  • A real-time monitoring of immersed antenna type inductively coupled plasma (ICP) was done with a homemade 2 dimensional voltage probe array to check the uniformity of the plasma. Measured voltage values with a high impedance voltmeter are close to the floating potential of the plasma. As the substrate carrier was moving into a magnetron sputtering plasma diffusive from a $125mm{\times}625mm$ size cathode, measured results showed reliably separation of plasma into the upper and lower empty space over the carrier. Infra red thermal imaging camera was used to observe the cross corner effect in situ without eroding a target to the end of the usage. 3 dimensional particle trace model was used to analyze the magnetron discharge's behavior.

  • In many combustion systems, swirling combustion air is extensively applied as an aid for stabilization of high intensity combustion pocesses. Swirl, generally, causes significant effects on the flow field which, in turn, determines the size, shape, and stability of flames, and combustion intensity. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of swirls on flames produced from a model combustor designed in this paper. In order to impart swirls to the combustion air, a movable block swirl generator was used. Temperature distribution and radiative heat flux along the centerline of the swirling flame were measured. Data obtained from these swirl flows can be used as design data for high intensity or high efficiency combustion systems. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Flame temperature profiles were measured at various swirl number. 2. The axial distance for maximum temperature from the centerline of burner increased as the swirl number increased. 3. Radiative heat flux increased as the swirl number and axial distance from burner increased.

  • We performed a numerical simulation based on the two-dimensional (2-D) unsteady Euler's equation with a single-step Arrhenius reaction model in order to investigate the detonation wave front propagation of an Argon (Ar) diluted oxy-hydrogen mixture ($2H_2+O_2+12Ar$). This simulation operates in the detonation frame of reference. We examine the effect of grid size and the performance impact of integrated quantities such as mass flow. For a given set of baseline conditions, the minimal and maximum grid resolutions required to simulate the respective detonation waves and the detonation cell structures are determined. Tertiary shock wave behavior for various grids and pre-exponential factors are analyzed. We found that particle fluctuation can be weakened by controlling the mass flow going through the oblique shock waves.

  • A manufacturing environment without a computerized system causes numerous problems, since many important decisions are made based on the experience of veteran staffs. Especially, when a strategy for the improvement of manufacturing efficiency is considered, it is hard to predict the effect of the strategy. A solution to the problem without large investment of the computerized system is the simulation study. This paper shows the modeling and simulation based on DEVS(Discrete Event System Specification). Two types of models are implemented, one for representing the current production strategy and the other for the new strategy. The new strategy is expressed as priority rules within the model. The process in concern is the metal grating production process in which the size of the group, for applying a specific cutting and scheduling strategies, is one of the important factors in improving the production efficiency. Some reliable criteria for the evaluation related to the production effeciency are established from the simulation study.

  • This paper examines user's loyalty to social network sites (SNS) from switching costs (SC) incurred by both technology and social factors. We propose a research model specifying that the perceived values of resources of the factors affect the SC and the SC determine user's loyalty. Empirical results show that technology variables of ease of use and privacy controllability, and social variables such as network size, usefulness of SNS activities, and awareness of network status have significant effect on SC. In particular, ease of use is negatively associated with SC. Since it is shown that in overall the impact of social factors is stronger than that of technology factors, we can interpret that technological superiority itself does not lead to the success of SNS. Contributions of this paper are: 1) application of SC in SNS research from the resource based perspective, which can be used for developing strategies of sustainable SNS, and 2) provision of different perspective toward the variable of ease of use, which has been considered an important factor of technology acceptance.

  • In this study, nonlinear analyses of prestressed concrete(PSC) test beams for inservice inspection of prestressed concrete containments for CANDU nuclear power plants are presented. In the analysis the material nonlinearities of concrete, rebar and prestressing steel are used. To reduce the numerical instability with respect to the used finite element mesh size, the tension stiffening effect has been considered. For concrete, the tensile stress-strain relationship derived from tests is modified and the stress-strain curve of rebar is assumed as a simple bilinear model. The stress-strain curve of prestressing steel is applied as a multilineal curve with the first straight line up to 0.8fpu. To prove the validity of the applied material models, the behavior and strength of the PSC test specimens tested to failure have been evaluated. A reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the predictions is obtained. Parametric studies on the tension stiffening effects, the impact of prestressing losses with time, and the compressive strength of concrete have been conducted.

  • Despite the increasing pervasiveness of electronic commerce, very little empirical research has been done to examine its use in organizational contexts. Based on theories from the technological innovation literature, we developed an integrated model of electronic commerce initiation, adoption and implementation in Korea. We selected a random sample of 500 Korean leading companies. A questionnaire survey examined factors in initiation, adoption, and implementation of electronic commerce. Independent variables of this research were environment uncertainty, organizational characteristics(namely, organizational size, centralization, and formalization), and information system maturity. The resultant study sample included 62 firms across the industries. The empirical tests of the hypotheses were performed. According to our findings, environmental uncertainty, centralization, formalization, and information system maturity have a significant effect on the electronic commerce initiation, adoption and implementation.

  • The relation between the ion irradiation induced grain growth and the basic parameters sinvolved in ion beam mixing process was studied. TEM micrographs showed that a significant grain growth has been induced by Ar+ irradiation at room temperature. The grain size increases rapidly in low dose region, while it approaches a saturated value in high dose region, and it has close relationship with nuclear energy deposition and thermodynamic properties such as cohesive energy ( Hc) and heat of mixing ( Hm). A model for the grain growth based on the thermal spike induced atomic migration was developed and applied to interpret experimental results.

  • In recent, displays have very good properties at high luminance, fast response, and size. Also They have good quality in terms of color according to the development of the gamut extension and color reproduction. However, despite these merits, there is a characteristic that at a high luminance display, observer perceive the different color from the originally re-producted color due to the change of perceived luminance in human visual system. In this paper, we propose a model that is the hue shift phenomenon between a normal display and a high luminance display, and then an algorithm which compensate the color between two devices, so that observer can perceive the same color.

  • In the mechanism of beam shear failure, beam action and arch action always exist simultaneously. According to a/d ratio, the proportion and contribution between these two actions to shear capacity are merely changed. Moreover, the current codes recommendations are founded on the experimental results with normal strength concrete, the applicable range of $f'_{c}$ must be extended. Based on this mechanism and new requirement, an analytical equation is proposed for shear capacity prediction of reinforced concrete beams without stirrups. To reflect contribution change of two actions, stress variation in longitudinal reinforcement along the span is considered with Jenq and Shah Model. Dowel action and shear friction are also taken into account. Size effect is included to derive more precise equation. It is shown that the proposed equation is more accurate than other empirical equations and codes. So, it can be possible that wide range of a/d ratio is considered by one equation.
