This study deals with the suppressing characteristics of alkali-silica reaction by ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) in NaCl solution. NaCl contents used in the experiment ranges over 0%, 2.8% and 20%. Reactive aggregate used is Japanese andesite. Also, three GGBSs of about 4.000. 6, 000 and $8, 000cm^2/g$ were used in the experiment. The replacement proportions of portland cement by GGBSs were 40%. 60%, 70% and 80%. respectively. The specimens with GGBS were severely contracted according to the increasing replacement ratio in NaCl solution. The contraction rate increases according to the increasing in NaCl content. Also. it does with increasing the blaine fineness of GGRS. It is concluded that the suppression of alkali-silica reaction by GGBS in NaCl solution is complished by contraction of GGBS due to chloride ion induced chemical shrinkage.
In this study, the utilization possibility of coal-preparation refuse emitted from Hwasun coal mine in Korea as a raw material for ceramic body was investigated. The firing shrinkage ratio of ceramic specimen made from the coal-preparation refuse was reduced with increasing the addition amounts of that, while the compressive strength was slightly decreased. The weight of ceramic body was also reduced because carbon contained in the coal-preparation refuse was burn by fring. The water adsorption ratio of the ceramic specimen was under 10 wt%, and the compressive strength of that was over 21 MPa at over $1,150^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. Therefore, it was possible to make the 1st garde clay brick of KS L 4201 from the coal-preparation refuse.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the basic performance of cement mortar for repair using alumina cement and nitrite can be cured in low temperature environment. For this purpose, the repair mortar used in the domestic construction site was selected and the experimental evaluation was carried out by adjusting the mixing amount by substituting alumina cement and nitrite for the blending ratio. The experimental test results confirmed that alumina cement and nitrite were replaced with the repair mortar, the initial strength was improved. Also, the chemical resistance was improved, the shrinkage behavior was decreased, and the resistance to freezing and thawing was increased. As a result, applying alumina cement and nitrite at a ratio of 2:1 at 7.5%, the surface condition was maintained for 5 months or longer and it was judged to be excellent in practical use for external structures.

The purpose of this study was to measure the polymerization contraction stress of two types of composite resins; chemical cured type(Cliarfil F II, Kuraray, Japan) and photo-cured type(Photo-Clearfil Bright, Kuraray, Japan). The stresses of composite resin by contraction measured with specially designed measuring device(Fig. 1). The stresses caused by shrinkage during hardening of specimens were measured according to the type of composite resins, thickness of specimen(0.65, 1.30 and 1.95mm), and ratio of catalyst to base in case of only chemical cured composite resin(0.5, 1.0 and 1.5). As the composite resin specimen shrank on hardening, the load cell recorded force vs time automatically on pen-recorder(Toa, Japan) with a cross-head speed 60mm/hr at 0~10 voltages up to 2 hours. The experiments were conducted in a room maintained at $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity $50{\pm}10%$. The results were as follows. 1. The contraction stress during hardening was higher in photo cured composite resin than in chemical cured composite resin. 2. The contraction stress during hardening was increased with thickness of composite resin specimen. 3. In chemical cured composite resin, the polymerization contraction stress was decreased with ratio of catalyst and base. 4. The contraction stress during polymerization was higher in early time after insertion of photo cured composite resin and chemical cured composite resin.
This research compared three methods for producing and processing nanocomposite polypropylene filament yarns with permanent antimicrobial efficiency. The three methods used to mix antimicrobial agents based on silver nano particles with PP were as follows: 1) mixing of PP powder and inorganic nanocomposite filler with the appropriate concentration using a twin-screw extruder and preparing granules, 2) method 1 with a singlerather than twin-screw extruder, and 3) producing the masterbatch by a twin-screw extruder and blending it with PP in the melt spinning process. All pure polypropylene samples and other combined samples had an acceptable spinnability at the spinning temperature of $240^{\circ}C$ and take-up speed of 2,000 m/min. After producing as-spun filament yarns by a pilot plant, melt spinning machine, the samples were drawn, textured and finally weft knitted. The physical and structural properties (e.g., linear density, tenacity, breaking elongation, initial modulus, rupture work, shrinkage and crystallinity) of the as-spun and drawn yarns with constant and variable draw ratios (the variable draw ratio was used to gain a constant breaking elongation of 50%) were investigated and compared, while DSC, SEM and FTIR techniques were used to characterize the samples. Finally, the antibacterial efficiency of the knitted samples was evaluated. The experimental results revealed that the crystallinity reduction of the as-spun yarn obtained from method 1 (5%) was more than that of method 2 (3%), while the crystallinity of the modified as-spun yarns obtained with method 3 remained unchanged compared to pure yarn. However, the drawing procedure compensated for this difference. By applying methods 2 and 3, the drawing generally improved the tenacity and modulus of the modified fibers, whereas method 1 degraded the constant draw ratio. Although the biostatic efficiency of the nanocomposite yarns was excellent with all three methods, the modified fabrics obtained from methods 1 and 2 showed a higher bioactivity.

