activity would be needed.

수유방법별 관련요인 및 영아의 성장비교 (The study on related factors of feeding type and comparison of development between breast-fed and formula-fed infants)

  • This study presents results of surveys conducted Seoul and Kangreung public health center using structured questionnaire developed by researchers to identify factors that were relevant to the method of feeding. To compare the infant's development between the breast-fed infants and formula-fed infants, infant's height, weight, triceps skinfold during 1month and 4months were cheked. The results were as follows : 1. At postpartum, 59.1% infants had formula feeding, while 22.6% had breast feeding. At 1 month old, 49.6% infants had formula feeding, 27.8% had breast feeding. At 4 months old, 60.9% infants had formula feeding, while 26.1% had breast feeding. 2. 'Lack of breast milk' was the predominant reason for formula feeding. 3. The sujects didn't enough eat not only rice and seaweed soup but also any other specific foods during breast feeding period. 4. Factors that affected the method of feeding were the patterns of delivery, mother's height & weight, first baby feeding type(at post partum), infant sex, mother's age, preparation of breast feeding, first baby feeding type, regular clinic visit (at 4months old). 5. The birth weight and height were correlated with mother's weight and height. 6. There were no significant different on infant's weight, height, triceps skinfold between breast-fed infants and formula-fed infants.

중년 남녀의 최대 산소 섭취량 (Maximal Oxygen Uptake in middle-aged Men and Women)

  • Maximal oxygen uptake was measured in twenty-eight middle-aged men aged 45.0 (range: 40.3-50.7) years and fourteen middle-aged women aged 40.5 (range: 34.3-47.5) years by means of a treadmill test. The physique of subjects were:mean skinfold thickness at 4 sites, namely, back, arm, waist and abdomen was 7.59 mm in men and 14.5 mm in women; total body fat estimated from the mean skinfold thickness, 11.9% fat in men and 25.5% fat in women. The detailed observations are as follows: 1. Maximal oxygen uptake expressed on any reference unit in men was greater than that of women. The values of men to women were: 2.61 to 1.92l/min., 45.1 to 37.0 ml/min./kg, 51.8 to 46.5 ml/min./kg lean body mass (LBM), 15.7 to 12.6 ml/min./cm body height. 2. Maximal pulmonary ventilation in men was 80.2 l/min. and 63.5 l/min. in women. 3. There was a correlation of fairly high degree between maximal oxygen uptake and body weight, namely, r=0.56 in men and r=0.79 in women. The correlation between maximal oxygen uptake and lean body mass also was fairly high, namely, r=0.58 in men and r=0.69 in women. 4. The correlation between maximal pulmonary ventilation and body weight or lean body mass was r=0.51 and r=0.25 in middle-aged men and r=0.41 and r=0.19 in middle-aged women, respectively. 5. Maximal heart rate in men was 176.4 beat/min. and it was 183.9 beat/min. in women. 6. Maximal oxygen pulse in men was 14.6 ml/beat and 9.5 ml/beat in women. 7. Aerobic work capacity of korean middle-aged men and women maintained the same level as that of young men and women, respectively, as shown by maximal oxygen uptake expressed ml/min./kg or ml/min./kg lean body mass.

The Prevalence of Obsersity and Nutritional Status in Adult Women Who Exercise Regularly

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among prevalence of obesity, nutritional status and factors related to obesity of women who exercise regularly. The subjects of this study were 100 women who have been exercising regularly for more than 6 months. They were mostly housewives ages 24 to 63 years and had graduated middle or high school. Their average income was form 700 to 1,500 thousand won per month and most of them had 2 r 3 children. They sleep usually 6~8 hours a day. Most of physical indices of obesity were increased progressively with age. Among them , weight (61.5$\pm$1.4kg), subscapular (16.3$\pm$1.4mm) and abdomen(31.4$\pm$1.2mm) skinfold thickness were higher in 50 years than in others. BMI after exericse was decreased compared with BMI before exericise. WHR was 0.82 in 40 years and 0.85$\pm$0.01 in 50- to 60- year-old group. The percentage of body fat increased with advancing years and the highest values were shown in 50 - to 60-year old group (skyndex value : 38.6$\pm$0.6, BIA value : 28.7$\pm$0.8<0.05). The prevalence of obesity was measured by bioelectrical impedance fatness analyzer (BIA), obdy mass index (BMI) and skinfold thickness were 17.0%, 24.0% and 78.0% respectively. Most subjects were in good nutritional status, but in the subjects aged 24~49, energy (89.3%), iron (93.3%) and vit. A (97.4%) intake were slighltyl lower than the RDA. Energy intake was slightly insufficient tot he 50-63year old subjects (88.6%) compared with RDA. It seemed that they restricted calorie intake for the weight control. The energy percentage of carbohydrate, fat and protein was 65 : 20 : 15, the result of which came closed to the recommended calorei composition. There were positive correlations between obesity and other variable such as age. number of childeren and physical indics.

