Synthesis and Property of Pyrene-Naphthalene Diimide-Pyrene Triad (Pyrene-Naphthalene Diimide-Pyrene Triad의 합성 및 물성에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, we presented a newly synthesized pyrene-naphthalene diimide(NDI)-pyrene triad. The optical and structural properties were examined using various characterization techniques. A donor-acceptor-donor triad molecule exhibited a strong charge transfer, though there existed neither intramolecular nor intermolecular hydrogen bonding sites, due to the formation of preferential complementary complex between pyrene and NDI. Powder XRD measurement revealed a sharp and distinctive X-ray patterns, indicating the presence of microcrystalline-like structure. POM images showed anisotropic fingerprint texture similar to that of cholesteric phase, and SEM images showed numerous columnar structures with length of 1 to $10{\mu}m$. Above observation clearly demonstrated that ${\pi}$-complementary NDI-pyrene interactions in the traid was strong enough to form columnar aggregates in the long range.

Development of A Cam Type High-speed Transplanting Mechanism (캠식 고속 식부장치의 개발)

  • A can type high-speed transplanting mechanism was developed. The mechanism consists of a cam and an epicycle gear train with one sun gear in the middle and four planet gears in a row but symmetric with respect to the sun gear. Two planting knives are pivoted on the two outer gears. When sun gear rotates with a constant velocity the planting knife rotates also with a constant velocity. This constant motion of the transplanting knife is accelerated partially by a cam fixed in the gear housing so that the locus of the planting knife becomes similar to that generated by a crank-type transplanting mechanism. This cam-type transplanting mechanism can solve the problems associated with the rotary-type transplanting mechanisms. The mechanism was designed with an aid of computer simulation and proved applicable to high speed transplanters by its mock-up model. The design process of the mechanism was presented and dynamic analysis was also carried out to show the advantages of the mechanism over the rotary type high-speed planting mechanism.

  • In order to evaluate physiological responses and comfort sensation of the developed thermoregulating textile material, polyester knit fabric was treated with phase change material (PCM) microcapsules by printing. Ten male subjects wearing an experimental best with and without PCMs were seated for 20 minutes, then exercised for 20 minutes, and then seated for 30 minutes in the chamber which was controlled under the temperatures of 20$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$5%R.H. The subject's skin temperature, microclimate inside garment and comfort sensation of two experimental bests were compared one another. As a result, the rectal temperature, skin temperature and mean skin temperature were similar in the two groups, and the subjects were not able to perceive the differences in comfort of the two experimental bests. However, the effect of PCM microcapsule could be seen from microclimate temperature and humidity. The microclimate temperature of the PCM garment at chest was significantly higher during exercise. The microclimate humidity of the PCM garment at chest was significantly lower during exercise and rest.

Recycling of Shingle Waste for Pavement Asphalt Concrete (도로포장용 아스콘으로 슁글의 재활용)

  • Recycling of asphalt including shingle is much important for economic aspects such as a decrease of treatment cost. This research was carried out in order to process the recycled shingle to asphalt concrete which is a pavement material. Pure asphalt and the mixture of recycled asphalt were tested in terms of the thermal characteristics, viscosity, and penetration. DSC analysis indicates that the thermal characteristics of separate shingle showed similar properties regardless of processing conditions. Melting of asphalt separated from shingle occurred at $170^{\circ}C$. The viscosity and penetration of the 1~5 wt% of mixed recycling asphalt and raw material asphalt are suitable for the pavement material standard.

Heat Transfer Analysis for $NO_2$ Micro Gas Sensor Fabricated by MEMS Technology (MEMS 공정으로 제작한 $NO_2$ 마이크로 가스센서의 열전달 해석)

  • A flat type $NO_2$ micro gas sensor was fabricated by MEMS technology. In order to heat up gas sensing material such as $WO_3$ to a target temperature, a micro hotplate was built on the gas sensor. The temperature distribution of micro gas sensor was analyzed by a CFD program, FLUENT. The results showed that the temperature of silicon wafer base was almost similar to that of the room temperature, which indicates that the heat generated at the micro hotplate heated up effectively the sensing material and its thermal isolation was kept. The uniformity of temperature on the sensing material can be improved by modifying the shape of micro hotplate.

