  • If we were in a head-on or crossing situation with a target ship and did not know the target ship's intention to change her course, we might be confused about our decision making to change our course for collision avoidance and be in a danger of collision. In order to solve these problems, we need to develop an automatic system which enables mariners to easily detect a change in the target ship's course and efficiently avoid being on a collision course. In this paper, we proposed an early detection method on altering course of a target ship using the steering wheel signal. This method will contribute to the reduction of collision accidents and also be used to the VTS system and the analysis of marine accidents.

  • This paper proposes a method of recognizing that a person doesn't put on a safety cap using image processing method in DSP(Digital Signal Processor). It processes inputted images by image input devices that equipped in a industrial settings. If the method recognizes a person that doesn't put on a safety cap, a system transfers relevant recognition result to a supervisor and takes proper measures. If an accident happens and someone doesn't put on a safety cap, additional casualities could be. Proposed method can nip additional casualties in the bud. To recognize that a person don't put on a safety cap, images are processed by object abstraction, removal of noise, decision of a thing or a person, abstraction of a head part in a image, recognizing whether a man puts on a safety cap using HSV color space or not, and so on. Image input and image process are processed by DSP. And C language-based codes are optimized by an eignefunction(Intrinsics) for speed improvement of algorithms.

  • Purpose : Expression of TIMP, intrinsic inhibitor of MMP, is regulated by signal transduction in response to genotoxins and is likely to be an important step in metastasis, angiogenesis and wound healing after ionizing radiation. Therefore, we studied radiation mediated TIMP expression and its mechanism in head and neck cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods : Human head and neck cancer cell lines established at Asan Medical Center were used and radiosensitivity $(D_0)$, radiation cytotoxicity and metastatic potential were measured by clonogenic assay, n assay and invasion assay, respectively. The conditioned medium was prepared at 24 hours and 48 hours after 2 Gy and 10 Gy irradiation and expression of TIMP protein was measured by Elisa assay with specific antibodies against human TIMP. hTIMP1 promoter region was cloned and TIMP1 luciferase reporter vector was constructed. The reporter vector was transfected to AMC-HN-1 and -HN-9 cells with or without expression vector Ras, then the cells were exposed to radiation or PMA, PKC activator. EMSA was peformed with oligonucleotide (-59/-53 element and SP1) of TIMP1 promoter. Results : $D_0$ of HN-1, -2, -3, -5 and -9 cell lines were 1.55 Gy, 1.8 Gy, 1.5 Gt, 1.55 Gy and 2.45 Gy respectively. n assay confirmed cell viability, over $94\%$ at 24hrs, 48hrs after 2 Gy irradiation and over 73% after 10 Gy irradiation. Elisa assay confirmed that cells secreted TIMP1, 2 proteins continuously. After 2 Gy irradiation, TIMP2 secretion was decreased at 24hrs in HN-1 and HN-9 cell lines but after 10 Gy irradiation, it was increased in all cell lines. At 48hrs after irradiation, it was increased in HN-1 but decreased in HN-9 cells. But the change in TIMP secretion by RT was mild. The transcription of TIMP1 gene in HN-1 was induced by PMA but in HN-9 cell lines, it was suppressed. Wild type Ras induced the TIMP-1 transcription by 20 fold and 4 fold in HN-1 and HN-9 respectively. The binding activity to -59/-53, AP1 motif was increased by RT, but not to SP1 motif in both cell lines. Conclusions : We observed the difference of expression and activity of TIMPs between radiosensitive and radioresistant cell line and the different signal transduction pathway between in these cell lines may contribute the different radiosensitivity. Further research to investigate the radiation response and its signal pathway of TIMPs is needed.

  • In this paper, a distributed 2-hop routing algorithm is proposed. The main purpose of the proposed algorithm is to reduce the overall power consumption of each sensor node so that the lifetime of WSN(wireless sensor network) is prolonged. At the beginning of each round, the base station transmits a synchronization signal that contains information on the priority table that is used to decide whether each sensor node is elected as a cluster head or not. The priority table is constructed so that sensor nodes closer to half energy distance from the base station get the higher priority. 2-hop routing is done as follows. Cluster heads inside half energy distance from the base station communicate with the base station directly. Those outside half energy distance have to decide whether they choose 2-hop routing or 1-hop routing. To do this, each cluster head outside half energy distance calculates the energy consumption needed to communicate with the base station via 1-level cluster head or directly. If less energy is needed when passing through the 1-level cluster head, 2-hop routing is chosen and if not, 1-hop routing is chosen. After routing is done each sensor nodes start sensing data.

