SER Analysis of QAM with Space Diversity in Rayleigh Fading Channels

  • This paper derives the symbol error probability for quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) with L-fold space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. Two combining techniques, maximal ratio combining(MRC) and selection combining(SC), are considered. The formula for MRC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel over a chi-square distribution with 2L degrees of freedom. The obtained formula overcomes the limitations of the earlier work, which has been limited only to deriving the symbol error rate(SER) of QAM with two branch MRC space diversity. The formula for SC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an AWGN channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to noise ratio among all of the diversity channels for SC space diversity has been reported yet. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity gain per additional branch decreases as the number of branches becomes larger. On the other hand, the performance of 16 QAM with MRC becomes much better than that of SC as the number of branches becomes larger. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general space diversity. These results can be used to determine the order of diversity to achieve the desired SER in land mobile communication system employing QAM modulation.

도심환경에서 각도-시간 송신다이버시티의 성능분석 (Performance Analysis of Angle Time Transmit Diversity in Urban Area)

  • In multipath fading channel, diversity is essential to mitigate the impairments. In this paper, we have proposed the angle diversity scheme called ATTD(Angle Time Transmit Diversity) instead of Alamouti's STTD(Space Time Transmit Diversity) and have analyzed the performance of the proposed scheme when signal powers caused by the transmission to different angles are different. Based on it, we have measured the wireless vector-channel in the urban area, which has lots of high-story buildings, using the data collected from the 8 by 4 smart array antenna system that we made. According to the measured data, the received signals from different angles have different signal powers. Our performance analysis results show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the space diversity scheme when the received path signal power is at least -7dB compare to the strongest path signal power.

No analysis has been reported yet for theoretical SER performance of QAM with SC space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. The formula is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to-noise ratio among all of the diversity channels. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general SC space diversity. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity. We can also see that the incremental diversity gain per additional diversity decreases as the number of branches becomes larger.

  • V-BLAST (Vertical Bell Labs Layered Space-Time) 시스템은 다중 안테나를 사용하는 시스템에서 각각의 레이어를 간섭 무효화 및 제거기법을 통하여 추정하기 때문에 간단한 복잡도에 비해 높은 전송률을 가능하게 한다. 본 논문에서는 신호 공간 다이버시티 기법을 적용시킨 V-BLAST 시스템을 제안하고자 한다. 신호 공간 다이버시티 기법의 큰 장점은 신호좌표를 회전시키고 인페이즈 (inphase) 와 쿼드러쳐 (quadrature) 성분을 섞어줌으로서 추가적인 대역폭이나 전송 파워의 상승 없이도 다이버시티 이득을 얻을 수 있다. 모의실험을 통해서, 본 논문에서 제안하는 시스템의 성능이 이상적인 시스템 성능에 비해 0.5dB로 근접함을 보여주고자 한다.

  • 모바일 데이터의 급속한 성장으로 인해 대용량의 백홀 구축 요구가 대두되었으며, 비용 효율 관점에서 쉽게 적은 비용을 가지고 백홀을 신속하게 구축할 수 있는 기술은 점대점 마이크로웨이브이다. 점대점 마이크로웨이브 링크에서의 공간 다이버시티 방법은, 두 개의 수신 안테나에서 오는 신호를 결합시킴으로 페이딩효과를 상쇄시켜 성능을 향상시키는 것이다. 기존의 신호 결합방법으로는 최대 전력 방법과 최소 왜곡 방법이 제안되었다. 하지만, 선택적 페이딩 채널에서 두 기법 모두가 알고리즘의 강건성 관점에서 성능저하가 보고되었다. 그래서, 본 논문에서 현실적 관점에서 효율적이며 더 성능이 향상된 신호결합 기법을 제안하고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 방법이 신호의 스펙트럼 관점에서 상당한 성능의 향상이 있음을 보인다.

  • 본 논문은 MIMO 시스템에서, 최대 전송률을 유지하면서 최대 다이버시티를 갖는 준직교 시공간 블록 부호 (QO-STBC : quasi orthogonal space time block codes)를 다차원 신호 공간에서 설계한다. QO-STBC 부호기 중 원형심볼(based-symbols)을 두 개의 신호 쌍으로 묶어서 변형된 새로운 신호를 전송하는 방식을 grouping QO-STBC 라고 한다. 이러한 grouping QO-STBC의 최대 다이버시티 조건을 기하학적으로 살펴보고, 다차원 신호 공간에서 신호를 설계하는 방법을 제안한다. 또한 다양한 신호 성상에 대하여 설계한 부호기의 성능을 분석하고 전산 모의실험을 통하여 성능분석의 타당성을 입증한다.

