  • For high power photovoltaic (PV) grid-connected converters, high order filters such as multi-tuned filters and Traps+RC filters with outstanding filtering performance have been widely researched. In this paper, the optimization of a multi-tuned filter with a low damping resistance and research on its corresponding control scheme have been combined to improve the performance of the proposed filter. Based on the characteristics of the switching harmonics produced by PWM, the proposed filter is optimized to further improve its filtering performance. When compared with the more common Traps+RC filter, the advantages of the proposed filter with low damping resistances in attenuating the major switching harmonics have been demonstrated. In addition, a simpler topology and reduced power loss can be achieved. On the other hand, to make the implementation of the proposed filter possible, on the base of the unique frequency response characteristic of the proposed filter, a digital single-loop control scheme has been proposed. This scheme is a simple and effective means to suppress the resonance peak caused by a lack of damping. Therefore, a smaller volume, better efficiency of the proposed filter, and easy implementation of the corresponding control scheme can be realized. Finally, the superiority of the proposed filter topology and control scheme is verified in experiments.

  • This paper propose an initial rotor position detection method for sensorless operation of a single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(SP-PMSM) with asymmetric air-gap. In general, the sensorless control based on back-emf estimation is difficult to estimate the back-emf at the zero and low speed regions. For this reason, an open loop start-up technique is indispensable, and it is also necessary to detect the initial position of the rotor in order to rotate in a certain direction. In this paper, we propose a method to detect rotor polarity by adding offset voltage to high frequency voltage signal based on the magnetic characteristics of SP-PMSM. The validity and usefulness of the proposed algorithm are verified through several experimental results.

  • In this letter, a new dual-port Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna is introduced which has two independent signal feeding ports in a single antenna element to achieve smaller antenna volumes for the 5G mobile applications. The dual-port structure is implemented by adding a cross coupled semi-loop (CCSL) antenna as the secondary radiator to the ground short of inverted-F antenna (IFA). It is found that the port to port isolation is not deteriorated when an IFA and CCSL is combined to form a dual-port structure. The isolation property of the proposed antenna is compared with a polarization diversity based dual-port antenna proposed in the literature [9]. The operating frequency range is 3.3-4.0 GHz which is suitable for places where $4{\times}4$ MIMO systems are supposed to be deployed such as in China, EU, Korea and Japan at the band ${\times}$ (3.3 - 3.8GHz. The measured 6-dB impedance bandwidths of the proposed antennas are larger than 700 MHz with isolation between the feeding ports higher than 18 dB [1-2]. The simulation and measurement results show that the proposed antenna concept is a very promising alternative for 5G mobile applications.

  • An online estimation method for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems is presented without using any measurement of the secondary side or the load. This parameter estimation method can be applied with a controlling strategy that removes both the receiving terminal controller and the wireless communication. This improves the reliability of the system while reducing its costs and size. In a wireless power transfer system with an LCCL impedance matching circuit under a rectifier load, the actual load value, voltage/current and mutual inductance can be reflected through reflected impedance measuring at the primary side. The proposed method can calculate the phase angle tangent value of the secondary loop circuit impedance via the reflected impedance, which is unrelated to the mutual inductance. Then the load value can be determined based on the relationships between the load value and the secondary loop impedance. After that, the mutual inductance and transfer efficiency can be computed. According to the primary side voltage and current, the load voltage and current can also be detected in real-time. Experiments have verified that high estimation accuracy can be achieved with the proposed method. A single-controller based on the proposed parameter estimation method is established to achieve constant current control over a WPT system.

  • This paper presents a improved control technique to overcome disadvantage when the inductor current of boost converter in PV system becomes DCM(Discontinuous Conduction Mode) due to the low insolation. MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) output reference voltage could not be exactly followed by conventional dual-loop PI control method used typically because of the error between the actual current and measured current. Therefore, in this paper, Hybrid controller that changes the control method in DCM and CCM(Continuous Conduction Mode), and single state feedback controller are used to compensate that problem. The proposed control technique was verified by simulation using PSIM 9.0 and experiments.

