Surrogate Model Based Approximate Optimization of Passive Type Deck Support Frame for Offshore Plant Float-over Installation

  • The paper deals with comparative study of various surrogate models based approximate optimization in the structural design of the passive type deck support frame under design load conditions. The passive type deck support frame was devised to facilitate both transportation and installation of 20,000 ton class topside. Structural analysis was performed using the finite element method to evaluate the strength performance of the passive type deck support frame in its initial design stage. In the structural analysis, the strength performances were evaluated for various design load conditions. The optimum design problem based on surrogate model was formulated such that thickness sizing variables of main structure members were determined by minimizing the weight of the passive type deck support frame subject to the strength performance constraints. The surrogate models used in the approximate optimization were response surface method, Kriging model, and Chebyshev orthogonal polynomials. In the context of numerical performances, the solution results from approximate optimization were compared to actual non-approximate optimization. The response surface method among the surrogate models used in the approximate optimization showed the most appropriate optimum design results for the structure design of the passive type deck support frame.

  • Our paper focus on crosstalk noise problem, especially crosstalk glitch that occurs when victim is stable state and aggressor is transitive state. This generated glitch weigh with the functional reliability if the glitch is considerable. In this paper, we use buffer insertion, down sizing, buffer insertion with up-sizing methods concurrently. These methodologies use filtering effects which gates that have bigger noise margin than glitch width eliminates glitch. In addition, we do limited optimization in boundary of node's slack. Therefore, the operated node's changes are for nothing in other node's slack.

  • An abrupt high pollution loads in combined sewer systems is believed to be caused by first flushing actions and the resuspension of sediments deposited in sewers. Therefore, pollution loads in each flow regulator have a different tendency. This systems control intercepting flow in each flow regulator using water quality and water level. A desired quantity of intercepting flow was adjusted and the necessary slide position for a constant intercepting is calculated by Optimization programming. This systems make it possible to reduce pollution loads caused by CSOs to water body, may be alternative for the stable operation of STP through improving water quality to STP.

  • In this study, We reviewed the solution methods (for the heuristic and optimization method) for the single-item dynamic lot-sizing problem, and improved the efficiency (speed and optimality) of the conventional heuristic method by utilizing the inventory decomposition property. The iventory decomposition property decomposes the given original problem into several independent subproblems without violating the optimality conditions. Then we solve each decomposed subproblems by using the conventional heuristics such as LTC, LUC, Silver-Meal etc. For testing the efficiency of the proposed decomposition method, we adopted the data sets given in Kaimann, Berry and Silver-Meal. The computational results show that the suggested problem solving framework results in some promising effects on the computation time and the degree of optimality.

  • In an environment of global competition, the success of a manufacturing corporation is directly related to how it plans and executes production in particular as well as to the optimization level of its process in general. This paper proposes a production planning algorithm for the Multi-Level, multi-item Capacitated Lot Sizing Problem (MLCLSP) in supply chain network considering back-order. MLCLSP corresponds to a mixed integer programming (MIP) problem and is NP-hard. Therefore, this paper proposes an effective algorithm, GRHS (GRASP-based Rolling Horizon Search) that solves this problem within reasonable computational time and evaluates its performance under a variety of problem scenarios.

  • A two-step method is presented for the optimum design of trusses with available sections under stress and Euler buckling constraints. The shape design of the truss is used as a means to convert the discrete solution into a continuous one. In the first step of the method, a continuous solution is obtained by sizing and shape design using an approximate polynomial expression for the buckling coefficients. In the second step, the member sizes obtained are changed to the nearest available sections and the truss is reconfigured by using the exact values for the buckling coefficients. The optimizer used is based on the sequential quadratic programming and the gradients are evaluated in closed form. The method is illustrated by two numerical examples.

  • This study dealt with the design process of the 78 kW permanent magnet synchronous generator for engines. After the calculation of the basic dimensions through a theoretical method in the process of initial model design, FEA (finite-element analysis) and a d,q-axis equivalent circuit were used to identify the generator characteristics depending on the number of poles. With the use of the space harmonic analysis method, the back-EMF (electromotive force) and THD were checked, and then the number of slots was determined. In addition, the most optimized generator dimensions were determined through a sizing optimization technique. Based on this, the optimum model with enhanced efficiency, material costs, and temperature characteristics was derived, and the availability of the design method was confirmed through a comparative analysis of the initial and optimum models.

  • The paper proposes the fuzzy logic global approximate optimization strategies in optimal sizing of automotive A-pillar trim with rib structures for occupant head protection. Two different strategies referred to as evolutionary fuzzy modeling (EFM) and neuro-fuzzy modeling (NFM) are implemented in the context of global approximate optimization. EFM and NFM are based on soft computing paradigms utilizing fuzzy systems, neural networks and evolutionary computing techniques. Such approximation methods may have their promising characteristics in a case where the inherent nonlinearity in analysis model should be accommodated over the entire design space and the training data is not sufficiently provided. The objective of structural design is to determine the dimensions of rib in A-pillar, minimizing the equivalent head injury criterion HIC(d). The paper describes the head-form modeling and head impact simulation using LS-DYNA3D, and the approximation procedures including fuzzy rule generation, membership function selection and inference process for EFM and NFM, and subsequently presents their generalization capabilities in terms of number of fuzzy rules and training data.

A Heuristic for Service-Parts Lot-Sizing with Disassembly Option (분해옵션 포함 서비스부품 로트사이징 휴리스틱)

  • Due to increasing awareness on the treatment of end-of-use/life products, disassembly has been a fast-growing research area of interest for many researchers over recent decades. This paper introduces a novel lot-sizing problem that has not been studied in the literature, which is the service-parts lot-sizing with disassembly option. The disassembly option implies that the demands of service parts can be fulfilled by newly manufactured parts, but also by disassembled parts. The disassembled parts are the ones recovered after the disassembly of end-of-use/life products. The objective of the considered problem is to maximize the total profit, i.e., the revenue of selling the service parts minus the total cost of the fixed setup, production, disassembly, inventory holding, and disposal over a planning horizon. This paper proves that the single-period version of the considered problem is NP-hard and suggests a heuristic by combining a simulated annealing algorithm and a linear-programming relaxation. Computational experiment results show that the heuristic generates near-optimal solutions within reasonable computation time, which implies that the heuristic is a viable optimization tool for the service parts inventory management. In addition, sensitivity analyses indicate that deciding an appropriate price of disassembled parts and an appropriate collection amount of EOLs are very important for sustainable service parts systems.

  • In this paper, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is adopted to design a modified ring-slot type patch rectenna with a resonance frequency of 2.45GHz. In order to accomplish minimization of dimensions and circular polarization (CP) and harmonic suppression, axial direction slits and side-cuts are added to the patch of the ring. The PSO manipulated this kind of multi-dimensional problem very well, and as a result, the designed rectenna shows a desirable performance of return loss of 21.36dB and axial ratio of 2.92dB at the frequency of 2.45GHz with compact sizing.
