Objectives : The authors analyzed the surgical series of Cushing's disease to evaluate the proper treatment policy and to verify the possible prognostic factors. Material and Methods : Of 50 patients diagnosed as Cushing's disease and operated at Department of Neurosurgery of our institute between 1988 and 1999, 48 patients with available medical records were analyzed retrospectively. Mean follow-up period was 48 months(3 to 109 months). Preoperative diagnosis was made after evaluating the patients with multiple-stage endocrinological studies and 31 selective patients were evaluated with inferior petrosal sinus sampling(IPSS). Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and/or high resolution computerized tomography(CT) was done in all patients. A total of 51 transsphenoidal adenomectomy(TSA) were performed including 3 revision for initial surgical failure cases. Remission was decided on the basis of both endocrinological criteria and clinical status. Radiation and/or ketoconazole therapy were applied to failed cases. For the verification of prognostic factors, the authors evaluated the statistical significance of multiple variables over remission rate by chi-square test. Result : Sensitivity of IPSS for central localization was 93.5% which was better than that of MRI(87.5%). But for lateralization, it was 72.4% for IPSS versus MRI 90.5%. Success rate of TSA was 82%(42/51) and recurrence rate was 9%(4/48). When including adjuvant treatments for surgically failed cases, overall success rate was 89.6% and all of 3 reoperated cases(TSA) due to recurrence were successful. Significant complication occurred in 7.8%(4/51) after TSA including hypopituitarism, diabetes insipidus, and visual loss. Non-existence of tumor in MRI and prolonged symptom duration(>3 years) were significant prognostic factors. Conclusion : TSA can be considered as initial treatment for Cushing's disease. In surgically failed cases, multiple treatment modality may improve the overall outcome and repeated TSA for recurrent cases seem to provide similar success.
The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), where the southeast and northeast trade winds converge, is the effective climatological barrier that separates the southern and northern hemispheres in dust budget. Asian and N. American dusts dominate in fhe Pacific north of the ITCZ, while Central and S. American dust prevails south of the ITCZ. In order to understand the nature of latitudinal and depth-related variations of mineral composition in terms of relative position to the ITCZ, deep-sea core sediments were collected from $9^{\circ}N$ to $17^{\circ}N$ at a $2^{\circ}N$ interval along the $131.5^{\circ}W$ meridian and analyzed for mineral composition. The amount of illite in surface sediments decreases gradually from 65% at $17^{\circ}N\;to\;31^{\circ}N$ to 31% at 9f. In contrast, smectite increases from 11% to 56% southward. The observed mineralogical variation toward the ITCZ is attributed to the increased supply of volcaniclastic material transported via the southeast trade winds from the Central and South America source regions. Smectite-illite transition, a phenomenon that the amount of smectite increases over illite, occurs at around $10^{\circ}N$, the northern margin of the ITCZ. This result indicates that the change in latitudinal position of the ITCZ in geologic past could be recorded as a form of smectite-illite transition in deep-sea cores. The studied cores show down-core variation of mineral composition from illite-rich at the surface to smectite-rich clay suit at depths, similar to the latitudinal variation. The smectite-illite transitions observed in these cores are likely the records of changes in latitudinal position of the ITCZ. The depth and age of smectite-illite transition is getting shallower and younger toward equator, implying that the ITCZ was located farther north during late Tertiary and has shifted southward to the present position of $5^{\circ}N-10^{\circ}N$.