  • The results of study on the active control of naturally occurring combustion oscillations with a single dominant frequency in an atmospheric dump combustor are presented. Control was achieved by an oscillatory infection of secondary fuel at the dump plane. A high speed solenoid valve with a maximum frequency of 250Hz was used as the actuator and a sound level meter, located at the combustor exit, measured the pressure fluctuations which served as the feedback signal for the control loop. Instability characteristics were mapped over a range of mean mixing section velocities from 6.7 m/s-9.3 m/s and with three mixing conditions. Different fuel/air mixing conditions were investigated by introducing varying percentages of primary fuel at two locations, one at the entrance to the mixing section and one 6 mixing tube diameters upstream of the dump plane. Control studies were conducted at a mean velocity of 9.3 m/s, with an air temperature of $415^{\circ}C$, and from flame blowout to the stoichiometric condition.

  • The conventional drive system of SRM has a current sensor per each phase. The torque demand signal generated by the outer control loop is translated into individual current reference signal for each phase. The torque is controlled by regulating these currents. Using the SRM in a variable-speed control, the phase currents are generally regulated to achieve a square wave. The simplest form of current regulation uses fixed frequency delta modulation of the phase voltages. The aim of this paper is to regulate 3-phases current of SRM by only single current sensor using delta modulation with digital chip. In this paper, the asymmetric bridge converter which is able to control independently phases and be excited simultaneously is used as the driver system for 6/4 poles SRM. And the current sensor is replaced 3 sensors of each phase with only one on bus line of converter so as to detect current of every phase. The proposed delta modulation technique has been implemented in a simple digital logic circuit using EPLD(Electrically Programmable Logic Device). This method is verified through simulation and experiment results.

  • The power quality of Single Phase Grid-Connected Inverters (GCIs) has received much attention with the increasing number of Distributed Generation (DG) systems. However, the performance of single phase GCIs get degraded due to several factors such as the grid voltage harmonics, the dead time effect, and the turn ON/OFF of the switches, which causes the harmonics at the output of GCIs. Therefore, it is not easy to satisfy the harmonic standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547 without the help of harmonic compensator. To meet the harmonic standards a certain kind of harmonic controller needs to be added to the current control loop to effectively mitigate the low order harmonics. In this paper, the harmonic compensation is performed using a novel robust harmonic compensation method based on Digital Lock-in Amplifier (DLA). In the proposed technique, DLAs are used to extract the amplitude and phase information of the harmonics from the output current and compensate it by using a simple PI controller in the feedforward manner. In order to show the superior performance of the proposed harmonic compensation technique, it is compared with those of conventional harmonic compensation methods in terms of the effectiveness of harmonic elimination, complexity, and implementation. The validity of the proposed harmonic compensation techniques for the single phase GCIs is verified through the experimental results with a 5kW single phase GCI. • This paper presents an output feedback robust H$\infty$ control problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems, which can be represented by an fuzzy dynamic model. The nonlinear system is represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, and the control design is carried out on the basis of the fuzzy model. Using a single quadratic Lyapunov function, the globally exponential stability and disturance attenuation of the closed-loop fuzzy control system are discussed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of robust H$\infty$ controllers are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Constructive algorithm for design of robust H$\infty$ controller is also developed. The resulting controller is nonlinear and automatically tuned based on fuzzy operation.

  • Conventional two-wheeled balancing robots are limited in terms of turning speed because they lack the lateral motion to compensate for the centrifugal force needed to stop rollover. In order to improve lateral stability, this paper suggests a two-wheeled balancing mobile platform equipped with a tilting mechanism to generate roll motions. In terms of static force analysis, it is shown that the two-body sliding type tilting method is more suitable for small-size mobile robots than the single-body type. For the mathematical modeling, the tilting-balancing platform is assumed as a 3D inverted pendulum and the four-degrees-of-freedom equation of motion is derived. In the velocity/posture control loop, the desired tilting angle is naturally determined according to the changes of forward velocity and steering yaw rate. The efficiency of the developed tilting type balancing mobile platform is validated through experimental results.
