관능기화 메조포러스 실리카를 이용한 파라자일렌 흡착 특성 (Characteristics of p-Xylene Adsorption using Functionalized Mesoporous Silica)

  • 본 연구에서는 지하수 내의 BTEX 제거를 위한 흡착제로서 다양한 관능기화 메조포러스 실리카를 검토하였다. BTEX 물질로는 파라자일렌이 사용되었다. 관능기화 메조포러스 실리카는 공중합을 통해 MCM-41 기반 구조에 모노아민, 트리아민, 니트릴, 페닐, 옥틸기를 부착하여 합성되었다. 관능기화 메조포러스 실리카에서 파라자일렌 흡착 부위로 작용하는 부위는 Si-O-Si 결합, 계면활성제, 관능기인 것으로 사료된다. 관능기화 메조포러스 실리카의 자일렌 흡착능을 비교한 결과, 옥틸기를 부착한 경우에 MCM-41에 비해 자일렌 흡착능이 향상되었으며, 계면활성제로는 stearyltrimethylammonium chloride(STMACl)가 cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTMABr)에 비해 우수하였다. MCM-41을 기본 구조로, 옥틸기를 관능기로, STMACl을 계면활성제로 사용한 메조포러스 실리카는 $20^{\circ}C$에서 Langmuir model 상에서 최대 4.17 mmol/g의 최대 흡착량을 가질 것으로 평가되었으며, 이는 MCM-41에 비해 약 2.9배 높은 수치였다.

유기 리간드와 비정질 실리카겔의 상호 작용에 대한 17O 고상핵자기공명 분광분석 연구: 실리카 표면 구조 및 지각의 탈수반응에 대한 의의 (17O Solid-State NMR Study of the Effect of Organic Ligands on Atomic Structure of Amorphous Silica Gel: Implications for Surface Structure of Silica and Its Dehydration Processes in Earth's Crust)

  • 비정질 실리카겔은 Si와 O로 이루어진 가장 간단한 화합물로서, 표면에 다양한 구조의 물과 수산기, 그리고 합성과정에서 형성된 유기 리간드(ligand)를 함유하고 있어, 지권, 수권, 그리고 생물권의 상호작용을 이해하는 모델 시스템으로서 의미를 갖는다. 본 연구에서는 $^{17}O$ NMR 분광분석을 통해 비정질 실리카겔의 Si-O-Si와 Si-OH 산소 원자환경의 차이를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 $SiCl_4$의 수화반응을 통해 $^{17}O$이 집적된 비정질 실리카겔을 합성하였다. $^1H$$^{29}Si$ NMR 분광분석 결과, 비정질 실리카겔 표면에는 다양한 수소결합 세기를 가진 물과 수산기 이외에, Si-$O{\cdots}R$ 형태의 유기 리간드가 존재함을 확인하였다. 이와 같은 유기 리간드는 에탄올 또는 증류수를 이용해 비정질 실리카겔을 초음파 세척함으로써 상당부분 제거 가능하다. $^{17}O$ NMR 분광분석 결과, 짧은 펄스 길이($0.175{\mu}s$)를 이용한 $^{17}O$ NMR 스펙트럼에서 Si-O-Si와 Si-OH 산소원자 환경이 거의 구분되지 않고 나타나는 반면, 특정 실험조건($2{\mu}s$ 펄스길이)의 $^{17}O$ NMR 스펙트럼에서는 약 0 ppm에서 빠른 동역학적 특성을 가지는 Si-OH로 추정되는 피크가 관찰되었다. 이 피크는 비정질 실리카겔 표면의 유기 리간드가 제거됨에 따라 더 뚜렷하게 관찰되며, 이는 유기 리간드와 비정질 실리카의 산소원자 사이의 상호작용이 존재함을 지시한다. 이와 같은 상호작용은 비정질 실리카겔 표면의 수산기의 원자구조에 대한 정보를 제공하며, 이를 통해 규산염 지구물질의 탈수반응 기작에 대한 이해를 고양시킬 수 있다. 따라서 궁극적으로 지구물질의 탈수반응에 기인하여 일어나는 섭입대의 중간깊이(약 70~300 km)에서 일어나는 지진의 미시적인 원인에 대한 실마리를 제시할 것으로 기대된다.

Removal of Methylene Blue from Water Using Porous $TiO_2$/Silica Gel Prepared by Atomic Layer Deposition

  • In the present work, $TiO_2$ fiilms supported by porous silica gel with high surface area synthesized by atomic layer deposition(ALD). Porous structure of silica substrate could be maintained even after deposit large amount of $TiO_2$ (500 cycles of ALD process), suggesting the differential growth mode of $TiO_2$ on top surface and inside the pore. All the $TiO_2$-covered silica samples showed improved MB adsorption abilities, comparing to bare one. In addition, when silica surface was covered with $TiO_2$ films, MB adsorption capacity was almost fully recovered by re-annealing process (500$^{\circ}C$, for 1 hr, in ambient pressure), whereas MB adsorption capacity of bare silica was decreased after re-heaing process. FT-IR study demonstrated that $TiO_2$ film could prevent deposition of surface-bound intermediate species during thermal decomposition of adsorbed MB molecules. Photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$/silica sample was also investigated.

HF 처리된 Kaolin의 Mullite화 반응 (Mullitization of HF-treated Kaolin)

  • Kaolin was treated by HF and fired at high temperature in order to reduce silica and impurity minerals of kaolin, and eventually to increase the yield of mullite. The kaolin structure was destroyed by HF-treatment and transformed into mullite at lower temperature than those of non-treated kaolin. Not only the silica content of kaolin was reduced, but also the crystalline structure of it was destroyed by HF-treatment.

