  • Bioequivalence test of $Asthcontin^{\circledR}$ tablet, a commercial slow-release theophylline (TP) dosage form, was performed using $Slo-bid^{\circledR}$ capsule as the reference. Since it has been confirmed that the saliva concentration of TP is closely correlated with the plasma concentration in man, the area under the saliva concentration-time curve was used as a bioavailability parameter. The statistical analysis showed that the two dosage forms are equivalent in bioavailability estimating from the saliva concentration. The results supported that the use of soliva as a test sample provides simple and easy techniques for bioequivalence tests of TP-containing dosage forms.

  • The main objectives of this paper are to compare the obtained mechanical characteristics of reduced-scale model materials with those of the prototype and to provide the information on the best selection of materials. Manufacturing techniques on the micro-concrete and reduced reinforcement are introduced. The test results of these materials are shown to be satisfactory with regard to the similitude requrement. The simple beam tests were performed to verify similitude in the bond behavior between micro-concrete and reduced reinforcement. Those results also prove that these manufacturing and experimental techniques are useful and reliable for reduced-scale model test.

  • Three types of model concrete with different mix ratios for 1/10 scale reinforced concrete model were made and tested to find the best solution for the simulation of mechanical characteristics of prototype concrete. Scaled reinforcing materials in diameter(D1.8) having similar con-figuration and mechanical properties with commercial deformed bars(D19) were prepared for 1/10 scale model tests of reinforced concrete structures. Two types of model test using D1.8 model reinforcing bars and model concrete, monotonic simple beam test and cyclic cantilever beam test, were performed to ensure and check the similitude of bond behavior between 1/10 scale model and prototype. The test results showed that the flexural behavior of 1/10 scale models can be simulated with accuracy enough for practical use in monotonic and cyclic loading test.

  • This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of a SRM drive for EPS application. A rack mounted EFS system is considered in this paper. A conventional driving room space and mechanical structure are suggested in design stage. In the restricted design conditions, motor parameters are determined for sufficient torque and speed. For the smooth torque generation and simple circuit of power system, 12/8 motor drive is considered. With FEM and magnetic circuit analysis designed motor is simulated to meet the requirement of specifications. Effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by the manufactured prototype motor drive tests.

  • A shading ring in an AC solenoid plays an important role in reducing vibration and humming sound. Estimation of performance of the shading ring placed in a stator pole of the AC solenoid is not an easy task due to the difficulty in measurement of the current and flux linkage of the shading ring. In this paper, dynamic performance of an AC solenoid with a shading ring is analyzed through the simulation using electromagnetic analysis software and the results are verified by simple AC and DC voltage tests. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the shading ring in the AC solenoid not only increases pull force, but also reduces operation time, vibration and humming sound.

  • This paper presents a novel hybrid pole BLSRM (Bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor) and its radial force control scheme. The proposed hybrid pole BLSRM has separated radial force poles and rotating torque poles. According to the FEM analysis, the proposed BLSRM has an excellent linear characteristic of radial force and controllability that is independent from the torque current. The radial force can be produced by the radial force winding which is wound at the separated radial force poles. The rotating torque is produced by the excitation current of the torque windings which are wound at the torque pole. The proposed radial force control scheme is independent of the phase torque winding current. A simple PID controller and look-up table are used to maintain a constant rotor air-gap. The proposed BLSRM and its radial force control scheme are verified by FEM analysis and experimental tests.

  • In this paper, the strain-gauge type accelerometer is developed. This type of accelerometer has simple structure and cost for manufacturing is cheap, compared with other types of accelerometer such as piezoelectric, capacitance and servo, etc. Also it is very sensitive to the low frequency vibration which is the prominent characteristics of the vibration occurring by vehicles moving across a bridge. Two prototype accelerometers are designed and manufactured based upon the FE(Finite Element) method and static and dynamic calibration tests are performed to check out the linearity, sensitivity and cross sensitivity, etc. Experimental results designate that the proposed accelerometer show reasonable performances compared to the commercial one.

  • Many tests for multivariate normality are based on the spherical coordinates of the scaled residuals of multivariate observations. Moore and Stubblebine's (1981) Pearson chi-square test is based on the radii of the scaled residuals, or equivalently the sample Mahalanobis distances of the observations from the sample mean vector. The chi-square statistic does not have a limiting chi-square distribution since the unknown parameters are estimated from ungrouped data. We will derive a simple closed form of the Rao-Robson chi-square test statistic and provide a self-contained proof that it has a limiting chi-square distribution. We then provide an illustrative example of application to a real data with a simulation study to show the accuracy in finite sample of the limiting distribution.

  • This paper presents a simple procedure to obtain the instantaneous cutting force constants needed to predict milling forces. Cutting force data measured in a series of slot milling tests were used to determine the cutting force constants at different feed rates. The values of the cutting force constants were determined directly at the tool rotation angle that maximized the uncut chip thickness. Then, the instantaneous cutting force constant was obtained as a function of the instantaneous uncut chip thickness. This approach can greatly enhance the accuracy of the mechanistic cutting force model for end milling. In addition, the influences of several cutting parameters on the cutting forces, such as the tool helix angle and axial depth of cut, were discussed.

  • An experimental and analyical investigations were undertaken to improve understanding of spring-back phenomena of chopped fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite sheet. The materials tested contained 20, 35, 40 percent by weight of readomly oriented glass fiber in a prolypropylene matrix. The simple bending tests were performed at temperatures ranging form 75 .deg. c to 150 .deg. c with 25 .deg. c increment and at punch speed of 1mm/sec and 0.01mm/sec. The spring-back angel measured in pure bending is compared with the prediction base on the analytical model. Good agreement between experimental and predicted results was observed.
