  • Poly(1', 4'-phenylene-1", 4"-(2"-(2""-ethyl-hexyloxy)) phenylene-1",4"-phenylene-2,5-oxadiazolyl) (PPEPPO) was synthesized and its electrochemical characteristics was investigated as electrode material in redox supercapacitor. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) shows there was scarcely a redox reaction and further suggests n-doping is difficult to occur in this system. However, the discharge curve between 3.0 to 0.01 V is continuously decreased like a straight line, similar to the discharge pattern of EDLC. The initial specific discharge capacitance is ~6.4 F/g, while the specific capacitance of 1000th cycle is ~0.1 F/g. The PPEPPO can be used as the electrode of supercapacitor, emissive material, as well as charge-transporting material in polymer LED.ansporting material in polymer LED.

  • This paper deals with the effects of counterpart materials on the wear behavior of thermally sprayed STS316 coatings. STS316 powders were flame-sprayed onto a carbon steel substrate. Dry sliding wear tests were performed using the applied loads of 15 N. AISI52100, $Al_2O_3$, $ZrO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$ balls were used as counterpart materials. Wear behavior of STS316 coatings against different counterpart materials were studied using a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the wear behavior of thermally sprayed STS316 coatings strongly depends on the type of counterpart material. Dominant wear mechanism was similar for all studied materials as failure of adhesion film except for Si3N4 used as counterpart material. In the case of Si3N4 used as counterpart material, dominant wear mechanism was abrasion.

  • An engineered barrier system (EBS) for the deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) is composed of a disposal canister, buffer material, gap-filling material, and backfill material. As the buffer fills the empty space between the disposal canisters and the near-field rock mass, heat energy from the canisters is released to the surrounding buffer material. It is vital that this heat energy is rapidly dissipated to the near-field rock mass, and thus the thermal conductivity of the buffer is a key parameter to consider when evaluating the safety of the overall disposal system. Therefore, to take into consideration the sizeable amount of heat being released from such canisters, this study investigated the thermal conductivity of Korean compacted bentonites and its variation within a temperature range of 25 ℃ to 80-90 ℃. As a result, thermal conductivity increased by 5-20% as the temperature increased. Furthermore, temperature had a greater effect under higher degrees of saturation and a lower impact under higher dry densities. This study also conducted a regression analysis with 147 sets of data to estimate the thermal conductivity of the compacted bentonite considering the initial dry density, water content, and variations in temperature. Furthermore, the Kriging method was adopted to establish an uncertainty metamodel of thermal conductivity to verify the regression model. The R2 value of the regression model was 0.925, and the regression model and metamodel showed similar results.

  • In the classical stability investigation of rectangular plates the classical thin plate theory (CPT) is often employed, so omitting the transverse shear deformation effect. It seems quite clear that this procedure is not totally appropriate for the investigation of moderately thick plates, so that in the following the first shear deformation theory proposed by Meksi et al. (2015), that permits to consider the transverse shear deformation influences, is used for the stability investigation of simply supported isotropic rectangular plates subjected to uni-axial and bi-axial compression loading. The obtained results are compared with those of CPT and, for rectangular plates under uniaxial compression, a novel direct formula, similar to the conventional Bryan's expression, is found for the Euler stability stress. The accuracy of the present model is also ascertained by comparing it, with model proposed by Piscopo (2010).

  • A zeolite material with a Si/Al molar ratio of 1.2 was synthesized by changing the NaOH/CFA ratio of coal fly ash (CFA) via a fusion/hydrothermal reaction in the HD thermal power plant. The change in the crystal structure of the zeolite was confirmed using XRD and SEM, and the ammonia adsorption capacities of the synthesized zeolitic materials and a commercial zeolite (Na-A zeolite) were analyzed via an ammonia temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) process. The SEM and XRD results revealed out the zeolitic materials from the coal fly ash maintained a hexagonal Linde-type crystal structure similar to that of Na-A zeolite, but the crystallinity of the synthesized zeolitic material was reduced due to impurities. The NH3 adsorption capacity, determined from the NH3-TPD analysis of was 1.122 mmol/g of the synthesized zeolitic material, which was lower than the NH3 adsorption capacity of the Na-A zeolite.

  • In this work, a novel combined logarithmic, secant and tangential 2D and quasi-3D refined higher order shear deformation theory is proposed to examine the buckling analysis of simply supported uniform functionally graded plates under uniaxial and biaxial loading. The proposed formulations contain a reduced number of variables compared to others similar solutions. The combined function employed in this study ensures automatically the zero-transverse shear stresses at the free surfaces of the structure. Various models of the material distributions are considered (linear, quadratic, cubic inverse quadratic and power-law). The differentials stability equations are derived via virtual work principle with including the stretching effect. The Navier's approach is applied to solve the governing equations which satisfying the boundary conditions. Several comparative and parametric studies are performed to illustrates the validity and efficacity of the proposed model and the various factors influencing the critical buckling load of thick FG plate.

  • The intercellular material was extracted from rice leaf tissue. The quantitative tests of protein and soluble carbohydrate, and activity of peroxidase, showed differences between tissue extract and intercellular material. Also electrophoretic patterns of peroxidase and esterase isozymes were not similar between them. It indicated that the intercellular material which was extracted, was not the mixture of cellular materials.

  • The friction welding of Zr-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) rods and tubes to similar BMGs, and to crystalline metals were performed. An infrared thermal imager (FLIR-Thermal Cam SC-2000) was used to measure the temperature distribution at joining interface of the specimens during friction welding. All BMGs adopted in this study showed a successful friction joining to similar BMG. The shape of the protrusion formed at the weld interface were examined. In order to characterize the friction weld interface, the micrographic observation and the X-ray diffraction analysis on the weld cross-section were carried out. The obtained results were discussed based on the temperature distribution measured at the weld interface A successful joining of the BMGs to crystalline metals could be obtained for certain pairs of the material combination through the precise control of the friction condition. The residual strength after dissimilar friction welding of BMG was evaluated by the four-point bending test and compared with the cases of friction welding to similar materials.
