  • In this paper, we propose two authentication exchange schemes which combine public key-based mutual authentication with a Diffie-Hellman key derivation exchange. The security of key exchange of the proposed schemes depends on the discrete logarithm problem. The ,securtly of the etity authentication depends on that of the signature mechanism to be used in the proposed scheme. In comparisun with the Kerberos, X.509 exchanges, and ISO 3-way authentication protocol, the proposed schemes are not only simple and efficient. but also are resistant to the full range of replay and interceptiun attacks.

  • This paper deals in the study of the estimation of the parameters of Erlang distribution based on rank set sampling and some of its modifications. Here we considered Maximum Likelihood (ML) and the Bayesian technique to estimate the shape and scale parameter of Erlang distribution based on RSS and its some modifications such as ERSS, MRSS, and MRSSu. The derivation for unknown parameters of Erlang distribution is well presented using normal approximation to the asymptotic distribution of ML estimators. But due to the complexity involves in the integral, the Bayes estimator of unknown parameters is obtained using MCMC method. Further, we compared the MSE of estimation in different sampling schemes with different set sizes and cycle size. A real-life data application is also given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, modal effective mass for asymmetric fluid-structure interaction system is defined and equations for its calculation is derived. To establish consistency, modal effective mass in symmetric structure only system is briefly reviewed, followed by a definition of the modal effective mass in asymmetric system. The equations for calculating modal effective mass in asymmetric system are derived by utilizing the properties of left and right eigenvectors. To simplify the equations, the assumption is made that the mass matrix is only affected by the fluid. The simplified equation is then compared to the equation already used in ANSYS. Finally, the validity of the modal effective mass definition and derivation in this paper is demonstrated through a simple example.

  • A HEVC-compatible 3D video coding method (3D-HEVC) has been recently developed as an extension of the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard. In order to efficiently deal with the multi-view video plus depth (MVD) format, 3D-HEVC exploits an inter-component prediction which allows the prediction between texture and depth map images in addition to a temporal prediction used in the conventional single layer video coding such as H.264/AVC and HEVC. The performance of the inter-component prediction is normally affected by the accuracy of the disparity vector, and thus it is important to have an accurate disparity vector used for the inter-component prediction. This paper, therefore, introduces a disparity derivation method and inter-component algorithms using the disparity vector for the efficient 3D video coding. Simulation results show that the 3D-HEVC provides higher coding performance compared with the simulcast approach using HEVC and the simple multi-view extension (MH-HEVC).

  • Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) distribution is recommended for flood frequency and extreme rainfall distribution in many country. L-moment method is the most common estimation procedure for the GEV distribution. In this study, the relationships between the cross-site correlations between extreme events and the cross-correlation of estimators of L-moment ratios (L-moment Coefficient of Variation (L-CV) and L-moment Coefficient of Skewness (L-CS)) for data generated from GEV distribution were derived by Monte Carlo simulation. Those relationships were fit to the simple power function. In this Monte Carlo simulation, GEV+ distribution were employed wherein unrealistic negative values were excluded. The simple power models provide accurate description of the relationships between cross-correlation of data and cross-correlation of L-moment ratios. Estimated parameters and accuracies of the power functions were reported for different GEV distribution parameters combinations. Moreover, this study provided a description about regional regression approach using Generalized Least Square (GLS) regression method which require the cross-site correlation among L-moment estimators. The relationships derived in this study allow regional GLS regression analyses of both L-CV and L-CS estimators that correctly incorporate the cross-correlation among GEV L-moment estimators.

  • The computation of normal depth is very important for the design of channel and the analysis of water flow. Drainage pipe generally has the shape of curvature like circular or U-type, which is different from artificial triangular or rectangular channel. In this case, the computation of normal depth or the derivation of equations is very difficult because the change of hydraulic radius and area versus depth is not simple. If the ratio of the area to the diameter, or the hydraulic radius to the diameter of pipe is expressed as the water depth to the diameter of pipe by power law, however, the process of computing normal depth becomes relatively simple, and explicit equations can be obtained. In the present study, developed are the explicit normal depth equations for circular and U-type pipes, and the normal depth equation associated with Hagen (Manning) equation and friction factor equation of smooth turbulent flow by power law is also proposed because of its wide usage in engineering design.

