The purpose of this study is to evaluate a defrost model for the possibility of defrosting on wheelhouse window and the heat capacity if defrosting nozzle by using the commercial CFD solver FLUENT. A detailed simulation model has been created which contains the defrosting nozzle, window and the interior/exterior forced convection boundary. In this numerical study, the heat and mass transfer coupled during defrosting and investigated the defrost time for different hot gas temperature, external wind speed and temperature condition.
Yoke simulator has been made for understanding beam movements in the deflection fields of the CRT. Consisting of the modeler, solver and post-processor, the simulator makes yoke model (conventional and rectangular yoke) and calculates charge sources and magnetic filed by BEM (boundary element method). This system supports a number of charge elements (line and surface charges) and beam movements can be predicted by the system.
We report our study on the implementation of Q tensor approach into three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) numerical solver. The comparative simulation results demonstrated the possibility of a different director configuration in between Q tensor method and vector method. The comparative study confirmed that Q Tensor implementation is more appropriate for OCB analysis than the vector method.

A power plant simulation tool ('PowerSim') has been developed with 10 years experience from the development of a plant simulator for efficient modeling of a power plant. PowerSim is the first developed tool in Korea for plant simulation with various plant component models, instructor station function and the Graphic Model Builder (GMB). PowerSim is composed of a graphic editor using general purpose design software, a netlist converter, component models, the scheduler, Instructor Station and an executive. The graphic editor generates a netlist that shows the connection status of the various plant components from the Simdiagram, which is drawn by Icon Drag method supported by GUI environment of the PowerSim. Netlist Converter normalizes the connection status of the components. Scheduler makes scheduling for the execution of the device models according to the netlist. Therefore, the user makes Simdiagram based on the plant Pipe and Instrument Drawing (P&ID) and inputs the plant data for automatic simulating execution. This paper introduces Graphic Model Builder (GMB), instructor station, executive and the detailed introduction of thermal-hydraulic modeling. This paper will also introduce basic ideas on how the simulation Diagram, based on netlist generated from general purpose design software, is made and how the system is organized. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.

We have developed an information management tool for the EDISON (EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net) open platform. EDISON is, at present, a web-based simulation service for education and research in five computational areas, namely, nanophysics, fluid dynamics, chemistry, structural dynamics, and computer aided optimal design. The EDISON open platform consists of three tiers: EDISON application framework, EDISON middleware, and EDISON infra-resources. The platform provides web portals for education and research in areas such as computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, computational nanophysics, computational structural dynamics, and computer aided optimal design along with user service. The main purpose of this research is to test the behavior of the release version of the EDISON Open-Platform under normal operating conditions. This management tool has been implemented using the RESTful API designed in EDISON middleware. The intention is to check co-operation between the middleware and the infrastructure. Suggested tools include User management, Simulation and Job management, and Simulation software (i.e., solver) testing. Finally, it is considered meaningful to develop a management tool that is not supported in other web-based online simulation services.

An integrated simulation tool for multilayer stepped pyramidal structures is presented. The tool, based on a semi-analytical mathematical strategy, is able to calculate the temperature distributions and thermal stresses at the interfaces between the layers of such structures. The core of the thermal solver is the analytical simulator for power electronic devices, DJOSER, which has been supplemented with a mechanical solver based on the finite-element method. To this end, a new ele-ment is proposed whose geometry is defined by its mean surface and thickness, just as in a plate. The resulting mechanical model is fully three-dimensional, in the sense that the deformability in the direction orthogonal to the mean surface is taken into account. The dedicated finite element code developed for solving the equilibrium problem of structures made up of two or more superimposed plates subjected to thermal loads is applied to some two-layer samples made of silicon and copper. Comparisons performed with the results of standard finite element analyses using a large number of brick elements reveal the soundness of the strategy employed and the accuracy of the tool developed.

In this study, we conducted a numerical simulation using Navier-Stokes Solver (HYMO-WASS-3D) in order to analyze wave attenuation under wave-current interaction found in existing hydraulic experiments. It showed that wave energy and wave height are reduced as the wave propagates in coexisting fields between waves and currents. And the wave attenuation became more serious as the velocity of current and thus turbulence intensity were increased at wave-current coexisting field. As well, the wave attenuation became more serious with lower wave height and shorter period when the wave propagates the same distance under interactions between waves and currents.

A two-dimensional unsteady, inviscid flow solver has been developed for the simulation of airfoil-vortex interactions on unstructured dynamically adapted meshes. The Euler solver is based on a second-order accurate implicit time integration using a point Gauss-Seidel relaxation scheme and a dual time-step subiteration. A vertex-centered, finite-volume discretization is used in conjunction with the Roe's flux-difference splitting. An unsteady solution-adaptive dynamic mesh scheme is used by adding and deleting mesh points to take account of both spatial and temporal variations of the flow field. The effect of vortex interaction on the aeroelastic displacement of an airfoil attached to the idealized two degree-of-freedom spring system is investigated.

Numerical optimization of two dimensional high lift configuration was performed with flow solver and optimization method based on RSM(Response Surface Model). Navier-Stokes solver with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model was selected for the simulation of highly complex and separated flows on the flap. For the simultaneous optimization of both flap shape and setting (gap/overlap), 10 design variables (eight variables for flap shape variation and two variables for flap setting) were chosen. In order to generate the response surface model, 128 experimental points were selected for 10 design variables. The objective function considering maximum lift coefficient, lift to drag ratio and lift coefficient at specific angle of attack was selected to reduce flow separation on the flap surface. The present method was applied to two dimensional fowler flap in landing configuration. After applying the present method, it was shown that the optimized high lift configuration had less flow separation on the flap surface and lift to drag ratio was suppressed over entire angle of attack range.
