To confirm the genetic identification and phylogenetic relationships of unidentified 6 baleen whales by-caught from 2002 to 2016, a partial sequence of approximately 500 base pair (bp) of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region was analyzed and compared to published sequence from Genbank. Our results indicated that the two individuals among 6 specimens are clustered with Omura's whale clade through phylogenetic analysis, which had only a single haplotype. Omura's whale was reclassified as a new species in 2003 and they had not been previously reported in Korean waters. This study firstly revealed existence of Omura's whale in Korean waters by molecular analysis based on mtDNA control region.

The dual generalized order statistics is a unified model which contains the well known decreasingly ordered random variables like order statistics and lower record values. With this definition we give simple expressions for single and product moments of dual generalized order statistics from Dagum distribution. The results for order statistics and lower records are deduced from the relations derived and some computational works are also carried out. Further, a characterizing result of this distribution on using the conditional moment of the dual generalized order statistics is discussed. These recurrence relations enable computation of the means, variances and covariances of all order statistics for all sample sizes in a simple and efficient manner. By using these relations, we tabulate the means, variances, skewness and kurtosis of order statistics and record values of the Dagum distribution.

We describe Ophichthus asakusae from Korea based on a single specimen (426.0 mm TL) collected from the southern sea off Jeju Island. The species is characterized by a pointed, hard, sponge-like tail tip without a caudal fin and 126-132 total vertebrae. We propose a new Korean name, "Je-ju-ba-da-baem" for the species.

A single specimen of Kentrocapros flavofasciatus (measuring 145.9 mm in length) belonging to the family Aracanidae, order Tetraodontiformes, was collected for the first time in 2017 on Jeju Island, Korea. This specimen had isolated bony plates on a caudal peduncle, a carapace with six ridges, and a tail depth equal to its tail length. It is similar to K. aculeatus and K. rosapinto but differs from K. aculeatus in that its carapace is without spines; it differs from K. rosapinto in that the anterior end of its gill opening does not reach below the center of its eye. We propose new Korean names: Yug-gak-bok-gwa for the family Aracanidae, and Hwang-Jul-yug-gak-bok for the species K. flavofasciatus.

The Cymatium Roding, 1798 is a small- to large-sized marine gastropod genus. Three species has been reported thus far for Cymatium in the Korean waters. In general, Cymatium encausticum (Reeve, 1844) is known to occur in tropical seawaters including the Philippine Islands along with its congeners C. gutturnium, C. springsteeni, and C. exile. A single individual of the species was collected from Jejudo Island by SCUBA diving and morphological features were observed using a stereomicroscope. This is the first study to report the occurrence of Cymatium encausticum (Reeve, 1844) from the Korean waters, providing a detailed description of the species with the illustration for the shell morphology.

쏨뱅이목 도치과에 속하는 Cyclopteropsis bergi 1개체(체장 63.9 mm)가 2011년 5월 속초에서 처음 채집되었다. C. bergi는 제1등지느러미 끝부분만 보이며, 골질돌기는 몸에만 산재해 있고 머리에는 없다. Cyclopteropsis bergi의 새로운 국명으로 "꼬마도치"를 제안한다.

This is the first report of Fowlerichthys scriptissimus (Lophiiformes, Antennariidae) from Korea. A single specimen (291.0 mm SL) was collected off the coast of Jejudo Island by gill net on 28 March 2012 and identified with morphological and molecular approaches. The specimen is characterized by having all five pelvic fin rays bifurcate and possessing 20 vertebrae, 13 pectoral-fin rays, and a basidorsal ocellus on the side of the body. This species is distinguishable from other Korean taxa by the number of pectoral fin rays, the bifurcate form of the pelvic rays, and the vertebral count. We add this species to the Korean fish fauna and suggest new Korean names, "Byeol-ssin-beng-i-sok" and "Byeol-ssin-beng-i" for the genus and species, respectively.

In this paper, we derive recurrence relations for moments of lower generalized order statistics within a class of doubly truncated distributions. Inverse Weibull, exponentiated Weibull, power function, exponentiated Pareto, exponentiated gamma, generalized exponential, exponentiated log-logistic, generalized inverse Weibull, extended type I generalized logistic, logistic and Gumble distributions are given as illustrative examples. Further, recurrence relations for moments of order statistics and lower record values are obtained as special cases of the lower generalized order statistics, also two theorems for characterizing the general form of distribution based on single moments of lower generalized order statistics are given.

A single juvenile malacanthid specimen (Hoplolatilus chlupatyi) was collected from the South Sea of Korea and identified by DNA barcoding. This species is readily distinguished from other malacanthid species in having well developed rostral spine and elongated spines in the posttemporal and preopercle. A molecular analysis based on mitochondrial DNA COI sequences showed that this species is matched to adult H. chlupatyi (genetic distance = 0.005). Therefore, this is the first record of H. chlupatyi in Korea. We propose new Korean names, "Mu-ji-gae-og-dom-sog" for the genus Hoplolatilus and "Mu-ji-gae-og-dom" for the species H. chlupatyi.

A single specimen of Brama orcini (267.0 mm standard length, SL), belonging to the family Bramidae, was collected by purse seine from Jeju Strait, Korea, in December 2013. The specimen is characterized by having 16 gill rakers, 54 lateral line scales, and 36 vertebrae. B. orcini is distinguished from the most similar species, Brama japonica, by the number of lateral line scales (52-54 in B. orcini vs. 65-75 in B. japonica). We propose a new Korean name "Keun-bi-neul-sae-da-rae" for B. orcini.
