The side burrs and shape distortion resulting from the micromachining of an array of V-shape microgrooves in fresnel lens mould were experimentally invesigated. The focus of this study is on the influence of depth of cut and prism angle on the burr growing rate. The main experiments were con- ducted on the single prism cutting for the convinient of measuring the burr shape and cutting force. From the observation of the burr shape and burr growing rate, it was found that there exits a critical depth of cut below which the burrs are more or less irregular and weak. But above that critical value, the burrs are re- latively clear and stiff.
This paper describes a symmetric method for determining a combination of element power and optical material to design a catadioptric system with corrected color aberration and flat Petzval curvature. To graphically obtain the solutions, a glass chart containing the Abbe number, the refractive index, and the optical power, which are closely related to these aberrations, is suggested. First, we recompose an optical system as a doublet of the specific lens and an equivalent single lens, and then locate both lenses on lines that are symmetric to each other on a glass chart, through changing the lens parameters effectively. Utilizing this method, an achromatic catadioptric system with flat Petzval curvature is obtained.

In this a paper, a new method to measure the wear of the single crystal diamond(SCD) tool using image processing is presented. To increase resoultion, high magnifying lens is used and to enlarge the measurement field of view, a image region matching method is applied. The shape of SCD tool is modeled by mathematical analysis. Cutting edge chipping and wear are calculated by the model. This method is proved to be efficient in detecting a few micron of wear and cutting edge loss by chipping along the whole cutting edge.
Purpose: We intended to study effects of wearing the progressive lenses on legibility of Korean letters under the VDT circumstance. Methods: Fifty subjects wearing the progressive lenses and the single focus lenses were asked to find designated characters on web-pages under the VDT circumstance. We measured times for subjects to read the web-pages and numbers of missed characters, considering them as standards of legibility, and compare results of the progressive lenses with those of the single focus lenses by variables of the size and legibility of letters and the width of web-pages. Results: In case of the progressive lenses, all the times to read the web-pages and some of the numbers of missed characters increased with statistical significance. Smaller the character size, lower the legibility of character itself, and wider the width of web-page, the legibility tended to be seriously lowered by the progressive lenses. Conclusions: It is presumed that the intermediate part of progressive lenses with narrow visual field lowers the legibility of Korean letters under the VDT circumstance.

The single lens event OGLE-2015-BLG-1482 has been simultaneously observed from two ground-based surveys and from Spitzer. The Spitzer data exhibit finite-source effects due to the passage of the lens close to or directly over the surface of the source star as seen from Spitzer. Thanks to measurements of the microns parallax and the finite-source effect, we find that the lens of OGLE-2015-BLG-1482 is a very low-mass star with the mass $0.10{\pm}0.02M{\odot}$ or a brown dwarf with the mass $55{\pm}9MJ$, which are respectively located at $DLS=0.80{\pm}0.19kpc$ and $DLS=0.54{\pm}0.08kpc$, and thus it is the first isolated low-mass microlens that has been located in the Galactic bulge. The degeneracy between the two solutions is severe. The fundamental reason for the degeneracy is that the finite-source effect is seen only in a single data point from Spitzer and this single data point gives rise to two ${\rho}$ solutions.

Most 3D displays that are currently in the market adopt the binocular disparity method creating a different image for the left and right eye for a 3 dimensional effect. However, commercialized 3D image output devices lack in performance making it uncomfortable for the viewer and restrict the viewer to certain positions. In this paper, we propose a single-cell polarized lens type stereoscopic system which has a smaller viewing angle and reduced crosstalk, with improved light penetration compared to existing double-cell structures; and analyzed the single-cell polarized lens type stereoscopic system properties, and conducted an effect analysis of performance improvement compared to the dual-cell type. Results showed that the single-cell type had a 25% improved performance, and the 3D crosstalk index which is an important index for quality characteristics of stereoscopic systems, increased over about 37%, compared to the dual-cell type.
Gaudi, Naber & Sackett pointed out that if an event is caused by a lens system containing more than two planets, all planets will affect the central region of the magnification pattern, and thus the existence of the multiple planets can be inferred by detecting additionally deformed anomalies from intensive monitoring of high magnification microlensing events. Unfortunately, this method has important limitations in identifying the existence of multiple planets and determining their parameters (the mass ratio and the instantaneous projected separation) due to the degeneracy of the resulting light curve anomalies from those induced by a single planet and the complexity of multiple planet lensing models. In this paper, we propose a new channel to search for multiple planets via microlensing. The method is based on the fact that the lensing light curve anomalies induced by multiple planets are well approximated by the superposition of those of the single planet systems where the individual planet-primary pairs act as independent lens systems. Then, if the source trajectory passes both of the outer deviation regions induced by the individual planets, one can unambiguously identify the existence of the multiple planets. We illustrate that the probability of successively detecting light curve anomalies induced by two Jovian-mass planets located in the lensing zone through this channel will be substantial. Since the individual anomalies can be well described by much simpler single planet lensing models, the proposed method has an important advantage of allowing one to accurately determine the parameters of the individual planets.

A single-learner model which integrates the user's positive and negative perceptions is proposed by augmenting counterfactual data to the interaction data between users and items, which are mainly used in collaborative filtering in this study. The proposed CausRec showed superior performance compared to the existing NCF model in terms of F1 value and AUC in experiments using three published datasets: MovieLens 100K, Amazon Gift Card, and Amazon Magazine. Compared to the existing NCF model, the F1 and AUC values of CausRec showed 1.2% and 2.6% performance improvement in MovieLens 100K data, and 2.2% and 10% improvement in Amazon Gift Card data, respectively. In particular, in experiments using Amazon Magazine data, F1 and AUC values were improved by 11.7% and 21.9%, respectively, showing a significant performance improvement effect. The performance of CausRec is improved because both positive and negative perceptions of the item were reflected in the recommendation at the same time. It is judged that the proposed method was able to improve the performance of the collaborative filtering because it can simultaneously alleviate the sparsity and imbalance problems of the interaction data.
Previous designs of conventional aerodynamic lenses have a limitation of narrow range of focusable particle size, e.g. 30 to 300nm or 3 to 30nm. To enlarge the focusable size range to 30-3000nm, it is necessary to avoid a significant loss of particles larger than 300nm inside the lenses. From numerical simulations on size-resolved particle trajectories, we confirmed that the traveling losses of such large particles could be avoided only when the radial position of particles approaching the orifice lens was near the lens axis. Hence, we designed the lens system consisting of a converging-diverging nozzle and 7 orifices to fulfill the requirement. In particular, the orifices were aligned in a way that their diameters were descending and ascending to the downstream. As a result, 30-2800nm particles can be focused to the particle beam of 0.2mm or less in radius with above 85% transmission efficiency. Even $10{\mu}m$ particles can be focused with 74% of transmission efficiency.
Novel wafer-level fabrication of a glass ball-lens is realized for optoelectronic applications. A Pyrex wafer is bonded to a silicon wafer and cross-cut into a square-tile pattern, followed by wet-etching of the underlying silicon. Cubes of Pyrex on the undercut silicon are then turned into ball shapes by thermal reflow, and separated from the wafer by further etching of the silicon support. Radial variation and surface roughness are measured to be less than ${\pm}3\;{\mu}m$ and ${\pm}1\;nm$, respectively, for ball diameter of about $500\;{\mu}m$. A surface defect on the ball that is due to the silicon support is shown to be healed by using a silicon-optical-bench. Optical power-relay of the ball lens showed the maximum efficiency of 65% between two single-mode fibers on the silicon-optical-bench.
