  • The objectives of this study is to investigate the optimum reaction conditions and to identify the product formula in the synthesis of a silicone/acrylic resin that curing in moisture at room temperature. By the addition polymerization of monomers, n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, and 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane. a quarter polymer was obtained. Among various initiators investigated in this study, 2.2'-azobisisobutyronitrille was found to be the most suitable initiator. The optimum reaction conditions found in this study are 70 wt% of initial solvent amount, 120 minutes of dropping time, 3 times of initiator addition, $82{\sim}105^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature, and 8 hrs of reaction time. Also, number average molecular weight of $11700{\sim}33100$ and molecular weight distribution of $1.81{\sim}3.44$ were obtained.

  • We polymerized material of AA(Acrylic acid) and BMA(butyl methacrylate) to make up for the weak points of hydrogel contact lens. The synthesis process of silicone synthesis is as follows. Acrylate-PDMS(Polydimethylsiloxane)-Urethane prepolymer was composed after Diisocynate reacted with HEMA(2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) under the catalyst and it reacted again with bis(hydroxyalkyl) terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) with high oxygen transmissibility characteristics. HEMA(2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) was used to make prepolymer that can be polymerized and the urethane was used to improve elasticity and oxygen transmissibility, copolymerization was performed with conventional hydrogel contact lens materials to make silicone hydrogel contact lens with higher oxygen transmissibility. For manufacturing of contact lens, We added BMA(Butyl methacrylate) with better elasticity and flexibility, and AA(Acrylic acid) with higher moisturizing to used contact lens materials. AIBN (Azobis2-methylpropionitrile) as initiator and EGDMA(Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylat) as crosslinking agent were used and the lens with higher oxygen transmissibility and better moisturizing were manufactured complying with basic contact lens properties, which have several combination trial of each monomer characteristics. Compounding SN which included SILICONE, HEMA, NVP and EGDMA etc was showed by swelling ratio of 9.38% and water content of 23.7%. SN was showed by swelling ratio of 9.38%, water content of 23.7% and a visible ray transmissibility of 89%. SB which added BMA in the SN was showed by swelling ratio of 12.50%, water content of 18.56% and a visible ray transmissibility of 88%. SAB which added both AA and BMA in the SN was showed by swelling ratio of 8.33%, water content of 12.93% and a visible ray transmissibility of 88%.

  • In this study, we made UV cured acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive containing silicone-urethane-acrylate (SUA) oligomer for a coating on protective film and investigated the effect of SUA oligomer content and UV-dose on adhesion properties. The results illustrated that peel strength decreases with increasing oligomer content and UV-dose, while holding power increases. The gel fractions sharply increased after UV irradiation and then remain constant with prolonged UV exposure. From peel-off test, sample S70 (70% oligomer content) shows the best peelability and removability without remaining any mark or adhesive material on the test substrate than S50 (50% oligomer content) and S60 (60% oligomer content). Sample S70 also showed a surface energy lower than $26mJ/m^2$ and a transmittance higher than 95% at UV-dose 1857 and $2270mJ/cm^2$ which met the required properties for protective film application.

  • PDMS modified epoxy resin with epoxy group (EMPDMS) was prepared from the reaction of ${\alpha},{\omega}$-aminopropylpolydimethylsiloxane and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) based epoxy resin, and PDMS modified epoxy hybrid compound (EMPDMSH) was prepared by introducing alkylesteraminopropyl alkoxy silane to EMPDMS. Their structures were characterized using FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR and $^{29}Si$-NMR. Coating materials were prepared by mixing EMPDMSH base and solvent. Physical properties of the coating materials coated on epoxy/glass fiber composite film were measured according to the content of PDMS in EMPDMSH. Contact angle of coating film was increased 30 to 71 degree. Adhesive property of coating film was 5B degree better then epoxy or acrylate coating materials, and surface roughness was decreased as increasing in EMPDMSH.

  • To prepare weather-resistant modified silane acrylic resin coatings for an architectural purpose, tetrapolymers were synthesized by radical polymerization. 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) as a silicone monomer and n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and n-butyl methacrylate as acrylic monomers were used. The composition of monomers was adjusted to fix the glass transition temperature of acrylic polymer for $20^{\circ}C$. The composition of MPTS in the synthesized polymer were varied from 10 wt% to 30 wt%. On the basis of synthesized resin amber paints were prepared and their physical properties and effects on weatherability were examined. The presence of MPTS in modified silane acrylic resins generally resulted in low molecular weight and broad molecular weight distribution, and also lowered the viscosity of the copolymers. The coated films prepared from these resins showed good and balanced properties in general. Adhesion to the substrate was outstanding in particular. Weatherability tests were carried out in three different types such as outdoor exposure, QUV, and SWO. The test results showed that the modified silane acrylic resins containing 30 wt% of MPTS had superior weathering properties.

  • In this study, a multifunctional ophthalmic lens material with an electromagnetic shielding effect, high oxygen permeability, and high water content is tested, and its applicability is evaluated. Metal oxide nanoparticles are applied to the ophthalmic lens material for vision correction to shield harmful electromagnetic waves; the pyridine group is used to improve the antibacterial effect; and silicone substituted with urethane and acrylate is employed to increase the oxygen permeability and water content. In addition, multifunctional tinted ophthalmic lens materials are studied using lens materials with an excellent antibacterial effect (2,6-difluoropyridine, 2-fluoro-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid) and functional (UV protection, high wettability) lens materials (2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone, 2-hydroxy-4-(methacryloyloxy)benzophenone). To solve problems such as air bubbles generated during the polymerization process for the manufacturing and turbidity of the lens surface, polymerization conditions in which the defect rate is minimized are determined. The results show that the polymerization temperature and time are most appropriate when they are $110^{\circ}C$ and 40 minutes, respectively. The optimum injection amount of the polymerization solution is 350 ms. The turbid phenomenon that appears in lens processing is improved by 10 to 95 % according to the test time and conditions.
