Vents at outer walls of a large factory building are very important for natural ventilation. But, if a full-open vent is used, rain comes through the vents. We tried to utilize the natural ventilation effectively using a louver. A 1/120 scale-down building model was placed inside an atmospheric boundary layer simulated in a wind tunnel test section. The effect of louver angle on the ventilation flow inside the factory building was investigated experimentally. Instantaneous velocity fields inside the building model were measured using a 2-frame PIV system with varying the louver angles ($\theta=20^{\circ},\;40^{\circ},\;60^{\circ}$). For the case of $\theta=60^{\circ}$, as the incoming flow into the factory building increases, the inside velocity distribution becomes uniformly.

In 2D and 3D computer graphics, fractal techniques have been applied ter rain models. In general, a specific 3D terrain model such as Cheju or Uleung Island could not beformulated by statistical fractalsowing to the randomeffects. However, by locating the control points on the edges and the surface of a specific terrain such as Cheju Island, a similar shape of the terrain model can be simulated. This paper presents the way of formulating a specific 3D terrain model by the statistical fractals with fixed midpoints.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the GLEAMS-PADDY model by applying it to estimate nutrients loading from paddy-field areas. Field data from Soro region of Chungbuk province during May to September 1999 were used for model application. Field data collected include the amounts of rainfall, irrigation water, drainage water, ET, and Percolation in hydrology Part. T-N and T-P concentrations in the rain water, irrigation water, ponded water, drainage water and percolated water were measured. The comparisons of observed and simulated water balance components and nutrient concentrations showed reasonably good agreements and the GLEAMS-PADDY model may be used to simulate nutrients loading from paddy fields. Futher research was suggested to include the erosion submodel in the GLEAMS-PADDY model to better simulate the nutrient behavior. In addition, the pesticide submodel also recommended to be included in order to simulate the various pesticide applied in paddy fields.

The variable fatigue load is simulated in this study. The stability and the life of the material are analyzed theoretically by Ansys program. These results are successfully applied to the practical wheel to predict the prevention of fracture and the endurance. The life and the damage on the every part of the fatigue specimen can be predicted. As the available lives are compared for every loading variation, the rain flow and damage matrix results can be helpful in determining the effects of small stress cycles in any loading history. The rainbow and damage matrices illustrate the possible effects of infinite life. The safety and stability of wheel and the other practical structures according to the variable load can be estimated by using the results of this study.
A precipitation change scenario in Korea due to atmospheric $ doubling has been provided with a mixed method (Rebinson and Finkelstein, 1991) based on the simulated precipitation data by three GCM(CCC, UI, and GFDL GCM) experiments. Through the analysis the precipitation change by atmospheric $ doubing can be summarized as follows : Korea may have more precipitation as much as 25mm/yr during spring season and more less 50 mm/yr during summer and autumn, respectively. In the contrary Korea may have less rainfall as much as 13 mm/yr during winter. In terms of percentage with respect to current climatological value of precipitation Korea may have more rain as much as 10%, 13% and 24%, respectively, for spring, summer and autumn than current climate. However, Korea may have less precipitation during winter than current climatological average.
Analyses of observational data and numerical simulations were performed to understand the mechanism of MCSs (Mesoscale Convective Systems) occurred on 13-14 July 2004 over Jindo area of the Korean Peninsula. Observations indicated that synoptic environment was favorable for the occurrence of heavy rainfall. This heavy rainfall appeared to have been enhanced by convergence around the Changma front and synoptic scale lifting. From the analyses of storm environment using Haenam upper-air observation data, it was confirmed that strong convective instability was present around the Jindo area. Instability indices such as K-index, SSI-index showed favorable condition for strong convection. In addition, warm advection in the lower troposphere and cold advection in the middle troposphere were detected from wind profiler data. The size of storm, that produced heavy rainfall over Jindo area, was smaller than $50{\times}50km^2$ according to radar observation. The storm developed more than 10 km in height, but high reflectivity (rain rate 30 mm/hr) was limited under 6 km. It can be judged that convection cells, which form cloud clusters, occurred on the inflow area of the Changma front. In numerical simulation, high CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy) was found in the southwest of the Korean Peninsula. However, heavy rainfall was restricted to the Jindo area with high CIN (Convective INhibition) and high CAPE. From the observations of vertical drop size distribution from MRR (Micro Rain Radar) and the analyses of numerically simulated hydrometeors such as graupel etc., it can be inferred that melted graupels enhanced collision and coalescence process of heavy precipitation systems.

