Application of In Situ Measurement for Site Remediation and Final Status Survey of Decommissioning KRR Site

  • Background: In situ gamma spectrometry has been used to measure environmental radiation, assumptions are usually made about the depth distribution of the radionuclides of interest in the soil. The main limitation of in situ gamma spectrometry lies in determining the depth distribution of radionuclides. The objective of this study is to develop a method for subsurface characterization by in situ measurement. Materials and Methods: The peak to valley method based on the ratio of counting rate between the photoelectric peak and Compton region was applied to identify the depth distribution. The peak to valley method could be applied to establish the relation between the spectrally derived coefficients (Q) with relaxation mass per unit area (${\beta}$) for various depth distribution in soil. The in situ measurement results were verified by MCNP simulation and calculated correlation equation. In order to compare the depth distributions and contamination levels in decommissioning KRR site, in situ measurement and sampling results were compared. Results and Discussion: The in situ measurement results and MCNP simulation results show a good correlation for laboratory measurement. The simulation relationship between Q and source burial for the source layers have exponential relationship for a variety depth distributions. We applied the peak to valley method to contaminated decommissioning KRR site to determine a depth distribution and initial activity without sampling. The observed results has a good correlation, relative error between in situ measurement with sampling result is around 7% for depth distribution and 4% for initial activity. Conclusion: In this study, the vertical activity distribution and initial activity of $^{137}Cs$ could be identifying directly through in situ measurement. Therefore, the peak to valley method demonstrated good potential for assessment of the residual radioactivity for site remediation in decommissioning and contaminated site.

  • In this paper, we derived 7 reliability measurement factors for effective web site construction through literature research and empirically measured reliability of the web site using "Xenu" and "Yslow" which are reliability measurement tools. We selected and tested total 12 domestic and foreign web sites. As a result of measuring those 12 web sites, the reliability level was varied in a number of aspects according to 7 measurement factors, and we suggested alternatives based on those 7 factors in order to build the effective web site.

Two-Site Optical Observation and Initial Orbit Determination for Geostationary Earth Orbit Satellites

  • Optical observation system provides angle-only measurement for orbit determination of space object. Range measurement can be directly acquired using laser ranging or tone ranging system. Initial orbit determination (IOD) by using angle- only data set shows discrepancy according to the measurement time interval. To solve this problem, range measurement data should be added for IOD. In this study, two-site optical observation was used to derive the range information. We have observed nine geostationary earth orbit satellites by using two-site optical observation system. The determination result of the range shows the accuracy over 99.5% compared to the results from the satellite tool kit simulation. And we confirmed that the orbit determination by the Herrick-Gibbs method with the range information obtained from the two-site observation is more accurate than the orbit determination by Gauss method with the one-site observation. For more accurate two-site optical observation, a baseline should satisfy an optimal condition of length and more precise observation system needed.

  • After underground excavation being introduced in dometic, many technologies have been storing up. One of them, measurement, has been recognized as an important item under excavation construction. But, unlike a large-scale construction, it was not been treated importantly at the general small-scale structures with poor ordering and original design was unchanged under construction was normal if the problem didn't occur on monitoring. In this paper, the site which safe and economical management as well as shortening construction period was made effectively using measurement result was introduced. Also, the site which was completed safely with analyzing measurement and reinforcement when unusual symptom happened was introduced. Using measurement result effectively will be able to obtain the safety and prevent unnecessary economical loss.

  • Now, there are many cases where materials are maintained at construction sites or standard construction prices are not in accordance with the applicable regulations, resulting in a lot of fine dust. Therefore, a particulate matter measurement system is applied not only to manage particulate matter at construction sites but also to reduce particulate matter .This study aims to evaluate the applicability of this particulate matter measurement system to the construction site through long-term measurement experiments using a light scattering method particulate matter measurement instrument at the construction site.

Study about the Applicable Plan of GIS on Range of Magnetic Field Emitted from 60 Hz Powerline (60Hz 고압 송전선로의 자기장 발생범위에 대한 GIS 적용 방안에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the applicable plan of GIS on the environmental impact assessment of 60 Hz Powerline. So we assessed distance data based on calculations by use of 2D and 3D Geographical information systems(GIS) and distance data based on measurements on 1: 5000 maps accord with on site distance measurements to use input data for calculating magnetic field. One hundred eight of the on site measured addresses were selected from residences. The data were achieved by measuring the distance between residence and power line on maps with scales of 1: 5000. The digital map was obtained from National Geographic Information Institute with scales of 1: 5000, and we made 2D and 3D map. Correlation analyses were performed for statistical analyses. For the 3D GIS versus on site comparison of different exposure categories, 70 of 108 measurements were assigned to the correct category. Similarly for 2D GIS versus on site comparison, 71 of 108 were correctly categorized. When comparing map measurement with on site measurement, 62 of 108 were correctly categorized. When the correlation analysis was performed, best correlation was found between 3D GIS and on site measurements with r = 0.84947 (p<0.0001). The correlation between map and on site measurement yielded an r of 0.76517 (p<0.0001). Since the GIS measurements and map measurement were made from the center point in the building and the on site measurements had to be made from the closest wall on the building, this might introduce and additional error in urban areas. The difference between 2D and 3D calculations were resulted from the height of buildings.

  • In this paper the theoretical analysis of the site attenuation was made on the concept of mutual impedance of antennas and the cause of characteristic hump in the site attenuation curve below 80 MHz is explained. The deviation between the FCC site attenuatios and the experimental results of an ideal open area test site at low frequencies(below 80MHz) was found to be the mutual coupling effects of the antennas under the FCC's measurement conditions. It seems desirable that the site attenuations curve of FCC document be revicused to the theoretical curves presented in this paper is long as the FCC's measurement conditions are to the applied.

  • Measurement is used to improve software process and to help calculating software quality. It makes software project to be control and help producing software. Measuring software scale becomes important target in software development. LOC is used to measure the size intentioned aspect and function point is used to measure the function intentioned aspect. This paper discusses measurement method using function point, which fullows proposed rule, and degree of GUI (Graphical User Interface) accesses achieved by applying this measurement to web page. Applying proposed rules to web pages (specially that use much GUI such as shopping mall or auction site), there is advantage that calculate site changes on numerical value by measuring GUI degree when do site administration or update.

  • In this paper, we have developed a system for monitoring and processing the real time sensor data in remote site through Internet. For realizing this system, measurement equipment and protocol are used to transmit the measurement data to remote server and to process measurement data. In server part, the received data from remote site sensor is converted to text or graphic charts for user. The measurement device in sensor part receives the sensor data form sensor and store the received data to its internal memory for transmitting data to server part through Internet. Also the measurement device can receive data form server. The temperature sensor is corrected to the measurement device located in laboratory and the measurement device measures temperature of laboratory which can be confirmed by user through Internet. We have developed a server program working on the Linux to store measurement data from measurement device to server memory. The program is use for SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) to exchange data with measurement device. Also the program changes the measurement data into text and graphic charts for user display. The program is use apache PHP program for user display and inquiry. The real time temperature measurement system can be applly for many parts of industry and living.