Effect of xylo-oligosaccharides on reproduction, lipid metabolism, and adipokines of hens during the late egg-laying period

  • Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) administration on egg production, reproductive hormones, serum lipids and adipokines of hens at the late cycle of reproduction. Methods: Four treatments included control (basal diet) and XOS addition at 2.0 (XOS-2), 4.0 (XOS-4), or 6.0 (XOS-6) g/kg of diet using 288 commercial Hy-Line brown hens from 73 to 84 wk of age. Egg production, body fat deposition, reproductive tract and hormones, lipid metabolism and adipokines were determined. Results: At 84 wk, compared to the control, XOS supplementation at the three doses increased (p<0.001) egg-laying rates by 13.2% averagely, which led to a higher egg mass by 131 g/hen throughout the whole trial period. Abdominal fat and skinfold of XOS treatments were decreased (p<0.001) by 26.1% and 18.6%, respectively; large follicles and ovary weight were increased (p<0.001) by 0.73 follicle/hen and 18.6%, respectively. For serum parameters, cholesterol and triglyceride were decreased (p<0.001) by 17.5% and 29.2%, respectively; luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and progesterone were increased (p≤0.001) by 16%, 31%, 29%, respectively; adiponectin and visfatin were increased (p<0.001) by 34% and 44%, respectively; but chemerin and leptin were decreased (p≤0.001) by 22% and 14%, respectively. With the increased XOS doses, linear decreases (p<0.05) were found on abdominal skinfold and serum triglyceride. Conclusion: The obtained data indicate that XOS can be used as an additive to improve fecundity by beneficially modulating fat deposition, lipid metabolism, reproductive hormones, and adipokines of hens at the late cycle of reproduction.

PHV 척도를 기준한 피하지방후, 근과 골 변인의 사춘기 발육분출에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Adolescent Growth Spurt of Skinfold, Muscle and Bone Variables Aligned on Peak Height Velocity in Boys and Girls)

  • 인간의 신체적 발육에 있어서 현저한 변화를 보이며, 다른 연령기에 비해 신체교육의 가능성이 크다고 인식되는 아동기와 사춘기 남 녀를 대상으로 생리학적 연령의 PHV 척도를 기준한 피하지방후, 근과 골 변인의 사춘기 발육분출 변화 양상을 분석 평가 하였다. 신장의 PHV 출현은 남자의 경우 $13{\sim}14$세 사이 이며, 여자는 2년 빠른 $11{\sim}12$세 사이인 것으로 나타났다. 체지방의 4개부위에 대한 피하지방후합은 남자의 경우 PHV 출현 -2년에 $8.9mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로, 여자는 PHV 출현 +2년에 $11.3mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 PV에 각각 도달 하였으며, 남 녀 모두 사춘기발육분출 에서 증감의 변동이 많은 양상을 나타내었다. 상완골폭에 있어서 남자의 경우 PHV 출현 -3년과 +2년에 $0.6cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$$0.5cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 2번의 PV에 도달하는 bi-modal 현상을 보였고, 여자는 PHV 출현 -1년에 $0.3cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 PV에 도달하였다. 대퇴골폭에 있어서 남자는 PHV 출현과 동일시점에 $0.4cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로, 여자는 PHV 출현 -2년에 $0.4cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 각각 PV에 도달하였다. 근육의 상완이두근 최대위에 있어서 남자는 PHV 출현 +2년에 $2.6cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$, 여자는 PHV 출현 +1년에 $1.0cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 PV에 각각 도달 하였고, 하퇴위에 있어서 남자는 PHV 출현 +2년에 $1.9cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$, 여자는 PHV 출현과 동일한 시점에 $1.6cm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$로 PV에 도달 하였다. 전체적으로 보아 PHV 척도를 기준으로한 피하지방후 발육의 경우, 남자는 PHV 출현 이전, 여자는 PHV 출현이후, 골의 발육은 남 녀 모두 PHV 출현 이전, 근육의 발육은 남 녀 모두 PHV출현 이후 PV에 각각 도달하는 양상을 보였다.
