Prediction of Poor Contact by Analysis of Electrical Signal and Thermal Characteristics (전기적 신호와 열적특성 분석에 의한 접촉불량 예측)

  • Electrical Connections often cause fires due to poor contact. Occurrence rate of these fires tends to increase annually. The reason why poor contacts occur is often because it is the low mechanical pressure at the contact points. A typical connection method using mechanical pressure is a screw terminal type. This study reviewed these poor contact cases in the screw terminals. In order to get reproduction of such cases, two types of experiments were conducted. the first one was conducted under the normal contact condition, and the other one was conducted under the poor contact condition that screw terminal of breaker was loosen and did not meet the requirements of toque value. In both types of experiments, compulsory vibration was adopted as a variable to aggravate poor contacts. Each of various current values(4.5A, 9.0A, 13.5A) is input. In these experiments, relationships of a contact, electrical signal such as current and electric pulse by ZCT and thermal characteristics according to vibration effect are analyzed. The suggested data and results in this study provide the useful resources helping to investigate fires due to poor contact, and they develop the detector for poor contact and finally reduce the electrical fire occurrence rate.

Safety Evaluation of Flashing Yellow Operation at Night (야간 황색점멸신호 운영에 따른 안전성 평가)

  • This study deals with the relationships between flashing operation and traffic accident at signalized intersections. The objective of this study is to analyze safety effects of the yellow flashing operation at night. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attention to evaluating the safety results from signal operation of Cheongju's 190 signalized intersections using before-after evaluation with comparison group that are categorized by highway function. The main results are as follow. First, the numbers of traffic accidents and of fatalities/injuries in two highway types (arterial and collector road) have increased after operating the yellow flashing signal at night. Second, the numbers of accidents, fatalities/injuries, severe accidents and of fatalities/severe injuries in group A(arterial) have increased by 19%, 36%, 15% and 14%, respectively. Finally, the numbers of accidents, fatalities/injuries, severe accidents and fatalities/severe injuries in group B (collector) have increased by 50%, 64%, 41% and 77%, respectively.

Advanced Driver Assistance System for the Control of Turn Signal Indicator (방향지시등 제어를 위한 운전자 지원 시스템)

  • In this paper, a novel turn signal indication scheme is proposed and implemented to handle the turn signal of a vehicle automatically. By adopting accelerometer for the motion recognition of vehicle's momentum, the proposed way could control and manage turn signals according to the moving direction of a car when a driver forgot handling turn signal lever. The designed control system is plugged into the motorbike and tested to demonstrate improved driver's safety suitable for ADAS.

Vibration Signal Analysis of Running Electric Train using Adaptive Signal Processing (적응신호처리에 의한 주행전기동차의 진동신호해석)

  • The vibration signals of driving parts of electric train are distorted its signal patterns due to the impact components, which occurs when wheel passes rail joints. An elimination method of the impact components is investigated using adaptive signal processing technique in this study. The result shows that adaptive interference canceling method seems to be more effective than line enhancement technique. The application of adaptive interference canceling method to the signal measured at bogie shows that the extractions of the signals of driving parts of traction motor, reduction gear, and axle bearing are successful. Therefore, only the signals of bogie, which is the place to attach an accelerometer easily, is sufficient for the fault diagnosis and the safety evaluation of electric train. Also, adaptive interference canceling method can be applicable to evaluate the performance of vibration isolation between bogie and car body and to investigate the characteristics of indoor sound.

  • 본 논문에서는 케이블 고장 종류 및 위치를 탐지하는 기법으로 펄스 신호를 수열로 확신시켜 사용하는 STDR 기법의 측정성능 향상을 위해 인가신호 제거방식을 제안한다. 케이블의 고장위치가 가까워 인가신호와 반사 신호가 중첩이 되거나 반사 신호의 감쇠로 인해 고장종류와 위치추정이 어려울 때 제안한 인가신호 제거방식을 사용하면 고장위치 탐지성능을 크게 개선시킬 수 있음을 실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

