  • Estimation of damping ratio for vibration signals measured on the passenger car's seat is useful for the objective evaluation of impact harshness in car. The vibration signal is a transient signal represented by many coupled modes of suspension system. Wavelet transform automatically decouples these modes in the time-frequency domain. Damping ratios for decoupled modes are obtained by logarithmic treatment for the Wavelet transformed signal. The objective evaluation using Wavelet transform has been well corresponded with subjective evaluation done by skilled engineers.

Fundamental Small-signal Modeling of Li-ion Batteries and a Parameter Evaluation Using Levy's Method

  • The fundamental small-signal modeling of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries and a parameter evaluation approach are investigated in this study to describe the dynamic behaviors of small signals accurately. The main contributions of the study are as follows. 1) The operational principle of the small signals of Li-ion batteries is revealed to prove that the sinusoidal voltage response of a Li-ion battery is a result of a sinusoidal current stimulation of an AC small signals. 2) Three small-signal measurement conditions, namely stability, causality, and linearity, are proved mathematically proven to ensure the validity of the frequency response of the experimental data. 3) Based on the internal structure and electrochemical operational mechanism of the battery, an AC small-signal model is established to depict its dynamic behaviors. 4) A classical least-squares curve fitting for experimental data, referred as Levy's method, are introduced and developed to identify small-signal model parameters. Experimental and simulation results show that the measured frequency response data fit well within reading accuracy of the simulated results; moreover, the small-signal parameters identified by Levy's method are remarkably close to the measured parameters. Although the fundamental and parameter evaluation approaches are discussed for Li-ion batteries, they are expected to be applicable for other batteries.

On the basis of this conditions and purpose, this study presents a general procedure for deriving the Signal - Noise Ratio, confidence intervals and significiant testing for the measurement devices.

정전용량형 변위 센서 신호 처리 회로 개발 및 성능 평가 (Development of a Signal Conditioning Circuit for Capacitive Displacement Sensors and Performance Evaluation)

  • A signal conditioning circuit for capacitive displacement sensors was developed using a high frequency modulation/demodulation method, and its performance was evaluated. Since capacitive displacement sensors can achieve high resolution and linearity, they have been widely used as precision sensors within the range of several hundred micrometers. However, they inherently have a limitation in low frequency range and some nonlinearity characteristics and so a specially designed signal conditioning circuit is needed to handle these properties. The developed signal processing circuit consists of three parts: linearization, modulation/demodulation, and nonlinearity compensation. Each part was constructed discretely using several IC chips and passive elements. An evaluation system for precision displacement sensors was developed using a laser interferometer, a precision stage, and a PID position controller. The signal processing circuit was tested using the evaluation system in the respect of resolution, repeatability, linearity, and so on. From the experimental results, we know that a highly linear voltage output can be obtained successfully, which is proportional to displacement and the nonlinearity of output is less than 0.02% of full range. However, in the future, further investigation is required to reduce noise level and phase delay due to a low-pass filter. The evaluation system also can be applied effectively to calibration and evaluation of precision sensors and stages.

뇌파를 이용한 허리 압박감 평가 기술 (Evaluation of Waist Pressure Using Electroencephalogram(EEG) Signal)

  • This paper presents a waist pressure evaluation method in human sensibility using a electroencephalogram(EEG) signal. For this objective, a size-controllable waist-belt is used. First of all, EEG signals for relaxed state are acquired. Then, the waist-belt of the subject is tightened about 90% of normal state. After a few minutes, the belt of the subject is released. Some necessary preprocessing is performed on the acquired signals, Linear Prediction (LP) coefficients are utilized as the feature parameters extracting the characteristics of EEG signal, and a multi-layer neural network is used for indicating the state of body pressure. The results of the method showed 77.2% of coincidence with body pressure states. This may be compromising results for ssubject-independent sensibility evaluation using EEG signal.

  • The railroad facilities are intended for long-term operation as the initial acquisition costs necessary for infrastructure construction are high. Therefore, regular maintenance of railroad facilities is essential, and furthermore, system reliability through systematic performance evaluation is required. In this study, the signal control system of railroad electrical equipment was selected as the subject of research and the performance evaluation target facility selection study was conducted using AHP. The results of the study can contribute to the reliability of the signal control system as well as to the reliability of the railroad system, which is a higher system.

