The structural analysis of liquid rocket engine was performed in the case of sinusoidal vibration load to verify structural safety. The finite element model is composed with main liquid rocket engine components, combustion chamber, turbopump, gas-generator, pyro-starter, main pipes, main valve, heat-exchanger, gimbal-mount and brackets. Natural vibration mode analysis and structural analysis for sinusoidal vibration load were performed. The natural mode frequency of liquid rocket engine is twice than that of launch vehicle. In the case of stress result of sinusoidal vibration load, the part of maximum stress has 1.4 margin, so the engine structure is safe for sinusoidal vibration load.
A numerical study of transient conjugate heat transfer on micro heater in a micro-channel substrate under a sinusoidal heat load was conducted. It was found that the time constant is not affected by the maximum heating magnitude of the sinusoidal heat load. However, the time constant increases with low duration of the sinusoidal heating period and low Reynolds number. Moreover, there is a threshold where a heater temperature do not reach to time constant at low thermal diffusivity, low flow rate, and low pulse duration of the sinusoidal heating. The time constant should be considered for transient convective heat transfer under transient sinusoidal heat load in a micro heat sink.

Since the Gyeongju earthquake in 2016 and the Pohang earthquake in 2017, the performance of various dynamic tests for seismic design has increased in Korea. However, sinusoidal load has been continuously used in the conventional laboratory tests to evaluate liquefaction potential and determine input-parameters in the numerical analysis. However, recent research results suggest that it is difficult to accurately simulate excess pore water changes of the ground under earthquake loads. In order to solve this problem, this study proposes a combined sinusoidal loading and examines its applicability to the cyclic shear and triaxial test. Also, its validity is examined through performing of shaking-table test and numerical analysis based on the effective stress model. As a result, it was found that the proposed combined sinusoidal loading can more accurately simulate the change of excess pore water pressure in saturated soils under real earthquake load than the sinusoidal load.

The dynamic instability for snapping phenomena has been studied by many researches. There is few paper which deal with the dynamic buckling under the load with periodic characteristics, and the behavior under periodic excitation is expected the different behavior against STEP excitation. We investigate the fundamental mechanisms of the dynamic instability when the sinusoidal shaped arch structures subjected to sinusoidal distributed excitation with pin-ends. In this study, the dynamic direct snapping of shallow arches is investigated under not only STEP load excitation but also sinusoidal harmonic excitations, applied in the up-and-down direction. The dynamic nonlinear responses are obtained by the numerical integration of the geometrically nonlinear equations of motion, and examined by the Fourier spectral analysis in order to get the frequency-dependent characteristics of the dynamic instability for various load levels.
In this research, the analysis of post-buckling behavior of tapered columns has been performed under a combined load of uniformly distributed axial load along the length and concentric axial load at free end by solving the nonlinear differential equation with the differential transformation technique. The buckling load at various slopes at free end of column is calculated and the results of the analysis using the differential transformation technique is verified with those of previous studies. It is also shown through the results that the buckling load of sinusoidal tapered columns is largest, the linear is second largest, and the parabolic is small in the all ranges of slopes at free end and the deflection of parabolic tapered columns in the x coordinates is largest, the sinusoidal is second largest, and the linear is smallest in the range of slope 0 to 140 degrees at free end. However, when the range of the slope is 160 to 176 degrees at the free end, the deflection of sinusoidal tapered columns in the x coordinates is largest, the linear is second largest, and the parabolic is smallest. In addition, for the linear tapered column, the buckling load increases along with the flexural stiffness ratio. Also, for the parabolic and the sinusoidal tapered column, the buckling loads increase and decrease as the flexural ratios increase in the range of flexural stiffness ratio n = 1.0 to n = 2.0. Through this research, it is verified that the differential transformation technique can be applied to solve the nonlinear differential equation problems, such as analysis of post-buckling behavior of tapered columns. It is also expected that the differential transformation technique apply to various more complicated problems in future.

