Performance Improvement of TCP over Wired-Wireless Networks by Predicting Packet Loss of Mobile Host (유. 무선 혼합망에서 이동 호스트의 패킷 손실 예측을 통한 TCP 성능 향상)

  • In wired networks, packet losses mostly occur due to congestion. TCP reacts to the congestion by decreasing its congestion window, thus to reduce network utilization. In wireless networks, however, losses may occur due to the high bit-error rate of the transmission medium or due to fading and mobility. Nevertheless, TCP still reacts to packet losses according to its congestion control scheme, thus to reduce the network utilization unnecessarily. This reduction of network utilization causes the performance of TCP to decrease. In this paper, we predict packet loss by using RSS(Received Signal Strengths) on the wireless and suggest adding RSS flag bit in ACK packet of MH. By using RSS flag bit in ACK, the FH(Fixed Host) decides whether it adopt congestion control scheme or not for the maximum throughput. The result of the simulation by NS-2 shows that the proposed mechanism significantly increases sending amount and receiving amount by 40% at maximum.

A Study of Demerit-CUSUM Control Chart and Interpretation Method (Demerit-CUSUM 관리도와 해석방법에 관한 연구)

  • As the technology has improved and demands of customers have varied, a lot of products are getting diverse and intricate. Consequently, the enterprise that produce products have to simultaneously consider the various variables for the very products. There are some scheme, such as Multivariate control chart and Demerit control chart, designed to simultaneously monitor the variables in the process. In this paper, we present an effective method for process control using the Demerit-CUSUM control chart in the process where nonconforming units or nonconformities are occured by various types. In addition, we show interpretation method for abnormal signal in order to quickly detect the assignable causes as Demerit-CUSUM control chart signals abnormality. we compare performance of Demerit control chart and Demerit-CUSUM control chart using example again used in the existing studies, and present result of performance accoriding to changing sample size and parameter.

Soft-Start Open Circuit Voltage and Constant Current Sequence Control of 2.5[kW] HID Search Lamp for Ship (선박용 2.5[kW] HID 탐사등의 Soft-Start 방식에 의한 개방회로 전압과 점등전류 순차 제어)

  • HID(High Intensity Discharge) search lamp for shipment requires a high open circuit and output current compare than vehicle. This paper presents a soft-start open circuit voltage and constant current sequence control method for 2.5[kW] HID search lamp. The proposed method controls the opal circuit voltage and discharge current of HID lamp according to ignition signal with a simple 8-bit micro-processor and PWM device. For the stable control of lamp, micro-processor checks the output voltage and current. And the checked signals are compared with ignition signal and changes the control mode for stable operation. An ignition signal and micro-processor change the control mode from open circuit voltage contort to constant current control. The proposed control scheme is verified from experimental tests of 2.5[kW] HID search lamp for shipment.

PAPR Reduction of an OFDM Signal by use of PTS scheme with MG-PSO Algorithm (MG-PSO 알고리즘을 적용한 PTS 기법에 의한 OFDM 신호의 PAPR 감소)

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system is robust to frequency selective fading and narrowband interference in high-speed data communications. However, an OPDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers and the superposition of these subcarriers causes a problem that can give a large PARR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). PTS(Partial Transmit Sequence) scheme can reduce the PAPR by dividing OFDM signal into subblocks and then multiplying the phase weighting factors to each subblocks, but computational complexity for selecting of phase weighting factors increases exponentially with the number of subblocks. Therefore, in this paper, MG-PSO(Modified Greedy algorithm-Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm that combines modified greedy algorithm and PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm is proposed to use for the phase control method in PTS scheme. This method can solve the computational complexity and guarantee to reduce PAPR. We analyzed the performance of the PAPR reduction when we applied the proposed method to telecommunication systems.

Stepwise Inertial Control of a Doubly-Fed Induction Generator to Prevent a Second Frequency Dip

  • To arrest a frequency nadir, a stepwise inertial control (SIC) scheme generates a constant active power reference signal of a wind turbine generator (WTG) immediately after a disturbance and maintains it for the predetermined time. From that point, however, the reference of a WTG abruptly decreases to restore the rotor speed for the predefined period. The abrupt decrease of WTG output power will inevitably cause a second frequency dip. In this paper, we propose a modified SIC scheme of a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) that can prevent a second frequency dip. A reference value of the modified SIC scheme consists of a reference for the maximum power point tracking control and a constant value. The former is set to be proportional to the cube of the rotor speed; the latter is determined so that the rotor speed does not reach the minimum operating limit by considering the mechanical power curve of a DFIG. The performance of the modified SIC was investigated for a 100 MW aggregated DFIG-based wind power plant under various wind conditions using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results show that the proposed SIC scheme significantly increases the frequency nadir without causing a second frequency dip.

  • In this paper, peak detector of generator output voltage and variable gain controller is introduced for the fast dynamic response. The general r.m.s. detecting signal of generator has inherent time delay from the actual signal. So the dynamic response of generator using conventional PID controller has some problem in sudden load change. In order to overcome this problem, the peak detector and signal selector with variable gain controller is used in this paper. The proposed control scheme is verified from experimental test of 200kW diesel engine-generator.

  • This paper presents a Digital Signal Processor achieving high through-put for both decision intensive and computation intensive tasks. The proposed processor employees a multiplier, two ALU and load/store. Unit as operational units. Those four units are controlled and works parallel by superscalar control scheme, which is different from prior DSP architecture. The performance evaluation was done by implementing AC-3 decoding algorithm and 37.8% improvement was achieved. This study is valuable especially for the consumer electronics applications, which require very low cost.

  • DC Motors have been widely used in industry as driving power motors for electrical vehicles cranes and winches due to their strong starting torques and as servo-motors for position and speed control systems due to their convenience of speed control etc. Generally in the speed control systems of motors speed sensors are required and this fact results in he increased price and operating cost and in the limitted applications. This paper presents a new speed control method for sensorless DC motors. In this scheme the speed signal is estimatd by the measurement values of the armature voltage and current. A Fuzzy feedback controller instead of the conventional PID controller. Through simulations the effectiveness and usefullness of the proposed method are illustrated.

  • The objective of this paper is to design and implement sliding mode control scheme for an actuation system using BLDC motor. Since the dynamic characteristics of this system with unknown disturbance and parameter variations are very complicated and highly nonlinear, the conventional linear control approaches may not guarantee satisfactory control performances. In order to improve the dynamic performances of this system, a model following sliding mode control(MFSMC) with perturbation estimation approach is designed and implemented. It eliminates the conventional requirements for the knowledge of uncertainty upper boundary. The effectiveness of this control approach is verified by comparison with a PID control through a series of simulation and experimental studies.

  • In this paper, we present model predictive control scheme based on neural network to control discrete-time chaotic systems. We use a feedforward neural network as nonlinear prediction model. The training algorithm used is an adaptive backpropagation algorithm that tunes the connection weights. And control signal is obtained by using gradient descent (GD), some kind of LMS method. We identify that the system identification results through model prediction control have a great effect on control performance. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed control algorithm performs much better than the conventional controller.