KOH수열 처리에 의한 하동카오린으로부터 Zeolite의 합성 (KOH Hydrothermal Synthesis of Zeolites from Hadong Kaolin)

  • Two different kinds of cases, with and without addition of noncrystalline silica to the Hadong kaolin were studied to obtain useful information on the synthesis of zeolite. The research was carried out to investigate the formation area and the crystalized degree of zeolite according to a synthetic time, the water content of raw material mixture, KOH concentration, and stirring intensity. In the case of without addition of noncrystalline silica to the Hadong kaolin and the low concentration range of KOH, the structure of the kaolin was not changed. However, when the mole ratio of K2O/SiO$_2$ in natural kaolin was increased, Linde-L zeolite and unknown structure of kaolins, U-1 and U-2 were produced. While in the high concentration range of KOH, the unknown structure of kaolins, U-6 and U-2, were produced and the production rate of U-6 was increased with the increased of K2O/SiO$_2$ mole ratio. In the case of with addition of noncrystalline silica to the Hadong kaolin and treatment with KOH hydrothermal processing, ZSM-5, ZSM-35, and Linde-L zeolites and the mixture of unknown structure of zeolites, U-1, U-2, U-3, and U-4, were obtained. Both cases demonstrated that the synthesis of zeolite from the Hadong kaolin was highly influenced by KOH concentration of raw material mixture.

Application of Polystyrene/SiO2 Core-shell Nanospheres to Improve the Light Extraction of GaN LEDs

  • To improve the optical and electrical properties of commercialized GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs), many methods are suggested. In recent years, great efforts have been made to improve the internal quantum efficiency and light extraction efficiency (LEE) and promising approaches are suggested using a patterned sapphire substrate (PSS), V-pit embedded LED structures, and silica nanostructures. In this study, we report on the enhancement of photoluminescence (PL) intensity in GaN-based LED structures by using the combination of SiO2 (silica) nanospheres and polystyrene/SiO2 core-shell nanospheres. The SiO2 nanospheres-coated LED structure shows the slightly increased PL intensity. Moreover the polystyrene/SiO2 core-shell nanospheres-coated structure shows the more increase of PL intensity comparing to that of only SiO2 spheres-coated structure and the conventional structure without coating of nanospheres. The Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation results show corresponding result with experimentally observed results. The mechanism of enhancement of PL intensity using the coating of polystyrene/SiO2 core-shell nanospheres on LED surface can be explained by the improvement in extraction efficiency by both increasing the probability of light escape by reducing Fresnel reflection and by multiple scattering within the core-shell nanospheres.

  • Ternary blend fibers (TBFs) based on melt blends of PEN, PET, and TLCP were prepared by melt blending and spinning to achieve high performance fibers. The reinforcement effect and the TLCP fibrillar structure resulted in the improvement of mechanical properties for TBFs. Molecular orientation was an important factor in determining the tensile strength and modulus of TBFs. Another part of this research is silica nano-particle filled PEN composites were melt-blended to improve mechanical and physicalproperties, and processability. The tensile modulus and strength were improved adding silica nano-particles to the PEN. The decreased melt viscosity by the fumed silica resulted in the improvement of the processability. The fumed silica may act as a nucleating agent in the PEN matrix.

실리카 표면의 실란화에 대한 범밀도 함수 계산 (Density functional study of silanization of the silica surface)

  • Density functional calculations have been performed for the reactions of perfluoroalkylsilane and alkylsilane with silica surfaces. The (100) and (111) surfaces of ${\beta}-cristobalite$ are used as two possible models of the hydroxylated amorphous silica surface. This is the crystalline phase of silica with density and refractive index closest to those of amorphous silica. Moreover, two ${\beta}-cristobalite$ surfaces have the two types of silanol groups, namely the single silanols and the geminal silanols. We investigate the possible adsorption structure and formation energy of perfluoroalkylsilane and alkylsilane molecules with two type of silanol groups. The results will be compared with cluster and slab model.

실리카 에어로겔의 표면 개질 (Surface Modification of Silica Aerogels)

  • Silica aerogels were synthesis by the sol-gel-supercritical drying process using isopropanol as a solvent. Effets of the heat-treatment and the surface modification through propoxylation on the structural reinforcement as well as the surface hydrophobic/hydrophilic characteristics of aerogels were investigated. Silica aerogels synthesized by supercritical drying were hydrophobic but aerogels heat-treated above 20$0^{\circ}C$ were transformed to be hydrophilic. In particular it was found that the skeletal structure of aerogels heat-treated at 50$0^{\circ}C$ was strong enough not to crack after adsorbing a large amount of water vapor. Hydrophilic aerogels modified by propoxylation at 28$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 h were reversed to the hydrophobic form. Transition between hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity was reversible. The hydrophobicvity and the hydrophilicity of silica aerogels were attributed to the Si-Oh bond and the nonpolar C-H bond groups of orgainc species respectively.

  • In this article, the effect of silica addition on the phase transformation characteristics of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles synthesized by using an $O_2$-enriched coflow, hydrogen, diffusion flame was investigated. TTIP(titanium tetra-isopropoxide) and TEOS(tetraethyl-orthosilicate) were used as precursors for $TiO_2$ and $SiO_2$ nanoparticles, respectively. Based on the results from TEM and XRD analysis, it is believed that the silica addition on the flame synthesis of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles reduces the particle size distribution and raises the temperature of the phase transition from anatase to rutile. But the reduced sizes of the synthesized particles due to the silica addition made the sintering and phase transformation of particles more easily.
