유전율 이방성이 음인 액정을 이용한 FFS 모드의 단일 갭형 반투과형 액정 디스플레이 연구 (Study on single gap transflective fringe-fields switching liquid crystal display using the liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy)

  • A transflective liquid crystal displays associated with fringe field switching (FFS) mode of new concept is proposed. The device utilizes unique characteristic of the FFS mode in which the rotation angle of LC director is strongly dependent on electrode position in on state. We use the liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. Also we are look for optimized electrode size and the optimization of pixel electrode width and distance between them, the LC director could rotate about $22.5^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ depending on electrode positions. Consequently, we get high transmittance and high reflection on the optimized electrode condition. Respectively, a high image quality transflective display with single gap and single gamma characteristics realized.

단일 영상 초해상도 기술의 복잡도 감소를 위한 픽셀 단위 생략 방법 (A pixel-wise skip method to reduce complexity of single image super resolution)

  • 본 논문에서는 초고해상도 기술의 복잡도를 줄이기 위하여 픽셀단위 생략 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 픽셀 단위로 수평, 수직 방향의 밝기에 대한 2 차 미분치에 기반하여 생략을 결정한다. 제안하는 방법의 성능 평가를 위하여 가장 간단한 초고해상도 알고리즘인 SRCNN 과 제안하는 방법의 PSNR 비교한다. 그 결과 제안하는 방법이 평균적으로 약 47%의 픽셀이 생략이 되면서 SRCNN 대비 0.2dB PSNR 감소를 보인다.

Aerial Object Detection and Tracking based on Fusion of Vision and Lidar Sensors using Kalman Filter for UAV

  • In this paper, we study on aerial objects detection and position estimation algorithm for the safety of UAV that flight in BVLOS. We use the vision sensor and LiDAR to detect objects. We use YOLOv2 architecture based on CNN to detect objects on a 2D image. Additionally we use a clustering method to detect objects on point cloud data acquired from LiDAR. When a single sensor used, detection rate can be degraded in a specific situation depending on the characteristics of sensor. If the result of the detection algorithm using a single sensor is absent or false, we need to complement the detection accuracy. In order to complement the accuracy of detection algorithm based on a single sensor, we use the Kalman filter. And we fused the results of a single sensor to improve detection accuracy. We estimate the 3D position of the object using the pixel position of the object and distance measured to LiDAR. We verified the performance of proposed fusion algorithm by performing the simulation using the Gazebo simulator.

복잡한 배경에서 MAWUPC 알고리즘을 이용한 얼굴과 손의 추적 (Face and Hand Tracking using MAWUPC algorithm in Complex background)

  • 본 논문에서는 움직임 색상(Moving Color) 개념을 바탕으로 물체의 색상 정보와 움직임 정보의 효율적인 결합을 통해서 추적을 수행하는 MAWUPC(Motion Adaptive Weighted Unmatched Pixel Count)알고리즘을 제안하고, 이를 이용하여 일반적인 배경을 가지는 영상시퀀스에서 얼굴과 손을 추적하는 방법을 제안한다. MAWUPC 알고리즘은 색상 정보와 움직임 정보의 효과적인 결합을 수행하는 움직임 색상 개념에 관한 기존 연구인 AWUPC 알고리즘을 개선한 것으로, 추적하고자 하는 물체의 색상 정보를 이용한 색상 변환(Color Transform)과 움직임 검출을 위한 UPC(Unmatched Pixel Count) 연산, 그리고 움직임 정보를 추출하는 이산 칼만 필터(Discrete Kalman Filter)의 효과적인 결합으로 이루어진다. 제안하는 알고리즘은 일반적으로 물체들의 추적 과정에서 발생되는 가장 큰 문제인 유사한 색상을 가진 추적하고자 하는 물체들간의 겹침 문제와 물체의 추적에서 방해가 되는 복잡한 배경 문제를 해결할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 논문에서는 제안하는 알고리즘이 복잡한 배경 내에서 한 대의 카메라를 사용하여 획득된 컬러 영상을 대상으로 움직임이 있는 얼굴과 손의 추적에서 자주 발생되는 심각한 문제인 얼굴과 손, 손과 손의 겹침 문제를 잘 해결할 수 있다는 것을 실험을 통해 보인다.