The subsurface environment of the root zone area can set the stae for "do or die" of the turfgrass plant. The good condition of the greens is verified by their physical properties. Therefore, this study was carried to evaluate on the existing green of Hwasan C.C. by undisturbed soil Core Anaysis. We completed the ISTRC SYSTEM BenchMarking of the undisturbed core samples taken from Green #1, Green #5, Green #9-"Best" area, and Green #9-"Stressed" area for the Hwasan C.C.. It was also our understanding that the greens were in "good" to "very good" conditioni. THe exception might be Green #9-"Stress" area, which was the stressed area. The stressed area was confined to a ridge across Green #9. The organic content test results comfirmed the development of organic layering in depth 0-2.5cm. For the amount of compaction in the upper root zones and te development of the green's respective organic layers, the infiltration rates were high in Green #1, Green #5, and Green #9 "Stressed" area. The depicted aerificaton hole might be the probable cause of the relatively high infiltraton rate. Green #9-"Best" area had a tested infiltration rate of 18.75cm/hr. Either this area had not been aerified, or the undisturbed sample did not contain a aerification cavity. The water retention capacity of the undisturbed samples was good. When the greens were first constructed, the original root zone mix had been relatively low water retention properties. And the bulk density and the porosity of the undisturbed samples were good. In the result, all the greens were similar except for the infiltration. Thus, we supposed that Green #9-"Stressed" area might be ainly influenced by the amount of irrigation water and the configuration of the green's surface. There had been a reduction in the amount of irrigation water as the water retention capacity in the greens was promoted. Especially, it had gradually become more of a problem as the green had matured in Green #9-"Stressed" area. Because Green #9-"Stressed" area was a ridge area. The reduction in the amount of irrigation water might be the probable cause of the stress in Green #9-"Stressed" area. Our final observation related to the soil texture and the particle size distribution of the sand. Though and sand contant of all the tested greens were good, the gravel content of them exceeded ISTRC Guidelines. In particle size distribution of the sand, the very coarse and the coarse content of all the tested greens exceeded, but the rest was insufficient. The stability is a function of the material retained on the 0.25mm mesh screen. But, the content of all the tested greens was very insufficient. Though all the greens was serviceable, the coarse root zone sands, such as the sand in the tested greens, tended to be "unstable". Thus, we recommend using a topdressing/aerification sand which should be more in line with ISTRC/USGA Guidelines.;unstable". Cenosphere particles of different fly ash formed at the pulverized coal power plant were hollow sphere or filled with small particles inside solid particles. And size was relatively larger than other fly ash particles as well as specific gravity was small to suspend in the water. In this paper, it was demonstrated to contain a variety of morphological particle type, and the physical and chemical properties related to the cenosphere and fly ash particles. Furthermore it was estimated the possibility to reuse the cenosphere particles on the base of cenosphere properties. Cenosphere formation resulted from melting of mineral inclusion in coal, and then gas generation inside the molten droplet. As the aluminosilicate particle was progressively heated, a molten surface layer developed around the solid core. Further heating leaded to cause the formation of fine particles at the core. The mass median diameter(MMD) of cenosphere particles was $123.11{\mu}m$ and the range of size distribution was $100{\sim}200{\mu}m$ with single modal. It was represented that specific density was $0.67g/cm^3$ fineness was $1135g/cm^3$. The chemical components of cenosphere were similar to other fly ash including $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, but the amount of the chemical component was different respectively. In the case of fly ash, $SiO_2$ concentration was 54.75%, and $Al_2O_3$ concentration was 21.96%, so this two components was found in 76.71% of the total concentration. But in the case of cenosphere, it was represented that $SiO_2$ concentration was 59.17% and $Al_2O_3$ concentration was 30.16%, so this two components was found in 89.33% of the total concentration. Glassy component formed by the aluminosilicate was high in the cenosphere, so that it was suitable to use insulating heat material.

In this study, abiotic transformation of 1-naphthol(1-NP) via oxidative-coupling reaction and its reaction products were investigated in the presence of Mn oxides. The reaction products were characterized for their relative polarity using solvent extraction experiment and reverse-phase HPLC, and for structure using CCMS and LC/MS, and for absorption characteristics using UV-Vis spectrometry. The reaction products present in aqueous phase were more polar than parent naphthol and comprised of 1,4-naphthoquinon(1,4-NPQ) and oligomers such as dimers and trimers. Hydrophilic component present in water phase after solvent$(CH_2Cl_2)$ extractions was identified as naphthol polymerized products having molecular weight(m/z) ranging from 400 to 2,000, and showed similar UV-Vis. absorption characteristics to that of foil fulvic acid. Transformation of 1,4-NPQ, which is non-reactive to Mn oxide, to the polymerized products via cross-coupling reaction in the presence of 1-NP was also verified. In this experimental conditions(20.5 mg/L, 1-NP, 2.5 g/L $MnO_2$, pH 5), the transformation of 1-NP into the oligomers and polymerized products were about 83% of initial 1-NP concentrations, and more than 30% of the reaction products was estimated to be water insoluble fractions, not extracted by $H_2O$ methanol. Results from this study suggest that Mn oxide-mediated treatment of naphthol contaminated soils can achieve risk reduction through the formation of oligomers md polymer precipitation.

As IT technology develops rapidly and the personal dissemination of smart devices increases, video material is especially used as a medium of information transmission among audiovisual materials. Video as an information service content has become an indispensable element, and it has been used in various ways such as unidirectional delivery through TV, interactive service through the Internet, and audiovisual library borrowing. Especially, in the Internet environment, the information provider tries to reduce the effort and cost for the processing of the provided information in view of the video service through the smart device. In addition, users want to utilize only the desired parts because of the burden on excessive network usage, time and space constraints. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the usability of the video by automatically classifying, summarizing, and indexing similar parts of the contents. In this paper, we propose a method of automatically segmenting the shots that make up videos by analyzing the contents and characteristics of language education videos and indexing the detailed contents information of the linguistic videos by combining visual features. The accuracy of the semantic based shot segmentation is high, and it can be effectively applied to the summary service of language education videos.