Extended Compliance Solution of ESET Specimen for Thermal fatigue Crack Growth Test (열피로 균열성장시험을 위한 ESET 시편의 확장된 컴플라이언스 해)

  • An eccentrically-loaded single edge crack tension specimen (ESET) is similar to a compact tension(CT) specimen loaded in tension-tension. The standard ESET specimen exhibits advantages over other types of cracked specimen, such as n, single-edge crack, and middle-crack tension specimen. The details of ESET specimen configuration, test procedure, and calculations are described in ASTM E647 standard. However, a difficulty in attaching COD gage to the knife-edge on the front foe of the specimen can be found when the size of ESET specimen is small for rapid cooling and heating in thermal fatigue testing. The finite element analysis is performed for the ESET specimen with projected knife-edge on the front foe and a crack-length-compliance equation is suggested for the new specimen configuration. Calibration test are conducted with 347 stainless steel to compare the measured crack length with the calculated crack length from the suggested compliance expression. The test results showed good agreements with those of analysis.

  • Recently, the land area for many people has been limited because of industrialization and modernization in Korea. The large-scale constructions like the reclamation development projects have been progressed to resolve this problem mentioned above. Therefore, as many of the usefulconstruction materials as possible are needed to perform the large-scale construction projects. Many studies for the utilization of pond ash which has a similar characteristic of sand have been conducted and there has been often occurred many structural problems on roadbed in winter. Therefore, the characteristics of the freezing and thawing for Controlled Low-Strength Material (CLSM) using pond ash were analyzed and evaluated by unconfined compressive strength test in this study. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that new CLSM using pond ash with cement (8.2% by weight)was able to stand for the freezing and thawing behavior.

  • Among those various facilities attached to the school building, the Auditorium is being utilized for not only the Exercise Activity but also for many purposes such as Culture, Public Performance, Education, Assembly and so on. In order to utilize in maximum such function of the multipurpose auditorium, an adequate acoustic design with regard to the Clarity of Voice and Music in accordance with its use-purpose should be accompanied. However, as the most part of multipurpose auditoriums is designed with high ceiling-height by its peculiar character, and due to use of the material of strong reflexibility, it is appearing the defect that excessively exposes the reverberation of sound. In order to make out an optimal acoustic condition within the broad space such as an auditorium, the acoustic characteristics must be considered from the planning stage, however in the most case, those acoustic problems are being settled through the repair works after construction. On such viewpoint, this Study intends to analyze the room acoustic characteristics from the planning stage using a computer simulation based on the blueprint of multipurpose auditorium in S High School located in Gwangju. It is considered that the material analyzed in such way could be practically applied as a fundamental material enables to improve the acoustic capability when a similar broad space is planned hereafter.

Wet Etch Characteristics of Magnetic Thin Films (자성 박막의 습식 식각 특성)

  • The wet etching characteristics of magnetic materials such as NiFe and CoFe were investigated in terms of etch rate and etch profile by using variouus etching solutions (etchants). Among the various etching solutions, HNO$_3$, HCl, and H$_2$SO$_4$were selected for the etching of magnetic materials and showed distinct results. In the case of NiFe films, faster etch rate were obtained with HNO$_3$solution. When NiFe films ere etched with HCl solution, white etch residues were found on the surface of etched films. From FEAES analysis of these etch residues, they were proved to be by-product from the reaction of NiFe with Cl element. CoFe thin films showed the similar trend to the case of NiFe films. They were etched fast in HNO$_3$ solution while Chl solution represented slow etching. The etch profiles of CoFe films showed smooth etch profile but revealed the partial etching around the patterns in HNO$_3$solution of relatively high concentration. It was observed that the etched surface was clean and smooth, and that white etch residues were also remained on the etched films.

Surface Coating and Electrochemical Properties of LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 Polyaniline Composites as an Electrode for Li-ion Batteries

  • A new cathode material based on Li$Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.15}Al_{0.05}O_2$ (LNCA)/polyaniline (Pani) composite was prepared by in situ self-stabilized dispersion polymerization in the presence of LNCA. The materials were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Electrochemical properties including galvanostatic charge-discharge ability, cyclic voltammetry (CV), capacity, cycling performance, and AC impedance were measured. The synthesized LNCA/Pani had a similar particle size to LNCA and exhibited good electrochemical properties at a high C rate. Pani (the emeraldine salt form) interacts with metal-oxide particles to generate good connectivity. This material shows good reversibility for Li insertion in discharge cycles when used as the electrode of lithium ion batteries. Therefore, the Pani coating is beneficial for stabilizing the structure and reducing the resistance of the LNCA. In particular, the LNCA/Pani material has advantageous electrochemical properties.
