  • Today's driver information system often features a rotary control type as a main controller for menu navigation. Population stereotype should be clearly understood in designing those systems to minimize the misunderstanding by the operator. This paper investigates stereotypes for rotary controlled menu interfaces and influences of contributing principles. A human factors experiment was conducted using various configurations of control-display layouts, cursor shapes/positions, and movement directions. The results showed that the control should be on the left of the display, with a rightward icon on the right side of the cursor, in order to match the stereotype. Regression analysis indicated that Warrick's principle was the most influential principle, followed by Icon shape, Icon position, Clockwise away, and Clockwise up principles. This study provides valuable information to designers of menu-based systems such as driver information systems and main control rooms that uses rotary controls.

  • This study examined 389 customers visiting restaurants located in the Guemo mountain resort who filled out self-administered questionnaires. The results showed that 60% of the participants dined out monthly. The 30 to 40-year-old age group did so the most frequently, dining out one to two times weekly. For men, the favorite menu item was the sanchejeongsik along side traditional liquor and for women was the samgaetang. By age, the 20, 30, and 60-year-olds selected samgaetang as their favorite, the 40-year-olds selected traditional liquor, and the 50-year-olds selected the sanchejungsik. The reasons for selecting the dishes were because participants previously enjoyed them or considered the dishes healthy, regardless of sex or age. Participants suggested that the sanchejeongsik and samgaetang be promoted for tourism, without significant differences between gender. The current findings suggest that the quality of certain local menu such as sanchejungsik and samgaetang could be improved to become more nutritious for future customers. Also, traditional Korean liquor may become even more popular with visitors to the Guemo mountain resort if paired with simple menu items such as jeon or muk.

For the 20-49 year olds and the 50-64 year olds, frequently served patterns were cooked rice + soup + kimchi > noodle + kimchi. For the 65-74 year olds, those patterns were cooked rice + stew > cooked rice + kimchi. For the normal group and the risk group, the frequently served pattern was cooked rice + soup + kimchi. The most used menu pattern by the number of dishes was cooked rice + soup + kimchi in the male, female, normal group and risk group. For the 20-49 year olds, the pattern was cooked rice + soup + kimchi and noodle + kimchi. For the 50-64 year olds, it was cooked rice + soup + kimchi. For the 65-74 years old, it was cooked rice + stew. The result of analyzing patterns for the most used main staple food was cooked rice in all groups. The results of analyzing patterns, with those considered basic food, cooked rice, soup and stew, showed that frequently served patterns were cooked rice + soup > cooked rice > cooked rice + stew in all groups. • In recent years, there is remarkable tendency of overconsumption and high calorie intake which may come from a high availability of foods, the increase of food production, processed food, and imported food. This cause chronic diseases such as obesity. high blood pressure inducing heart disease, and diabetics etc. Traditional Korean eating pattern and habit make too much waste of foods and wasting time for the food preparation. The dietary guideline used for the guidance of Korean diet pattern is composed of 'nutrients-ingredient-cooking-meal which is not visualized pattern. Therefore we made up menus in the pattern of meal-cooking-ingredient-nutrient, which is more brief, compact and more visualized pattern. We set 27,000 menus with 600 kcal/meal which is combined with staple meal-main dish-side dish (30 menus of rife meal, 5 menus of bread meal, noodle meal and one serving dish meal). 600 kcal menu is basically for volume of serving per one person according to the experimental cooking and reference. This has several advantages of simple procedure of cooking, easy practice to use menus, and good source of nutritional values. In addition to these, it also provides a new menu to decrease the calorie consumption reducing the risk of chronic disease, to prevent wasting foods, and to help single person.
