In this paper, we implement a lossless compression technique for time-series data generated by IoT (Internet of Things) devices to reduce the disk spaces. The proposed compression technique reduces the size of the encoded data by selectively applying CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) or Delta encoding depending on the situation in the Forecasting algorithm that performs prediction on time series data. In addition, the proposed technique sequentially performs zigzag encoding, splitting, and bit packing to increase the compression ratio. We showed that the proposed compression method has a compression ratio of up to 1.60 for the original data.

The environment-friendly abrasive materials of starch series has a wide range of application value such as deburring of plastic injection products, paint exfoliation and surface treatment of painted products and polishing, etc. In this study, an experiment of paint exfoliation was performed by using the environment-friendly abrasive materials made of cheap starch, and its performance was reviewed. By adjusting the grit size of abrasive materials, nozzle pressure, nozzle feed and number of nozzle repetition, paint could be exfoliated effectively. In this experiment, it was found that the most suitable condition was grit size 0.75~1.0 mm, nozzle pressure 0.4 MPa, nozzle feed 5 mm/min and number of processing repetition 2 times.

The size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete in notched specimens was experimentally investigated. Based on the concept of the fracture mechanics and size effect law, theoretical studies for axial compressive failure of concrete were reviewed, and two failure modes of concrete specimen under compression were discussed. In this study, experiment of axial compressive failure, which is one of the two failure modes, was carried out by using double cantilever fracture specimens. By varying the slenderness of cantilevers and the eccentricity of applied loads with respect to the axis of each cantilever, the size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated, and predicted by Bazant's size effect law. The test results show that size effect appears conspicuously for all series of specimens. For the eccentricity of loads, the influence of tensile and compressive stress at the notch tip are significant and so that the size effect is varied. In other words, if the influence of tensile stress at the notch tip grows up, the size effect of concrete increases. And the fact that the fracture process zone must be sufficiently secured for more accurate experiment was affirmed.
Chip size distribution can be used to evaluate the cutting efficiency and to characterize the cutting behavior of rock during cutting and fragmentation process. In this study, a series of linear cutting tests was performed to investigate the effect of cutting conditions (specifically cut spacing and penetration depth) on the production and size distribution of rock chips. Linyi sandstone from China was used in the linear cutting tests. After each run of linear cutting machine test, the rock chips were collected and their size distribution was analyzed using a sieving test and image processing. Image processing can rapidly and cost-effectively provide useful information of size distribution. Rosin-Rammer distribution pamameters, the coarseness index and the coefficients of uniformity and curvature were determined by image processing for different cutting conditions. The size of the rock chips was greatest at the optimum cut spacing, and the size distribution parameters were highly correlated with cutter forces and specific energy.
The size effect on axial compressive strength in notched concrete specimens was experimentally investigated. Based on the concept of the fracture mechanics and size effect law, theoretical studies for axial compressive failure of concrete were reviewed, and two failure modes of concrete specimens under compression were discussed. In this study, experiments of axial compressive failure, which is one of the two failure modes, was carried out by using cylindrical specimens. Adequate notch length was taken from the experimental result of strength variation based on the notch length. And, by taking various sizes of specimens the size effect on axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated. Also, model equations were suggested by modified size effect law (MSEL). The test results show that size effect appears conspicuously for all series of specimens. Additionally, the effect of initial notch length on axial compressive strength was also apparent.
Numerous tests on concrete structure members under local pressure demonstrated that the compressive strength of concrete at the loaded surface is increased by the confinement effect provided by the enveloping concrete. Even though most design codes propose specific criteria for preventing bearing failure, they do not take into consideration size effect which is an important phenomenon in the fracture mechanics of concrete/reinforced concrete. In this paper, six series of square prism concrete blocks with three different depths (size range = 1:4) and two different height/depth ratios of 2 and 3 are tested under concentrated load. Ultimate loads obtained from the test results are analysed by means of the modified size effect law (MSEL). Then, a prediction formula, which considers effect of both depth and height on size effect, is proposed. The developed formula is compared with experimental data existing in the literature. It is concluded that the observed size effect is in good agreement with the MSEL.

This study investigates the spalling properties of high strength concrete designed with various types of mineral admixture and diverse content ratios of polypropylene (PP) fiber. Experimental factors considered in series I are four pozzolan types of mineral admixture and series II consists of three shrinkage reducing types of mineral admixture. PP fiber was added 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15vol. % in each mixture of series I and series II, so that totally 27 specimens including control concretes in each series were prepared. Test results showed that the increase of fiber content decreased the slump flow of fresh concrete and increased or decreased the air content depending on the declining ratio of slump flow. For the properties of compressive strength, all specimens were indicated at around 50 MPa, which is high strength range; especially all specimens in series II were 60 MPa. Fire test was conducted in standard heating curve of ISO 834 with ${\phi}100{\times}200\;mm$ size of cylinder moulds for 1 hour. The specimens incorporating silica fume exhibited severe spalling and most specimens without the silica fume could be protected from the spalling occurrence in only 0.05vol % of PP fiber content. This fire test results demonstrated that the spalling occurrence in high strength concrete was not only affected by concrete strength related to the porosity of microstructure but also, even more influenced by micro pore structure induced by the mineral admixtures.

The existing analytical expression for the voltage between the power and ground plane consist of metal-dielectric-metal board is expressed in the two dimensional infinite series. To reduce the computation time, the two dimensional infinite series is converted to the one dimensional infinite series using the summation formula of Fourier series. We applied these equations to the analysis of voltage between the $9‘{\times}4'$ size power-ground plane. The derived one dimensional infinite series shows the more rapid convergency and the more accurate result than the two dimensional infinite series. This equation can be applied to the power-ground plane analysis which needs a lot of the repeating computation.

A structural break in the level as well as in the innovation variance has often been exhibited in economic time series. In this paper we propose robust unit root tests based on a sign-type test statistic when a time series has a shift in its level and the corresponding volatility. The proposed tests are robust to a wide class of partially stationary processes with heavy-tailed errors, and have an exact binomial null distribution. Our tests are not affected by the size or location of the break. We set the structural break under the null and the alternative hypotheses to relieve a possible vagueness in interpreting test results in empirical work. The null hypothesis implies a unit root process with level shifts and the alternative connotes a stationary process with level shifts. The Monte Carlo simulation shows that our tests have stable size than the OLSE based tests.
In this paper the results of an experimental program devoted to the assessment of the cyclic behaviour of full scale, European type, beam-column subassemblages with welded connections are presented. Six tests (five cyclic and one monotonic) have been carried out on three different series of specimens, encompassing a total of eighteen tests. The three specimen series have been designed with the aim of defining the effect of the column size on the connection behaviour, under different applied loading histories. The tests have evidenced the effect of the column size and panel zone design and of the applied loading history on the cyclic behaviour and failure modes of the connections.