Despite the many advantages of modular housing, low preference for modular housing for consumers who are familiar with RC structure leads to high construction cost of modular housing. The cost of modular buildings is about 130% of that of RC structures, so it is urgent to secure economical efficiency of modular buildings. Therefore, in this study, after calculating the savings amount of modular housing by type of construction work, economic analysis was conducted from a long - term perspective. In order to carry out the research, the authors compiled and analyzed the material cost, labor cost, and expenses incurred by each type of work by reclassifying the statement of the modular housing into the factory production and the site installation. After that, Pareto diagrams were created to find a core work that is included in the cost ratio of about 80%, and selected it as a cost reduction subject. Based on the assumption that the market size of domestic modular housing is similar to the level of modular advanced countries such as Japan and European countries, six cost reduction methods were set up that reflects the characteristics of the modular construction method and used for the expert interviews. Cost saving potentials in percentage from the interview were converted to the amount of savings that can be achieved by each type of method when applying the method. Finally, the findings of the study are expected to suggest long-term directions for technical development for modular construction and cost savings.

The TFT-LCD industry is a kind of large-scale industrial Giant Microelectronics device industry and has a similar semiconductor process technology. Wet etching forms a relatively large proportion of the entire TFT process, but the number of published research papers on this topic is limited. The main reason for this is that the components of the etchant, in which the reaction takes place, are confidential and rarely publicized. Aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu), which have been used in recent years for the manufacture of large area LCDs, are very difficult materials to process using wet etching. Cu, a low-resistance material, can only be used in the wet etching process, and is used as a substitute for Al due to its high speed etching, low failure rate, and low power consumption. Further, the abnormal reaction of hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), which is used as an etching solution, requires additional piping and electrical safety devices. This paper proposes a method of minimizing the damage to the plant in the case of adverse reactions, though it cannot limit the adverse reaction of hydrogen peroxide. In recent years, there have been many cases in which aluminum etching equipment has been changed to copper. This paper presents a countermeasure against abnormal reactions by implementing safety PLC with a high safety grade.
This study investigates the temperature change and thermal conductivity for the braking disc of the railway vehicle due to the types of train and service conditions. The temperature change was measured by non-contact Infrared thermometers. Average temperature was measured between $79.32^{\circ}C$ and $104.46^{\circ}C$ due to types of train and service section. In the same service section, the surface temperatures of Saemaul train were higher than Mugungwha train; the reason might have been the average service speed of Saemaul train (83km/h) was higher than Mugungwha train (107km/h), and the weight was similar 39t (Mugungwha) and 39.3t (Saemaul). But the maximum surface temperature was measured on the Mugungwha train; however the difference was not too big with the maximum temperature of Saemaul train. Also, the disc surface temperatures were changed due to the material of lining; metal and non-asbestos, on the same train and the same service section. In addition. the thermal conductivity was tested the thermal conductivities were increased by the increasing of the temperature. The change is too big between $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$. But each average value is small. and the mechanical property change is very low. As a result, we conclude that this disc is suitable for usage between $100^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$.
Ahn Minyoung's editorial work of gajib(songbook) was the work for realization of artistic ability which had been a pursuit for his life. According to recent excavation of 'Seungpyeonggok' that is another gajib editted by Ah Minyoung, it is found that his editorial work of gajib was began in earlier days. 'Seungpyeonggok' composes 12 pieces of works, and it arranged each piece of work with melody of gagok, respectively. For the size, it is evaluated to 'the smallest gajib' among the left gajib at present. This gajib was composed to celebrate the gathering of Seungpyeonggye which led by Ahn Minyoung. There is Preface which was written by Ahn Minyoung, and the content of preface could be similar to the one in his another gajib 'Geumokchongbu' except some omission, variation, or alternation of content and phrase partly to fit for the character of each gajib. The names of Seungpyeonggye's members are shown in the preface of 'Seungpyeonggok', so it is important material for studying the appearances and activities of the members at that time. The purpose and intention of Seungpyeonggye's gathering was clarified in the preface of 'Seungpyeonggok' was composed to the repertoir of gagok sung at the celebration party. All the collected works are related to Daewongun directly or indirectly in their contents. Because the celebration party of Seungpyeonggye was designed for Daewongun, all the contents are dedication for Dasewongun easily. And the works of 12-pieces previously discussed were found as playing repertoir, 'type of pyeon-ga' which was composed to 8-pieces and 4-pieces identically.
