  • Gene expression data is obtained through many stages of an experiment and errors produced during the process may cause missing values. Due to the distinctness of the data so called 'small n large p', genes have to be selected for statistical analysis, like classification analysis. For this reason, imputation and gene selection are important in a microarray data analysis. In the literature, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis have been studied respectively. However, imputation, gene selection and classification analysis are sequential processing. For this aspect, we compare the performance of classification methods after imputation and gene selection methods are applied to microarray data. Numerical simulations are carried out to evaluate the classification methods that use various combinations of the imputation and gene selection methods.

  • A side mirror is an important safety tool with which the driver can observe objects out of sight. This paper presents an organized design technology for the side mirror of improved vibration characteristics. Resonance response to forced vibration is critical to observability through the mirror to be designed. This study aims at the reduction of vibration level by the modification of mirror structures and consequent effects are predicted by computer simulations. We used a three-dimensional solid modeling and the modal and frequency analysis ; Pro/Engineer is used as a solid modeler; Pro/Mechanica for vibration analysis. The simulation results are compared with those obtained in experiemnts to check the validity by the three-dimensional modeling. The design technique of side mirror has been established and found to be effective in vibration analysis of redesigned parts.

  • Multiple level performance of seismically isolated elevated storage tank isolated with multi-phase friction pendulum bearing is investigated under totally 60 records developed for multiple level seismic hazard analysis (SLE, DBE and MCE). Mathematical formulations involving complex time history analysis have been proposed for analysis of typical storage tank by multi-phase friction pendulum bearing. Multi-phase friction pendulum bearing represent a new generation of adaptive friction isolation system to control super-structure demand in different hazard levels. This isolator incorporates four concave surfaces and three independent pendulum mechanisms. Pendulum stages can be set to address specific response criteria for moderate, severe and very severe events. The advantages of a Triple Pendulum Bearing for seismic isolation of elevated storage tanks are explored. To study seismic performance of isolated elevated storage tank with multi-phase friction pendulum, analytical simulations were performed with different friction coefficients, pendulum radii and slider displacement capacities.

  • In this paper, a study on the residual stress of plate with longitudinal stiffeners is explained in terms of the welding sequences. In order to verify the results of numerical analysis, the hole drilling method (HDM) is performed, to measuring the residual stresses of the test plates in $CO_2$ Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) under various welding conditions. The non-linear transient analysis technique for the numerical analysis in a large and complicate structure is considered. The residual stress of plate in consideration of the welding sequences and directions is evaluated by some numerical simulations and also by experiments. Comparison of numerical analysis results with experimental data shows the accuracy and validity of the proposed method.

  • The aeroelastic analysis of rotor blades with trailing edge flaps, focused on reducing vibration while minimizing control effort, are investigated using large deflection-type beam theory in forward flight. The rotor blade aerodynamic forces are calculated using two-dimensional quasi-steady strip theory. For the analysis of forward flight, the nonlinear periodic blade steady response is obtained by integrating the full finite element equation in time through a coupled trim procedure with a vehicle trim. The objective function, which includes vibratory hub loads and active flap control inputs, is minimized by an optimal control process. Numerical simulations are performed for the steady-state forward flight of various advance ratios. Also, numerical results of the steady blade and flap deflections, and the vibratory hub loads are presented for various advance ratios and are compared with the previously published analysis results obtained from modal analysis based on a moderate deflection-type beam theory.

  • A solar power generator is usually installed outdoors and it is exposed to extreme environments such as snow weight and wind loading. The solar tracker structure should be designed to have sufficient stiffness and strength against such loads. In this paper, simulations are performed by varying the parameters such as wind directions, wind speeds and the pose of the solar panel to evaluate the effects of extreme wind on solar tracker. As the effects of wind load, maximum displacement and maximum equivalent stress in the solar tracker are calculated. Finite element stress analysis is carried out by using the pressure distribution that is obtained by prior wind load analysis due to the flow around the solar tracker. The stress analysis of solar tracker to check and/or improve structural robustness provides some useful instructions for structural design or revision of solar tracker.

  • Recently, the pedestrian protection regulations of Europe and Japan are becoming more stringent. However, it is difficult to evaluate the performance of protection because each regulation has different test conditions such as dummy, impact speed and so on. In this study, we construct a finite element model of pedestrian lower legform impactor prescribed in EEVC (European Experimental Vehicle Committee) W/G 10, and performed a impact analysis between the impactor and the front end module of vehicle. The simulations are carried out by using LS-DYNA3D, which is a well-known nonlinear dynamic simulation software. The analysis results according to various impact location show the impact characteristics of the lower legform.

  • Injection molding process was taken to manufacture DC motor case that surrounds DC motor used as automobile parts. Up to now, DC motor case has been made by the deep drawing process or bending process of metal materials. Simulations of filling, packing and cooling processes were done by CAE tool like Moldflow software. Optimal delivery system was decided from the analysis of flow balance, and packing and cooling analyses were performed by using the design of experiment to minimize the volumetric shrinkage of molded part and the temperature difference between mold and part.

  • A comparative study on the turbulent flaw simulation and the potential flaw analysis has been performed. A law Mach number preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver, using the multi-block grid method and a panel method based on the velocity potential, have been developed and validated by comparison to the experimental data. The present numerical analysis methods are applied to the ground effect problem around the NACA 4412 airfoil. It has been confirmed that the potential flaw analysis on the ground effect, using the image method, is consistent, to some degree, with the viscous calculations for high Reynolds number flows.

  • The miniaturization and integration are trend of modern blood analyses. Micro-Bio-Fluidics plays an important role in a micro blood analysis system. In this paper, analysis and design technology for blood analysis system is presented. Numerical simulations of a blood flow in micro separator and reservoir are conducted. As a result, we suggest on-chip micro separator, which performed plasma separation from whole blood in micro channels.
