  • Silver nitrate colored method that measure easily penetration depth of chloride ion has been used, recently. But, characteristics of silver nitrate colored method hasn't examined well. Therefore, we are aim to examine characteristics of colored method. According to experiment results, when the colored method was applied in concrete, it is reasonable that $AgNO_3$ solution more than 0.05N concentration was sprayed. Chloride concentration difference in colored parts was about 20ppm when $AgNO_3$ of two concentration (0.05N, 0.1N) in concrete was sprayed.

  • The developing agent is the materials which first acts on silver grain and make it into metallic silver by reducing reaction. There are several types in developing agent, and according to Lumiere-Andresen principle, substitution product which has amino or hydroxyl group in benzen nucleus has a developing power, but all reduing substances are not in used. In the developing effect, not only the role of developing agent but also that of assistant materials are important. But in this work, we have studied effect, change by lith developing agent which require high contrast image. We made an developing experiment after having manufactured developing solution used hydroquinone and another developing agents like chlorohydroquinone, pyrocatechol and pyrogallol as developing agent. And we added that did in addition of diethanolamine and ascorbic acid, and then we examined the possibility of use.

  • In this study, We reviewed the solution methods (for the heuristic and optimization method) for the single-item dynamic lot-sizing problem, and improved the efficiency (speed and optimality) of the conventional heuristic method by utilizing the inventory decomposition property. The iventory decomposition property decomposes the given original problem into several independent subproblems without violating the optimality conditions. Then we solve each decomposed subproblems by using the conventional heuristics such as LTC, LUC, Silver-Meal etc. For testing the efficiency of the proposed decomposition method, we adopted the data sets given in Kaimann, Berry and Silver-Meal. The computational results show that the suggested problem solving framework results in some promising effects on the computation time and the degree of optimality.

  • The influence of flow rate has been investigated on the treatment efficiency of continuous cycling electrolytic process employing artificial and actual photographic wastewater which containing silver ion. For artificial wastewater, the treatment efficiency of process was found to rise ca. three times when the flow rate of wastewater was increased from 3 mL/min to 15 mL/min. The process efficiency was doubled under the same condition regarding actual wastewater. The effect of flow rate on the treatment efficiency was observed to be altered according to the metal ionic form and solution composition. The coefficient of mass transfer was estimated using model equation, which verified that the raised treatment efficiency at higher flow rate was due to the increased mobility of ionic species.

  • Reference electrodes are generally implemented for the purpose of monitoring the cathodic protection potentials of buried or immersed metallic structures. In the market, many types of reference electrodes are available for this purpose, such as saturated calomel, silver/silver chloride and copper/copper sulfate. These electrodes contain a porous ceramic junction plate situated in the cylindrical body bottom to permit ionic flux between the internal electrolyte (of the reference electrode) and the external electrolyte. In this work, the copper/copper sulfate reference electrode was modified by replacing the porous ceramic junction plate for a metallic platinum wire. The main purpose of this modification was to avoid the ion copper transport from coming from the inner reference electrode solution into the surrounding electrolyte, and to mitigate the copper plating on the coupon surfaces. Lab tests were performed in order to compare the performance of the two mentioned reference electrodes. We verified that the experimental errors associated with the measurements conducted with developed reference electrode would be negligible, as the platinum surface area exposed to the surrounding electrolyte and/or to the reference electrolyte are maintained as small as possible.

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), PVA/Montmorillonite (MMT), PVA/Silver (Ag), and PVA/MMT/Ag nanocomposite nanowebs were prepared by electrospinning technique in aqueous solution. In order to investigate the effect of inorganic materials on the morphology and thermal properties of PVA based nanocomposite nanowebs, experiments were performed with 5 wt.% of MMT and Ag. Field emission type scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), reflection type X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermal gravimetric analyzer were utilized to characterize nanocomposite nanowebs. TEM and XRD results show MMT and Ag were well dispersed in PVA nanowebs. Those inorganic nanoparticles enhanced thermal property of the nanocomposite nanowebs.

  • In this work, silver nanoparticles-containing polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solutions in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) were electrospun to be webs consisting of nanofibers. The inputted voltage and PAN content in the solution were fixed at 15 kV and 10 wt.% in DMF with 10 cm of tip-to-collector distance (TCD). The PAN/Ag nanofiber webs were stabilized by oxidation at 250 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 h in air and carbonized at 1000 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 h in $N_2$. The resultant diameter distribution and morphologies of the nanofibers were evaluated by scanning electron microscope analysis. The electrochemical behaviors of the nanofiber webs were also observed by cyclic voltammetry tests. It was found that the presence of silver nanoparticles in carbon nanofiber webs led to the increase of specific capacitance and the decrease of fiber diameters.

  • Background: Nano-biotechnology is recognized as offering revolutionary changes in various fields of medicine. Biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles have a wide range of applications. Materials and Methods: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were biosynthesized with an aqueous extract of Pterocladiella (Pterocladia) capillacea, used as a reducing and stabilizing agent, and characterized using UV-VIS spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infra red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive analysis (EDX). The biosynthesized AgNPs were tested for cytotoxic activity in a human hepatocellular carcinoma ($HepG_2$) cell line cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum, 1% antibiotic and antimycotic solution and 2 mM glutamine. Bacterial susceptibility to AgNPs was assessed with Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis [Gram+ve] and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli [Gram-ve]. The agar well diffusion technique was adopted to evaluate the bactericidal activity of the biosynthesized AgNPs using Ampicillin and Gentamicin as gram+ve and gram-ve antibacterial standard drugs, respectively. Results: The biosynthesized AgNPs were $11.4{\pm}3.52$ nm in diameter. FT-IR analysis showed that carbonyl groups from the amino acid residues and proteins could assist in formation and stabilization of AgNPs. The AgNPs showed potent cytotoxic activity against the human hepatocellular carcinoma ($HepG_2$) cell line at higher concentrations. The results also showed that the biosynthesized AgNPs inhibited the entire panel of tested bacteria with a marked specificity towards Bacillus subtillus. Conclusions: Cytotoxic activity of the biosynthesized AgNPs may be due to the presence of alkaloids present in the algal extract. Our AgNPs appear more bactericidal against gram-positive bacteria (B. subtillus).
