  • This experiment was carried our in order to study effect of alum sludge compost of water treat-ment plant on the growth of Korean lawngrass (zoysia japonica Steud.) and on the change of soil chemical properties. Alum sludge compost was made out of chicken feces, sawdust and alum sludge. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Alum sludge compost was appropriate for organic fertilizer of turfgrass management in golf course. 2.Application of alum sludge compost improved the chemical properties of soil such as pH, available phosphorous and exchangeable calcium. Also the growth of Korean lawngrass grown by the mixed application of alum and compost was more effective than that in single application of compost. 3.Chlorophyll content of Korean lawngrass had no differences in several treatments. 4. Alum promoted the uptake of potassium, calcium and the yield of dry weight hut the yield of dry weight was not affected by chemical fertilizer. 5.Alumimum toxicity was decreased by the mixed application of alum and compost but increased by single application of alum.

  • Dracocephalum rupestre Hance is a perennial herb distributed across China, Mongolia, and Korea. This study reports the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of D. rupestre. The plastome is 151,230 bp long and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure comprising a large single-copy region of 82,536 bp, a small single-copy region of 17,408 bp, and a pair of identical inverted repeat regions of 25,643 bp each. It contains 130 genes, comprising 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis of D. rupestre and related species of Lamiaceae showed that the genus Dracocephalum is a monophyletic group, and D. rupestre is most closely related to D. psammophilum.

  • Rhododendron caucasicum Pall. is a shrub distributed in the mountainous areas of the Caucasus from northeastern Türkiye towards the Caspian Sea. This study reports the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of R. caucasicum. The plastome is 199,487 base pairs (bp) long and exhibits a typical quadripartite structure comprising a large single-copy region of 107,645 bp, a small single-copy region of 2,598 bp, and a pair of identical inverted repeat regions of 44,622 bp each. It contains 143 genes, comprising 93 protein-coding genes, 42 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The large chloroplast genome size is likely due to the expansion of inverted repeats. A phylogenetic analysis of chloroplast genomes with other Rhododendron species supports previously recognized infrageneric relationship.

  • In this paper, an adaptive observer based upon the exponentially weighted least-square method is implemented in the design of a model reference adaptive controller for an unknown time-invariant discrete single-input single-output linear plant. The adaptive observer estimates the padrameter vectors and initial state vector. The control input is determined so that the output of the plant converges to the output of the stable model reference.

  • Polygonatum falcatum is a perennial herb distributed in East Asia. We determined the characteristics of the complete chloroplast genome in P. falcatum for the first time, with a de novo assembly strategy. The chloroplast genome was 154,579bp in length harboring 87 protein coding genes, 38 tRNA genes and eight rRNA genes. It exhibits typical quadripartite structure comprising a large single-copy (LSC) (83,528bp), a small single-copy (SSC) (18,457bp) and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) (26,297bp). Phylogenetic analysis of 16 chloroplast genomes from Asparagaceae reveals that the genus Polygonatum is a monophyletic group and that P. falcatum is clustered together with the congener, P. odoratum.

  • Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clemants which belongs to Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae sensu in APG system has been known as a useful plant in various fields as well as an invasive species spreading all over the world. To understand its phylogenetic relationship with neighbour species, we completed chloroplast genome of D. ambrosioides collected in Korea. Its length is 151,689 bp consisting of four sub-regions: 83,421 bp of large single copy (LSC) and 18,062 bp of small single copy (SSC) regions are separated by 25,103 bp of inverted repeat (IR) regions. 128 genes (84 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs, and 36 tRNAs) were annotated. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome is 36.9% and those in the LSC, SSC and IR regions are 34.9%, 30.3%, and 42.7%, respectively. Distribution of simple sequence repeats are similar to those of the other two Dysphania chloroplasts; however, different features can be utilized for population genetics. Nucleotide diversity of Dysphania chloroplast genomes 18 genes including two ribosomal RNAs contains high nucleotide diversity peaks, which may be genus or species-specific manner. Phylogenetic tree presents that D. ambrosioides occupied a basal position in genus Dysphania and phylogenetic relation of tribe level is presented clearly with complete chloroplast genomes.

  • This paper describes a modelling method for SCR(selective catalystic reduction) system in refuse incineration plant. We consider the SCR system as a single input and single output system. For modelling the SCR system, an auto regressive exogeneous(ARX) modelling method is used. In this case, we should design the white noise input for modelling and put it on the system as an input$(NH_3)$, and take an outlet NOx as an output. From these two relations, we design the ARX model with 45 second delay time and transform to a discrete system with sampling time of 0.5 second. Using the obtained SCR model, we verify that the outlet NOx is deeply related with stoker`s moving in boiler of refuse incineration plant.

  • Peanut is an allotetraploid derived from a single recent polyploidization. Polyploidization has been reported to have caused significant loss in genetic diversity during the domestication of cultivated peanuts. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based markers such as cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) derived from next-generation sequencing (NGS) have been developed and widely applied for breeding and genetic research in peanuts. This study aimed to identify the genetic diversity and population structure using 30 CAPS markers and 96 peanut accessions from five different origins. High genetic dissimilarities were detected between the accessions from Korea and those from the other three South American origins generally regarded as the origin of peanuts, while the accessions from Brazil and Argentina presented the lowest genetic dissimilarity. Based on the results of the present study, accessions from Korea have unique genetic variation compared to those from other countries, while accessions from the other four origins are closely related. Our study identified the genetic differentiation in 96 peanut accessions from five different origins, and this study also showed the successful application of SNP information derived from re-sequencing based on NGS technology.

  • Genome duplication(i.e. polyploidy) is a common phenomenon in the evolution of plants. The objective of this study was to achieve a comprehensive understanding of genome duplication for SNP discovery by Thymine/Adenine(TA) cloning for confirmation. Primer pairs were designed from 793 EST contigs expressed in the roots of a supernodulating soybean mutant and screened between 'Pureunkong' and 'Jinpumkong 2' by direct sequencing. Almost 27% of the primer sets were failed to obtain sequence data due to multiple bands on agarose gel or poor quality sequence data from a single band. TA cloning was able to identify duplicate genes and the paralogous sequences were coincident with the nonspecific peaks in direct sequencing. Our study confirmed that heterogeneous products by the co-amplification of a gene family member were the main cause of obtaining multiple bands or poor quality sequence data in direct sequencing. Counts of amplified bands on agarose gel and peaks of sequencing trace suggested that almost 27% of nonrepetitive soybean sequences were present in as many as four copies with an average of 2.33 duplications per segment. Copy numbers would be underestimated because of the presence of long intron between primer binding sites or mutation on priming site. Also, the copy numbers were not accurately estimated due to deletion or tandem duplication in the entire soybean genome.