Unsupervised Single Moving Object Detection Based on Coarse-to-Fine Segmentation

  • An efficient and effective unsupervised single moving object detection framework is presented in this paper. Given the sparsely labelled trajectory points, we adopt a coarse-to-fine strategy to detect and segment the foreground from the background. The superpixel level coarse segmentation reduces the complexity of subsequent processing, and the pixel level refinement improves the segmentation accuracy. A distance measurement is devised in the coarse segmentation stage to measure the similarities between generated superpixels, which can then be used for clustering. Moreover, a Quadmap is introduced to facilitate the refinement in the fine segmentation stage. According to the experiments, our algorithm is effective and efficient, and favorable results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Edge-Preserving and Adaptive Transmission Estimation for Effective Single Image Haze Removal

  • This paper presents an effective single image haze removal using edge-preserving and adaptive transmission estimation to enhance the visibility of outdoor images vulnerable to weather and environmental conditions with computational complexity reduction. The conventional methods involve the time-consuming refinement process. The proposed transmission estimation however does not require the refinement, since it preserves the edges effectively, which selects one between the pixel-based dark channel and the patch-based dark channel in the vicinity of edges. Moreover, we propose an adaptive transmission estimation to improve the visual quality particularly in bright areas like sky. Experimental results with various hazy images represent that the proposed method is superior to the conventional methods in both subjective visual quality and computational complexity. The proposed method can be adopted to compose a haze removal module for realtime devices such as mobile devices, digital cameras, autonomous vehicles, and so on as well as PCs that have enough processing resources.

천정부착 랜드마크 위치와 에지 화소의 이동벡터 정보에 의한 이동로봇 위치 인식 (Mobile Robot Localization using Ceiling Landmark Positions and Edge Pixel Movement Vectors)

  • A new indoor mobile robot localization method is presented. Robot recognizes well designed single color landmarks on the ceiling by vision system, as reference to compute its precise position. The proposed likelihood prediction based method enables the robot to estimate its position based only on the orientation of landmark.The use of single color landmarks helps to reduce the complexity of the landmark structure and makes it easily detectable. Edge based optical flow is further used to compensate for some landmark recognition error. This technique is applicable for navigation in an unlimited sized indoor space. Prediction scheme and localization algorithm are proposed, and edge based optical flow and data fusing are presented. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides accurate estimation of the robot position with a localization error within a range of 5 cm and directional error less than 4 degrees.

  • An Eye Ball Sensor (EBS) is a system that locates the point where the user gazes on. The conventional EBS using a CCD camera needs many peripherals, software computation causing high cost and power consumption. This paper proposes a compact EBS using smart CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) pixels. The proposed single chip EBS does not need any peripheral and operates at higher speed and lower cost than the conventional EBS. The test chip was designed and fabricated for 32$\times$32 smart CIS pixel array with a 0.35 um CMOS process occupying 5.3$\textrm{mm}^2$ silicon area.

일반화된 Hough 변환을 위한 특수 목적 VLSI 시스템 설계에 관한 연구 (Specialized VLSI System Design for the Generalized Hough Transform)

  • In this research, a mesh connected VLSI structure is proposed for the real time computation of the generalized Hough transform(GHT). The purpose of the research is to design a generalized Hough transformer that can be realized as a single chip processor. The GHT has been modified to yield a highly parallel structure consisting of simple processing elements(PEs) and communication networks. In the proposed structure, the GHT can be computed by first assigning an image pixel to a PE and performing shift and add operations. The result of the CAD circuit simulation shows that it can be computed in the time proportional to the number of pixels in the pattern. In addition to the Hough transformer, the peak detector has been designed to reduce 1)the number of the I/O operations between the transformer and the host computer and 2) the host computer's burden for peak detection by transmitting only the local peaks detected from the transformed accumulator. It is expected that the proposed single chip Hough transformer with peak detector makes a fast and inexpensive edge based object recognition systems possible for many industrial and military applications.

Binary-phase Complex Spatial Light Modulators Driven by Mirror Symmetry

  • Binary-phase complex spatial light modulators (BP-C-SLMs) are proposed and simulated. This study shows that bottom-top mirror-symmetrical uniaxial systems between two orthogonal polarizers allow one to construct BP-C-SLMs. BP-C-SLMs double the information-handling capacity per pixel, compared to the conventional amplitude-only spatial light modulators (A-SLMs), as well as being simply implemented with a single spatial light modulator (SLM), rather than a combination of an A-SLM and a binary-phase SLMs. Under limited conditions, BP-C-SLMs can control only the amplitude in single-phase space, and act as A-SLMs.