  • Cyclic Codes can be used for burs(or time slot) synchronization as well as error detection as that the overhead bits of the burst, which would be nessary to seperate burst synchronization and error detection systems, may be eliminated. In this paper a new method for combined burst synchronization and error detection is proposed which requires CRC decoding once only, while the previous method which inspects channel error after searching for burst synchronization requeires CRC decoding twice. The proposed method has the advantage of simple implementation and reducing processing time over the previous one, still showing the same detection perfdormance. It may occur that a burst different from the actually transmitted one is falsely accepted in the presence of channel errors. The exact expression for the false acceptance probability is newly presented through a simple derivation basied on the fact that it is determined by channel errors but not by detection methods.

  • Vegetation canopy plays an important role in $CO_2$/$H_2$O exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere by controlling leaf stomata. In this study, rice (Oryza sativa L.), a staple crop in Asia was investigated to formulate its single leaf model of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance. Photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were measured with a portable infrared gas analyzer system. Other plant and meteorological variables were also measured. To evaluate empirical constants in this biochemical leaf model, nonlinear least squares technique was used. The maximum catalytic activity of enzyme and the maximum rate of electron transport were $ 100\mu$$m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$ and $140 \mu$㏖ m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ (@ 35$^{\circ}C$), respectively. The empirical constants, m and b, associated with stomatal conductance model were 9.7 and $0.06 m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$ , respectively. On a leaf scale, agreements between the modeled and the measured values of photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were on average within 20%, and the simulation of diurnal variation was also satisfactory On a canopy scale, the Simple Biosphere model(SiB2) was tested using the derived parameters. The modeled energy fluxes were compared against the micrometeorologically measured fluxes over a rice canopy. Agreements between the modeled and the measured values of net radiation, sensible heat and latent heat fluxes, and $CO_2$ flux (i.e., net canopy photosynthesis) were on average within 25%.

  • Determining blood loss [100% - RBV (%)] is challenging in the management of haemorrhagic shock. We derived an equation estimating RBV (%) via serial haematocrits (Hct1, Hct2) by fixing infused crystalloid fluid volume (N) as [0.015 × body weight (g)]. Then, we validated it in vivo. Mathematically, the following estimation equation was derived: RBV (%) = 24k / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1]. For validation, non-ongoing haemorrhagic shock was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats by withdrawing 20.0%-60.0% of their total blood volume (TBV) in 5.0% intervals (n = 9). Hct1 was checked after 10 min and normal saline N cc was infused over 10 min. Hct2 was checked five minutes later. We applied a linear equation to explain RBV (%) with 1 / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1]. Seven rats losing 30.0%-60.0% of their TBV suffered shock persistently. For them, RBV (%) was updated as 5.67 / [(Hct1 / Hct2) -1] + 32.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] of the slope: 3.14-8.21, p = 0.002, R2 = 0.87). On a Bland-Altman plot, the difference between the estimated and actual RBV was 0.00 ± 4.03%; the 95% CIs of the limits of agreements were included within the pre-determined criterion of validation (< 20%). For rats suffering from persistent, non-ongoing haemorrhagic shock, we derived and validated a simple equation estimating RBV (%). This enables the calculation of blood loss via information on serial haematocrits under a fixed N. Clinical validation is required before utilisation for emergency care of haemorrhagic shock.

  • This paper presents a new control algorithm for dynamic control of a unicycle robot. The unicycle robot motion consists of a pitch that is controlled by an in-wheel motor and a roll that is controlled by a reaction wheel pendulum. The unicycle robot doesn't have any actuator for a yaw axis control, which makes the derivation of the dynamics relatively simple. The Euler-Lagrange equation is applied to derive the dynamic equations of the unicycle robot to implement the dynamic speed control of the unicycle robot. To achieve the real time speed control of the unicycle robot, the sliding mode control and LQ regulator are utilized to guarantee the stability while maintaining the desired speed tracking performance. In the roll controller, the sigmoid-function based sliding mode controller has been adopted to minimize the chattering by the switching function. The LQR controller has been implemented for the pitch control to drive the unicycle robot to follow the desired velocity trajectory in real time using the state variables of pitch angle, angular velocity, angle and angular velocity of the wheel. The control performance of the two control systems form a single dynamic model has been demonstrated by the real experiments.