마이크로셀 환경에서 편파 다이버시티 기법 적용을 위한 파라미터 분석 (Analysis of Parameters for Polarization Diversity Scheme in Microcell)

  • 본 논문에서는 마이크로셀 환경에서 상향경로(Up- Link)에서의 면파 다이버시티 기법 적용에 필요한 파라미 터인 교차편파 변별도(cross polarization discrimination: XPD). 신호상관계수(signal correlation coefficient:$\rho$). 수신선호 감쇠값(received signal decrease) 등을 측정을 통하여 분석하였다. 1.9 GHz에서 측정되었으며 빌딩밀집지역, 주택밀집지역. 상권지역, 학교지역 등 서울 도심지역의 여러 환경에서 자료들을 수집하였다. 자료분석 결과 교차편파 변별도(XPD)는 환경에 따라 6~11 dB 측정되었고, 신호상관계수($\rho$)는 0.7보다 낮았으며, 수신선호 감쇠값은 3dB보다 작았다. 공간 다이버시티와 성능비교 분석결과. 편파 다이버시티 이득이 환경에 따라 2-5 dB 정도 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 그러므로, 편파 다이버시티 기법은 마이크로 셀 환경에서 효과적으로 사용될 수 있는 다이버시티 기법으로 판단된다

Bandwidth-efficient Cooperative Diversity with Rotated Constellations and Its Performance Analysis

  • Cooperative diversity is a technique with which a virtual multiple antenna array is established among the single antenna users of the wireless network to realize space diversity. Signal space diversity (SSD) is a bandwidth-efficient diversity technique, which uses constellation rotation and interleaving techniques to achieve diversity gain. A new cooperative diversity scheme with rotated constellations (RCCD) is proposed in this paper. In this scheme, data are modulated by using a rotated constellation, and the source and the relays transmit different components of the modulated symbols. Since any one of the components contains full information of the symbols, the destination can obtain multiple signals conveying the same information from different users. In this way, space diversity is achieved. The RCCD scheme inherits the advantage of SSD - being bandwidth-efficient but without the delay problem of SSD brought by interleaving. The symbol error rate of the RCCD scheme is analyzed and simulated. The analysis and simulation results show that the RCCD scheme can achieve full diversity order of two when the inter-user channel is good enough, and, with the same bandwidth efficiency, has a better performance than amplify-and-forward and detect-and-forward methods.

A Study on Polarization Diversity for the Next Generation Mobile Radio Communications

  • In this paper, in order to investigate the fading reduction effect of narrowband and broadband signals in an indoor multipath propagation environment, both the received narrowband signal while a vehicle unit in motion and the frequency sweeped broadband signal received by vertical polarized antenna, horizontal polarized antenna and circularly polarized antenna are analyzed. Specifically, in order to evaluate polarization diversity effect, we examined the difference of fading reduction effect between the polarization diversity reception and the space diversity reception. Using the correlation coefficient and correlation graph for the polarization diversity branches, the diversity effect is evaluated. And also, using the cumulative distribution for the received signal strength simulated by diversity reception, the diversity effect is also estimated. From the evaluation results it was found that the polarization diversity which use a circularly polarized antenna at the transmitting end and the vertical and horizontal polarized antenna branches at the receiving end is markedly excellent.

Analysis on the Impact of Multiple-Antenna Transmit Schemes on Multiuser Diversity

  • In this paper, the performance of a multiuser diversity system combined with a multi-element transmit antenna system is analyzed under the assumption of independent Rayleigh fading. A measure of system .level performance is an average channel capacity as a function of the number of users and antennas. Average channel capacity is obtained from the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) distribution combined by both transmit diversity(TD) at each link and multiuser diversity at system level. Numerical results show that closed-loop antenna techniques provide an additional gain with multiuser diversity system due to array gain, even though space diversity gain reduces multiuser diversity gain. On the other hand, the space-time block coding(STBC) that provides full order space diversity gain only has a destructive influence on multiuser diversity.