For high performance concrete, due to its low water cement ratio (water binder ratio) and addition of mineral admixtures, pretty high autogenous shrinkage and thermal deformation occur at very early age of casting (especially before hardening). This may lead to early age cracking of HPC structures, and then may influence the durability of HPC. This paper has monitored the early age properties of HPC successfully by embedded FBG strain sensor. The results showed that the deformation increased rapidly within the first day after HPC casting. And its value is up to $85{\mu}{\varepsilon}$, which is the 30% of two-month deformation ($280{\mu}{\varepsilon}$). Considering the durability and permeability of HPC, the first-day deformation is pretty high and can not be neglected. Also the superior capability of FBG sensors such as continuity, stability and multiplexed technique etc, has been demonstrated.
Metal foams have a cellular structure consisting of a solid metal containing a large volume fraction of pores. In particular, open pores which are penetrable pores are necessary for industrial applications such as in high temperature filters and as support for catalysts. In this study, Fe foam with greater than 90% porosity and 2-mm pore size was successfully fabricated using a slurry coating process and the pore properties were characterized. The Fe and $Fe_2O_3$ powder mixing ratios were controlled to produce Fe foam samples with different pore sizes and porosity. First, the slurry was prepared through the uniform mixing of powders, distilled water, and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA). The amount of slurry coated with the PU foam increased with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ mixing powder ratio, but the shrinkage and porosity of the Fe foams decreased, respectively, with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ mixing powder ratio.

This paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of substitution of recycled coarse aggregate(RCA) under 13mm on the engineering properties of the concrete using gap graded coarse aggregates. Concretes with 0.4 of water to cement ratio(W/C) were fabricated to achieve 30MPa of design strength with coarse aggregate over 13mm in size with the maximum size of 25mm. RCA was substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 10% to 50% and crushed coarse aggregate under 13mm was also substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 20% to 40%, respectively. Test results indicated that the replacement of RCA up to 20% resulted in an increase of fluidity and strength. It also caused a decrease in the drying shrinkage due to dense packing effect by achieving continuous grading of mixed aggregates. For practical application of RCA, when properly substituted, the use of RCA enabled the concrete to reduce water contents and sand to aggregate ratio in mixing design stage of the concrete. And, it can also enhance the compressive strength of the concrete.

Objective of this study is to identify properties on strength increase of hardened concrete and fluidization of non-hardened concrete using waste ceramics generated by construction waste, which is a type of industrial waste, and by ceramics, which is a clay plastic, during its production process, and determine length change ratio caused by drying shrinkage during substitution of recycle aggregate and waste ceramics, and whether they can be used as concrete compounds. Slump of non-hardened concrete exhibited the best fluidization and formability at recycled aggregate's replacement ratio of 60% driven by higher substitution ratio of recycled aggregate and waste ceramics while air content met the KS requirement when substitution ratio of waste ceramics was $4,000cm^2/g$. Compressive strength of hardened concrete exceeded the requirements at early age and standard age and temperature dropped by roughly $6{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ less than the standard at maximum temperature in adiabatic temperature increase, which will hopefully result in stronger durability.

In this study, the artificial coarse aggregate was manufactured by using coal ash and low grade clay. The characteristics of a coal ash-clay system were investigated using XRD, XRF, TG-DTA, SEM and Dilatometer with various coal ash contents. The chemical compositions are the fly ash, bottom ash and clay, $Al_2O_3$ are 28.5 wt%, 32.4 wt% and 18.1 wt%, and $SiO_2$ are 33.0 wt%, 53.7 wt% and 68.4 wt% in weight ratio, respectively. The shrinkage of specimens started at around $850^{\circ}C$ and changed little up to $1100^{\circ}C$, but increased markedly at above $1100^{\circ}C$. The shrinkage rate is strongly related to the decarbonization amount of coal ash. At the sintering temperature $1150^{\circ}C$, it was found that quartz, mullite, anorthite and albite phase exist in all specimens. It was found that bottom-clay system specimen sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$ had a good compressive strength of 87.5 kg/$cm^2$, and the compressive strength of bottom-clay specimen was higher than that of fly-clay system specimen. The reusability of coal ash as a raw material in the process of shotcrete resources such as artifical coarse aggregate is highly expected.