Agriculture is the lifeblood of the economy in Ghana, employs about 42% of the population work force and accounts for 30% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Corn (maize) is the major cereal crop grown as staple food under rain fed conditions, covers over 92% of the total agricultural area, and contributes 54% of the caloric intake. Issues of hunger and food insecurity for the entire nation are associated with corn scarcity and low production. The climate changes are expected to affect corn production in Ghana. This study evaluated variations of corn yields based on different climate conditions of rain-fed area in the Dangbe East District of Ghana. AquaCrop model has been used to simulate corn growing cycles in study area for this purpose. The main goal for this study was to predict yield of corn using selected climatic parameters from 1992 to 2013 using different climate scenarios. The Model was calibrated and validated using observed field data, and the simulated grain yields matched well with observed values for the season under production giving an R squared (R2)of 0.93 and Nash-Sutcliff Error(NSE) of 0.21. Study results showed that rainfall reduction in the range of -5% to -20% would reduce the yield from 1.315ton/ha to 0.421ton/ha (-21. 3%) whereas increasing temperature from 1% to 7% would result in the maximum yield reduction of -20.6% (1.315 to 1.09 ton/ha.). On the other hand, increasing rainfall from 5-20% resulted in yield increment of 68% (1.315-2.209 ton/ha) and decreasing temperature produce 7% increase in yield ( 1.315 to 1.401ton/ha). These results provide useful information to adopt strategies by the Government of Ghana and farmers for improving national food security under climate change.

The frequency of localized heavy rain is increasing due to the influence of abnormal climate that is rapidly increasing in recent years. As a result, the difficulty of safe water resource management is increasing and human and material damage is increasing. Various countermeasures are being established to reduce the damage caused by localized heavy rain, but small-scale mountain catchments are experiencing many difficulties due to the lack of a basic plan. Therefore in this study the risk of flooding was evaluated using the rainfall-runoff model in the Yu-pyeong catchment national park among national parks in Korea. As a result of the analysis, it was simulated that flooding occurred in the Yu-pyeong catchment of Mt. Jirisan when rainfall with a recurrence frequency of 50 years or more occurred, and it was confirmed that there was a high risk of structures, safety facilities and trails.
The objective of this study was to elucidate the tolerance of woody plants to simulated acid rain in relation to mycorrhizal inoculation. Germinating seedlings of Robinia pseudoacacia were planted in 1I pots with autoclaved soil mixture of vermiculite, sand and nursery soil at 1:1:1 ratio. Each pot was inoculated with both crushed root nodules from a wild tree of the same species and commercial arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculum of Glomus intraradices at the time of planting the seedlings. Simulated acid rains at pH 2.6, 3.6, 4.6, and 5.6 were made by mixing sulfuric acid and nitric acid at 3: 1 ratio. Each pot received nutrient solution without N and P, and was also supplied with 180 ml of the one pH level of the acid rains once a week for 50 days. The plants were grown in the green house. At the end of experimental period, plants were harvested to determine contents of chlorophyll, mineral nutrients and net photosynthesis in the tissues, dry weight of the plants, and mycorrhizal infection in the roots. Mycorrhizal infection rate was significantly reduced only at pH 2.6, which meant vitality of G intraradices was inhibited at extremely low pH. Height growth, dry weight production, nodule production and chlorophyll content were increased by mycorrhizal infection in all the pH levels except pH 3.6. Particularly, mycorrhizal inoculation increased root nodule production by 85% in pH 5.6 and 45% in 4.6 treatments. But the stimulatory effect of mycorrhizal inoculation on nodule production was reduced at pH 3.6 and 2.6. Net photosynthesis was increased by mycorrhizal infection in all the pH levels. The phosphorus(P) content in the tissues was increased by 43% in average by mycorrhizal inoculation, which was statistically significant except in pH 2.6. It was concluded that mycorrhizal inoculation of Robinia pseudoacacia would enhance growth and resistance of the plants to acid rain by improving the photosynthesis, phosphorus nutrition, and more nodule production.

The demand for rainfall data in gridded digital formats has increased in recent years due to the close linkage between hydrological models and decision support systems using the geographic information system. One of the most widely used tools for digital rainfall mapping is the PRISM (parameter-elevation regressions on independent slopes model) which uses point data (rain gauge stations), a digital elevation model (DEM), and other spatial datasets to generate repeatable estimates of monthly and annual precipitation. In the PRISM, rain gauge stations are assigned with weights that account for other climatically important factors besides elevation, and aspects and the topographic exposure are simulated by dividing the terrain into topographic facets. The size of facet or grid cell resolution is determined by the density of rain gauge stations and a $5{\times}5km$ grid cell is considered as the lowest limit under the situation in Korea. The PRISM algorithms using a 270m DEM for South Korea were implemented in a script language environment (Python) and relevant weights for each 270m grid cell were derived from the monthly data from 432 official rain gauge stations. Weighted monthly precipitation data from at least 5 nearby stations for each grid cell were regressed to the elevation and the selected linear regression equations with the 270m DEM were used to generate a digital precipitation map of South Korea at 270m resolution. Among 1.25 million grid cells, precipitation estimates at 166 cells, where the measurements were made by the Korea Water Corporation rain gauge network, were extracted and the monthly estimation errors were evaluated. An average of 10% reduction in the root mean square error (RMSE) was found for any months with more than 100mm monthly precipitation compared to the RMSE associated with the original 5km PRISM estimates. This modified PRISM may be used for rainfall mapping in rainy season (May to September) at much higher spatial resolution than the original PRISM without losing the data accuracy.