  • Background and Objectives During speech, the vocal folds oscillate at frequencies ranging from 100-200 Hz with amplitudes of a few millimeters. Mechanical stimulation is an essential factor which affects metabolism of human vocal folds. The effect of mechanical vibration on the cellular response in the human vocal fold fibroblasts cells (hVFFs) was evaluated. Materials and Method We created a culture systemic device capable of generating vibratory stimulations at human phonation frequencies. To establish optimal cell culture condition, cellular proliferation and viability assay was examined. Quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction was used to assess extracellular matrix (ECM) related and growth factors expression on response to changes in vibratory frequency and amplitude. Western blot was used to investigate ECM and inflammation-related transcription factor activation and its related cellular signaling transduction pathway. Results The cell viability was stable with vibratory stimulation within 24 h. A statistically significant increase of ECM genes (collagen type I alpha 1 and collagen type I alpha 2) and growth factor [transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) and fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF-1)] observe under the experimental conditions. Vibratory stimulation induced transcriptional activation of NF-κB by phosphorylation of p65 subunit through cellular Mitogen-activated protein kinases activation by extracellular signal regulated kinase and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) phosphorylation on hVFFs. Conclusion This study confirmed enhancing synthesis of collagen, TGF-β1 and FGF was testified by vibratory stimulation on hVFFs. This mechanism is thought to be due to the activation of NF-κB and MAPKs. Taken together, these results demonstrate that vibratory bioreactor may be a suitable alternative to hVFFs for studying vocal folds cellular response to vibratory vocalization.

  • Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) is commonly employed in the field of forensic pathology. PMCT was mainly performed using a whole-body scan with a wide field of view (FOV), which lead to a decrease in spatial resolution due to the increased pixel size. This study aims to evaluate the potential for developing a super-resolution model based on conditional generative adversarial networks (CGAN) to enhance the image quality of CT. 1761 low-resolution images were obtained using a whole-body scan with a wide FOV of the head phantom, and 341 high-resolution images were obtained using the appropriate FOV for the head phantom. Of the 150 paired images in the total dataset, which were divided into training set (96 paired images) and validation set (54 paired images). Data augmentation was perform to improve the effectiveness of training by implementing rotations and flips. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, we used the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) and Deep Image Structure and Texture Similarity (DISTS). Obtained the PSNR, SSIM, and DISTS values of the entire image and the Medial orbital wall, the zygomatic arch, and the temporal bone, where fractures often occur during head trauma. The proposed method demonstrated improvements in values of PSNR by 13.14%, SSIM by 13.10% and DISTS by 45.45% when compared to low-resolution images. The image quality of the three areas where fractures commonly occur during head trauma has also improved compared to low-resolution images.

  • It is common m childhood that children suffer intracavity or head injury, falling down backward, having chopsticks in their mouth. But most of them have paralysis of upper and lower extremity because of secondary damage by penetrating injury of brainstem and spine. We could not find this case which have shown infaction of medulla oblangata on MRI and paralysis by impact only without clear penetrating evidence. So the authors report this case with study of literature because we experience one case that have high signal density in brainstem on MRI, Loss of consciousness, and left hemiplegia without clear penetrating evidence after falling down backward, having chopsticks in her mouth and regard it rare case.

  • In this paper, the autonomic function analysis system was designed to noninvasively assess the autonomic function of cardiovascular system. Orthostatic stress protocol was designed to stimulate the autonomic nervous system. designed protocol and analysis algorithm were evaluated by experiments for 25 normal subjects and 22 hemiplegia patients. Data were processed by usign the power spectral analysis. Nwe indexes of autonomic function, LF$_{N}$ and HF$_{N}$, were proposed and were compared with LF/HF ratio. New indexes of the sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, respectively. The IST and the DPT are balanced and have positive value for normal subjects during orthostatic stress but not for hempilegia patients. This result suggest that the IST and the DPT are used as new criteria of normal autonomic function during orthostatic stress.ess.

  • We analyzed dynamic-strain perturbations applied to a fiber Bragg grating. The fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer was used, and by analyzing the interference signal wecould obtain the frequency and relative amplitude information of the dynamic-perturbation. The minimum detectable dynamic-strain using the system was ~9.5 nstrain RMS/.root.(Hz) at 500 Hz. Also we proposed and demonstrated a new method which uses a temperature-discriminating dual-trating sensor head. With the method, we could measure the dynamic -strain as well as static-static-strain even for the case in which the optical pathe difference modulation was applied.
