  • The effect of reaction conditions on the size and size distribution of superparamagnetic iron oxide coated with siloxane was big investigated by using dynamic light scattering. The hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl groups on tile surface of the magnetite and silanol was confirmed by FT-IR. The size of nanoparticles increased with the reaction temperature, but decreased with monomer contents and agitation speeds. There was not a big difference in size of nanoparticles, prepared by different reaction conditions, but its distribution was in the range of 14∼41nm. All samples exhibited the superparamagnetic nature. The magnetic susceptibility of the nanoparticles increased with the reaction temperature while it decreased with the monomer content and agitation speed.

  • The effect of salt milling process on the crystal size, morphology, and color characteristics of C.I. Pigment Red 57:1 was studied. The primitive morphology and color properties of the pigment after synthesis were studied in the former series work. The size and morphology of primary particles and the second aggregation features should be considered because they are very important to determine pigment quality. We compared the primary morphology of pigment particles before drying with the secondary aggregated morphology of pigment particles after drying and salt milling process. Morphological properties were investigated by particle size analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy and color measurement was carried out. Significant reduction in particle size as well as enhanced crystallite size after salt milling process was observed. This result might give a difference in color of the pigment, turning into brighter and more blue-toned red color. It was revealed that synthesis condition affect the morphology and color of the pigment even after milling. Increase in HCl concentration in the synthesis process enhanced crystal size and quality forming bluer-red pigments but an increase in $CaCl_2$ concentration resulted in more amorphous crystals forming darker-red pigments after salt milling.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of voxel size on the accuracy of landmark identification in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: CBCT images were obtained from 15 dry human skulls with two different voxel sizes; 0.39 mm and 0.10 mm. Three midline landmarks and eight bilateral landmarks were identified by 5 examiners and were recorded as three-dimensional coordinates. In order to compare the accuracy of landmark identification between large and small voxel size images, the difference between best estimate (average value of 5 examiners' measurements) and each examiner's value were calculated and compared between the two images. Result: Landmark identification errors showed a high variability according to the landmarks in case of large voxel size images. The small voxel size images showed small errors in all landmarks. The landmark identification errors were smaller for all landmarks in the small voxel size images than in the large voxel size images. Conclusion: The results of the present study indicate that landmark identification errors could be reduced by using smaller voxel size scan in CBCT images.

  • Since the MgB2 superconductor is simply composed of two constituents of Mg and B, its performance can be monitored easily with the change of one ingredient compared to the other. With the powder size of B less than 100 nm, two different sizes of Mg powders are used to investigate the reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 bulk samples. In the range of 630-700℃ for the duration of 30 min., the un-reacted Mg is seen only at 630℃ with Mg powder size of <5 ㎛, whereas Mg traces are detected at all the temperature range with Mg powder size of <45 ㎛. The reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 superconducting transition temperature, Tc, shows little difference whether Mg powder size is large or small in this range except for the 630℃. It is worthy of notice that the critical current densities of MgB2 show higher performance with the small size of Mg compared to the large one at all field ranges. With the Mg powder size of <45 ㎛, flux pinning is enhanced with decreasing the reaction temperature, whereas flux pinning properties is quite similar in the Mg powder size of <5 ㎛ except for the 630℃, where Mg is left behind after the reaction.

  • Special attention is required for the design of windows due to their high thermal vulnerability. This paper examines the problems that might arise in the application of the u-value, by reflecting the changes in the u-value of the window, depending on the window-to-wall ratio obtained in an energy demand analysis. Research indicates that the u-value of a window increases with an increase in the difference between the u-values of the frames and the glass. Relative to the changes in the u-value of the windows, the energy demand varied from 1.3% to 9.3%. Windows with a g-value of 0.3 or 0.5 displayed a higher energy demand than windows with a g-value of 0.7. Therefore, when the difference between the performance of the glass and the frame is significant, especially when the g-value is small, a modified heat transmission coefficient should be applied to the window size during the evaluation of the building energy demand.

  • The purpose of this study were to examine the characteristics of arm types proposed in the previous study and to present sleeve patterns according size and shape of 4 arm types. 31 direct and indirect items were measured. The subjects for this study were 132 females of twenties. The results were as follows. 1. All of the direct measurements showed significant difference by the arm types. especially at the front armhole part. Such a.: the items of arm gradients, armhole sizes belong to the indirect measurements made clear difference also. 2. By the discriminant analysis, 9 items including underarm length, front armhole girth, upper arm girth, degree of elbow point-wrist point discriminated arm type by the hit ratio of 90.4% Item related to shape of arm rather than size made a sharp distinction. 3. Through the examination of existing patterns and wearing tests on the subjects among 4 groups, sleeve patterns classified by the arm type were suggested.

  • The photosensitive properties and spectroscopic characteristics in the organic photoconductor(OPC) with carrier generation layer(CGL) of poly(vinylbutyral)(PVB) and polycarbonate(PC) doped with titanyl phthalocyanine(TiOPc) were investigated. The change of crystal structure of TiOPc dispersed with PVB and PC was shown by UV-visible reflective spectrum and FT-IR spectrum and mainly caused by the difference of solubility of solvent and the interaction between TiOPc and binder. The particle size of TiOPc dispersed with PVB measured by SEM was smaller than in PC. The crystal structure of TiOPc dispersed with PVB was amorphous type and in PC was $\alpha$type. It was found that the photosensitive properties of OPC were dependent on the change of absorbance and ionization potential of TiOPc occurred from the difference of crystal structure. In this work, the photosensitivity of OPC of TiOPc dispersed with PVB was better than PC due to the crystal type and the smaller particle size.

  • All people think that their apparence which may be evaluated by someone is a very important thing. Especially, this trend is more important to women. The objective of this study is to compare and analyze the data of ideal and real body size which are obtained from female university students. Also, in order to find the difference of view of point between men and women, some data are obtained from male university students. The data are collected by the five typical parts on body such as height, weight, circumferences of chest, waist, and buttock. the samples for this study are randomly chosen from the universities in Seoul and Kangnung during three months (1999. 9~1999. 11). According to many researches, there is a strong relationship between cloth and appearance. The result of this study will play an important role not only for clothing psychology but also clothing marketing.

  • The difference of two independent binomial proportions is frequently of interest in biomedical research. The interval estimation may be an important tool for the inferential problem. Many confidence intervals have been proposed. They can be classified into the class of exact confidence intervals or the class of approximate confidence intervals. Ore may prefer exact confidence interval s in that they guarantee the minimum coverage probability greater than the nominal confidence level. However, someone, for example Agresti and Coull (1998) claims that "approximation is better than exact." It seems that when sample size is large, the approximate interval is more preferable to the exact interval. However, the choice is not clear when sample, size is small. In this note, an exact confidence and an approximate confidence interval, which were recommended by Santner et al. (2007) and Lee (2006b), respectively, are compared in terms of the coverage probability and the expected length.

  • My questionaire survey revealed that even those experts that engage in architectural design did not precisely understand much of the regulations concerning ground-level. In terms of restricting the size of the building area, the generous policy of excluding balconies and basements from the calculation of building size actually causes problems. As far as the right to sunshine is concerned, the weighted average ground-level is determined to be the ground-level standard of the neighboring plot when the neighboring plot is a sloping bare ground. When the difference of heights is over 3 meters, it would be appropriate to assess the weighted ground-level standard every 3 meters.
