  • Industrial single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is an useful technique to investigate the dynamic behavior of process flow. In the present study, to evaluate the influence of a void on the performance of industrial SPECT, industrial SPECT with various radioisotope sources and gas holdups was modeled by the Monte Carlo simulation. The results are very encouraging; that is, the void little influences the performance of industrial SPECT, which means that industrial SPECT could be a suitable tool to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the flow in a water-air phase process.

  • The surface structure of the adsorption site for the identification of active sites involved in the Ziegler-Natta catalyst was studied by surface science techniques. As an example of a real catalyst, TiCl3 single crystals were prepared in a gradient furnace designed for this study and characterized by Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) under ultrahigh vacuum condition. The chlorine covered Ti (0001) surface was employed as a model catalyst for the study of Ziegler-Natta catalyst. The diffuse LEED (DLEED) technique for the surface structural determination was applied to this disordered chlorine adsorbed on Ti (0001) surface. The diffuse scattering intensities were measured by a TV-computer method using a low light level video camera. From an analysis of two catalyst systems, the informations for the surface structure of the model catalyst surfaces were derived.

  • We propose a method generating elemental images for the integral imaging using 4-step phaseshifting digital holography. Phase shifting digital holography is a way recording the digital hologram by changing the phase of the reference beam and extracting the complex field of the object beam. Since all 3D information is captured by phase-shifting digital holography, the elemental images for any specifications of the lens array can be generated from single phase-shifting digital holography. In experiment, phase-shifting is achieved by rotating half- and quarter- wave plates and the resultant interference patterns are captured by a $3272{\times}2469$ pixel CCD camera with $27{\mu}m{\times}27{\mu}m$ pixel size.

  • Iris diagnosis based on the color and texture information is one of a novel approach which can represent the current state of a certain organ inside body or the health condition of a person. In analysis of the iris images, there are critical image artifacts which can prevent of use interpretation of the iris textures on images. Here, we developed the iris diagnosis system based on a hand-held typed imaging probe which consists of a single camera sensor module with 8M pixels, two pairs of 400~700 nm LED, and a guide beam. Two original images with different light noise pattern were successively acquired in turns, and the light noise-free image was finally reconstructed and demonstrated by the proposed artifact removal approach.

  • In this paper, we present a real-time cattle action recognition algorithm to detect the estrus phase of cattle from a live video stream. In order to classify cattle movement, specifically, to detect the mounting action, the most observable sign of the estrus phase, a simple yet effective feature description exploiting motion history images (MHI) is designed. By learning the proposed features using the support vector machine framework, various representative cattle actions, such as mounting, walking, tail wagging, and foot stamping, can be recognized robustly in complex scenes. Thanks to low complexity of the proposed action recognition algorithm, multiple cattle in three enclosures can be monitored simultaneously using a single fisheye camera. Through extensive experiments with real video streams, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm outperforms a conventional human action recognition algorithm by 18% in terms of recognition accuracy even with much smaller dimensional feature description.

  • Depth information used in SLAM and visual odometry is essential in robotics. Depth information often obtained from sensors or learned by networks. While learning-based methods have gained popularity, they are mostly limited to RGB images. However, the limitation of RGB images occurs in visually derailed environments. Thermal cameras are in the spotlight as a way to solve these problems. Unlike RGB images, thermal images reliably perceive the environment regardless of the illumination variance but show lacking contrast and texture. This low contrast in the thermal image prohibits an algorithm from effectively learning the underlying scene details. To tackle these challenges, we propose multi-channel remapping for contrast. Our method allows a learning-based depth prediction model to have an accurate depth prediction even in low light conditions. We validate the feasibility and show that our multi-channel remapping method outperforms the existing methods both visually and quantitatively over our dataset.

  • With the advent of cell phone digital cameras, and sophisticated photo editing software, digital images can be easily manipulated and altered. Although good forgeries may leave no visual clues of having been tampered with, they may, nevertheless, alter the underlying statistics of an image. Most digital camera equipped in cell phones employ a single image sensor in conjunction with a color filter array (CFA), and then interpolates the missing color samples to obtain a three channel color image. This interpolation introduces specific correlations which are likely to be destroyed when tampering with an image. We quantify the specific correlations introduced by CFA interpolation, and describe how these correlations, or lack thereof, can be automatically detected in any portion of an image. We show the efficacy of this approach in revealing traces of digital tampering in lossless and lossy compressed color images interpolated with several different CFA algorithms in test cell phones.

  • Cracks may occur in reinforced concrete (RC) structures due to various physical and chemical factors, and the growth of cracks causes deterioration of the structure's performance. It is important to prevent the expansion of cracks through periodic diagnosis of cracks in structures. In order to enable free crack exploration even in a narrow space, a construction robot using a Mecanum wheel that can move up, down, left and right and rotate in place was designed. High-quality crack images were periodically collected through the camera, and the image fragments stored during the exploration were combined into a single photo after the exploration was completed. The robot detected cracks with a width of 0.2 mm or more on the concrete probe surface with an accuracy of about 90% or more.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of obtaining high density geometric information using multi-view structured light. Reconstruction error due to the difference in resolution between the projector and the camera occurs when reconstruction a 3D shape from a structured light system to a single projector. This shows that the error in the point cloud in 3D is also the same when reconstruction the shape of the object. So we propose a high density method using multiple projectors to solve such a reconstruction error.