This study is an experimental comparison on the fact that the sinusoidal load, which has been used so far in the laboratory cyclic test, which is an important part of the liquefaction triggering study, is somewhat different from the phenomenon that causes the soil liquefaction during the earthquake loading. To this end, this study proposes a new type of combined sinusoidal load and compares it with experimental results to load the conventional sine wave. In the comparison, the shaking table tests were carried out and the sample in the tests was remolded with the relative density of 40%, which is a condition where liquefaction is easy to occur. Firstly, the conventional cyclic test was carried out under the condition that with the amplitude of sine wave was 0.3 g. Additionally, 3 types of tests were performed using the combination loads made up with 0.03 g sinusoidal load and 0.3g sinusoidal load. At that time, the loading time for the first sinusoidal load were changed with 5 seconds, 10 seconds, and 15 seconds. As a result, the test with the conventional sine wave and the test with the first sinusoidal loading for 5 seconds showed that the change of the pore water pressure gradually increased. But in the tests with the combined sinusoidal load which changed the first sinusoidal loading time with 10 and 15 seconds, it was found that the pore water pressure suddenly rose at a certain instant and liquefaction occurs. From the experimental comparison, it is judged that it is appropriate that the time of the first sine wave is over 10 seconds at the proposed combined load for the soil condition with relative density 40%.
In the hogging bending moment area, continuous composite beams are subjected to the ultimate limit state of lateral-torsional buckling (LTB), which depends on web stiffness as well as concrete slab and shear connection stiffnesses. The design of the LTB and the determination of the elastic critical moment are produced approximately, using the European Standard EN 1994-1-1:2004, for continuous composite steel beams, but is applicable only for those with a plane web steel profile. Also, and from the previous researches, the elastic critical moment of the continuous composite beams with corrugated sinusoidal web steel profiles was determined. In this paper, a finite element analysis (FEA) model was developed using the ANSYS 16 software, to determine the elastic critical moments of continuous composite steel beams with various corrugated web profiles, such as trapezoidal, zigzag, and rectangular profiles, which were evaluated against numerical data of the sinusoidal one from the literature. Ultimately, the failure load of a composite steel beam with various web profiles was predicted by studying 46 models, based on FEA modeling, and a procedure for predicting the elastic critical moment of composite beams with various web steel profiles was proposed. When compared to sinusoidal web profiles, the trapezoidal, zigzag, and rectangular web profiles required an average increase in load capacity and stiffness of 7%, 17.5%, and 28%, respectively, according to the finite element analysis. Also, the rectangular web steel profile has a greater stiffness and load capacity. In contrast, the sinusoidal web has lower values for these characteristics.

The governing equation for a dome-type shallow spatial truss subjected to a transverse load is expressed in the form of the Duffing equation, and it can be derived by considering geometrical non-linearity. When this model under constant load exceeds the critical level, unstable behavior is appeared. This phenomenon changes sensitively as the number of free-nodes increases or depends on the imperfection of the system. When the load is a periodic function, more complex behavior and low critical levels can be expected. Thus, the dynamic unstable behavior and the change in the critical point of the 3-free-nodes space truss system were analyzed in this work. The 4-th order Runge-Kutta method was used in the system analysis, while the change in the frequency domain was analyzed through FFT. The sinusoidal wave and the beating wave were utilized as the periodic load function. This unstable situation was observed by the case when all nodes had same load vector as well as by the case that the load vector had slight difference. The results showed the critical buckling level of the periodic load was lower than that of the constant load. The value is greatly influenced by the period of the load, while a lower critical point was observed when it was closer to the natural frequency in the case of a linear system. The beating wave, which is attributed to the interference of the two frequencies, exhibits slightly more behavior than the sinusoidal wave. And the changing of critical level could be observed even with slight changes in the load vector.
After the model open-ended pile attached with strain gages was driven into a pressure chamber, in which the saturated microfine sand was contained, the static compression loading test was performed for that pile. Based on the test results, ultimate pile capacity was determined. Then, either simulated earthquake shaking or sinusoidal shaking was applied to the pile with the sustained certain level OP ultimate pile load. Then, pile capacity degradations characteristics during shaking were studied. Pile capacity degradation during two different shakings were greatly different. During the simulated earthquake shaking, capacity degradation depended upon the magnitude of applied load. When the load applied to the pile top was less than 70% of ultimate pile capacidy, pile capacity degradation rate was less than 8%, and pile with the sustained ultimate pile load had the degradation rate of 90%. Also, most of pile capacity degradation was reduced in outer skin friction and degradation rate was about 80% of ultimate pile capacity reduction. During sinusoidal shaking, pile capacity degradation did not depend on the magnitude of applied load. It depended on the amplitude and the frequency , the larger the amplitude and the fewer the frequency was, the higher the degradation rate was. Reduction pattern of unit soil plugging (once depended on the mode of shaking. Unit soil plugging force by the simulated earthquake shaking was reduced in the bottom 3.0 D, of the toe irrespective of the applied load, while reduction of unit soil plugging force by sinusoidal shaking was occurred in the bottom 1.0-3.0D, of the toe. Also, the soil plugging force was reduced more than that during simulated earthquake shaking and degradation rate of the pile capacity depended on the magnitude of the applied load.

We investigate the fundamental mechanisms of the dynamic instability when the sinusoidal shaped arch structures subjected to sinusoidal harmonic excitation with pin-ends. In nonlinear dynamics, examining the characteristics of attractor on the phase plane and investigating the dynamic buckling process are very important thing for understanding why unstable phenomena are sensitively originated by various initial conditions. In this study, the direct and the indirect snap-buckling of shallow arches considering geometrical nonlinearity are investigated numerically and compared with the step excitation critical load.