  • This paper presents the correlation between psychological and physiological acoustics for the automotive sound. The research purpose of this paper is to evaluate the sound quality of turn-signal sound of a passenger car based EEG signal. The previous method for the objective evaluation of sound quality is to use sound metrics based on psychological acoustics. This method uses not only psychological acoustics but also physiological acoustics. For this work, the sounds of 7 premium passenger cars are recorded and evaluated subjectively by 30 persons. The correlation between this subjective rating and sound metrics is calculated based on psychological acoustics. Finally the correlation between the subjective rating and the EEG signal measured on the brain is also calculated. Throughout these results the new evaluation system for the sound quality on interior sound of a passenger car has been developed based on bio-signal.

다중 통합항법 시스템을 위한 랩뷰 기반의 사용자 인터페이스 설계 (LabVIEW-based User Interface Design for Multi-Integrated Navigation Systems)

  • In order to reduce the time and cost of developing a navigation system, a performance evaluation platform can be used. A User Interface (UI) is required to effectively evaluate the performance, which sets parameters and gives navigation sensor signals and data display, and also displays navigation results. In this paper, a LabVIEW-based UI design method for multi-integrated navigation systems is proposed and implementation results are presented. The UI consists of a signal and data generation part and a signal and data processing part. The signal and data generation part sets parameters for the signal and data generation and displays the navigation sensor signal and data generation results. The signal and data processing part sets parameters for the signal and data processing and displays the navigation results. The signal and data generation part and signal and data processing part are designed to satisfy the requirements of the UI for a performance evaluation of the navigation system. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed UI design method, parameters of the signal and data generation and the signal and data processing are set through the LabVIEW-based UI, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal and inertial measurement unit data generation results and the navigation results of a GPS Software Defined Receiver (SDR) and inertial navigation system are confirmed. The implementation results show that the proposed UI design method helps users conduct an effective performance evaluation of navigation systems.

Design of Real-Time Autonomic Nervous System Evaluation System Using Heart Instantaneous Frequency

  • In this study, we attempt to design a real-time autonomic nervous system(ANS) evaluation system usable during exercise using heart instantaneous frequency(HIF). Although heart rate variability(HRV) is considered to be a representative signal widely used ANS evaluation system, the R-peak detection process must be included to obtain an HRV signal, which involves a high sampling frequency and interpolation process. In particular, it cannot accurately evaluate the ANS using HRV signals during exercise because it is difficult to detect the R-peak of electrocardiogram(ECG) signals with exposure to many noises during exercise. Therefore, in this study, we develop the ground for a system that can analyze an ANS in real-time by using the HIF signal circumventing the problem of the HRV signal during exercise. First, we compare the HRV and HIF signals in order to prove that the HIF signal is more efficient for ANS analysis than HRV signals during exercise. Further, we performed real-time ANS analysis using HIF and confirmed that the exerciser's ANS variation experiences massive surges at points of acceleration and deceleration of the treadmill(similar to HRV).

헤일레이션 방지 디스크를 이용한 소형 카메라 이미지 화질개선 연구 (Research for Image Enhancement using Anti-halation Disk for Compact Camera Module)

  • 본 논문에서는 소형 카메라 모듈의 화질을 분석하는 시스템을 제안하고 이를 이용하여 렌즈의 성능을 평가하며, 플레어 및 헐레이션 방지 디스크를 삽입하여 렌즈의 성능이 개선되는 효과를 검증한다. 카메라 모듈의 화질을 평가하는 카메라 모듈 화질검증 시스템과 이미지 신호 처리기(Image Signal Processor, ISP) 내부의 레지스터를 제어하는 카메라 모듈 제어 프로그램 및 화질분석 소프트웨어를 개발한다. 제안된 헐레이션 방지 디스크를 삽입된 카메라 모듈의 화질을 기존 카메라 모듈의 화질과 비교평가에서 획득된 영상의 해상도, 밝기, 색재현 등의 성능을 검증한다.