A Study on the Calculation of Dynamic Yellow Signal Time Based on Approach Speed and Collision Points (접근속도와 상충지점 기반 동적황색신호시간 산정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to calculate the appropriate yellow-signal time for intersections, to find out the relationship between the approach speed and intersection width when calculating the time, and to secure safety by minimizing conflicts and dilemma sections in intersections that change according to the signal operation. For this purpose, 6,824 data points from 5 intersections were collected and analyzed. The main results of the study are as follows. First, the approach speed of individual vehicles in different lanes was analyzed, and the width of an intersection was defined by considering the conflict in each direction. Second, we developed a multiple regression model based on the approach speed and conflict points, which compensated for the problems of an existing formula. Third, a standard table is presented for applying the appropriate yellow-signal time according to the approach speed and intersection width based on a development formula. A method is also presented to determine the safety of the length of the dilemma according to the change in the yellow-light time by presenting a calculation table that can cross-analyze the yellow-signal time and a dilemma section using the relationship.

Development of bicycle device to strengthen safety (안전 강화를 위한 자전거 장치 개발)

  • With the growing number of people using bicycle, the number of bicycle accidents also has been increasing. It is said that bicycle accident can be reduced up to 11%~44% when riding a bicycle if LED light is used. The headlight of the bicycle makes exposure effect to the opposite side of bike rider while taillight makes exposure effect to the rear bike rider for improving safety. Bicycle safety device capable of displaying a change of direction by LED is implemented in this study in response to control button signal. This signal makes LED light which is installed in pedal and wheel of bicycle as a module type emitting or flickering during the fixed hour. Bicycle auxiliary device in pedal which is able to improve safety using LED when bikers are riding a bike at night is developed in this study. Bicycle safety device applying wireless communication technology will be expected alternative technology in the future to solve a social problem such as energy, environment, and safety.

Sensitivity enhancement of H2 gas sensor using PbS quantum dots (황화납 양자점 감지막을 통해 감도가 개선된 수소센서)

  • In this study, a PbS quantum dots (QDs)-based H2 gas sensor with a Pd electrode was proposed. QDs have a size of several nanometers, and they can exhibit a high surface area when forming a thin film. In particular, the NH2 present in the ligand of PbS QDs and H2 gas are combined to form NH3+, subsequently the electrical characteristics of the QDs change. In addition to the resistance change owing to the reaction between Pd and H2 gas, the resistance change owing to the reaction between the NH2 of PbS QDs and H2 gas increases the current signal at the sensor output, which can produce a high output signal for the same concentration of H2 gas. Using the XRD and absorbance properties, the synthesis and particle size of the synthesized PbS QDs were analyzed. Using PbS QDs, the sensitivity was significantly improved by 44%. In addition, the proposed H2 gas sensor has high selectivity because it has low reactivity with heterogeneous gases such as C2H2, CO2, and CH4.

  • Monitoring and diagnosis of the operating machines are very important for safety operation and maintenance in the industrial fields. These machines are most rotating machines and the diagnosis of the machines has been researched for long time. We can easily see the faulted signal of the rotating machines from the changes of the signals in frequency. The Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) is introduced for signal analysis in frequency domain. In this paper, we propose fault detection and diagnosis method using the Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) and residual signal energy. We applied our method to the induction motors depending on various status of faulted condition and could obtain good results.

A Study on Optimization of Lane-Use and Traffic Signal Timing at a Signalized Intersection (신호교차로의 차로 배정과 신호시간 최적화 모형에 관한 연구)

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to present a linear programing optimization model for the design of lane-based lane-uses and signal timings for an isolated intersection. METHODS: For the optimization model, a set of constraints for lane-uses and signal settings are identified to ensure feasibility and safety of traffic flow. Three types of objective functions are introduced for optimizing lane-uses and signal operation, including 1) flow ratio minimization of a dual-ring signal control system, 2) cycle length minimization, and 3) capacity maximization. RESULTS : The three types of model were evaluated in terms of minimizing delay time. From the experimental results, the flow ratio minimization model proved to be more effective in reducing delay time than cycle length minimization and capacity maximization models and provided reasonable cycle lengths located between those of other two models. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the flow ratio minimization objective function is the proper one to implement for lane-uses and signal settings optimization to reduce delay time for signalized intersections.
