The shrinkage rate of solid state sintering has been theoretically derived by combining the rate equation of material transport and the net free energy change resulting from the decrease of solid-vapor interface and the increase of grain boundary during sintering. For a sinteing model an idealized situation of the spherical particles with BCC packing was taken as the initial condition and the shrinkage was assumed to occur by forming the flat circualr grain boundaries on each particle. The plotted shrinkage rates as a function of grain boundary to surface energy ratio $(gamma_g/gamma_s)$ have shown that the relative density increases linearly at the initial stage of sintering but the shrinkage rate is decreased upon further sintering due to a decrease in driving force for densificaton. It has been also shown that the densification is critically affected by the $gamma_g/gamma_s$ ratio. In order to get the complete densificatin the ratio should be less than $sqrt{3}$. Any additive or atmospheric condition causing the decrease of$_g/gamma_s$ ratio will enhance sintering.

The study is to examine the drying shrinkage reducing method of mortar using organic shrinkage reducing agent. According to the experiment result, when 2% and 4% of organic shrinkage reducing agent were added, 40% and 50% of the shrinkage rate of mortar were obtained. Also, in the cracking test of plate-shape specimen, the usage of shrinkage agent 2% reduced about 60% of the total cracking length compare to total cracking length the usage of portland cement, the usage of shrinkage agent 4% was not happened crack until 90 days. Accordingly, the usage of shrinkage agent show good effect in prevention of crack.
The 3 dimensional Pipe (Annular) Shaped Products was selected as a test sample, then a attribute of a molding shrinkage according to the parameters of a injection process was examined with PC, which is the typical engineering plastic. Both the inside and the outside diameter of the Pipe (Annular) sample were shrank into the inner direction of the part. And then the comparative analysis of the samples proved that a increasing thickness led a bigger shrinkage rate in the equal outside diametric samples, and a decreasing outside diameter caused a bigger shrinkage rate in the same thickness samples. The comparative study of the cushion volume of a injection machine showed that the molding shrinkage was most affected by the pressure strength among the resin temperature, the maintenance pressure strength and the maintenance pressure duration time. Each of the shrinkage rates according to the measuring direction and the gate position was different. As a result, the injection molded sample had not a typical circular shape.
This research investigated the variation of density, the weight loss, dimensional shrinkage and heat conduction by the heating rate and keeping time at maximum temperature of woodceramics, when sawdust boards made from thinned logs of Pinus densiflora, Larix kaemferi and Pinus koraiensis were impregnated with phenol-formaldehyde resin, and then were formed by heating rate ($2^{\circ}C/min{\sim}6^{\circ}C/min$) and keeping time at maximum temperature (1~5 h). As the heating rate increased, the density and thickness shrinkage decreased, but weight loss and linear shrinkage increased. The more the keeping time at maximum temperature, the greater the linear shrinkage and thickness shrinkage. The heating conduction was superior at the heating rate is $2^{\circ}C/min$ and the keeping time at maximum temperature of 2 hs.

Molding shrinkage s variation is one of the problems to be solved in conventional injection molding. Despite many trying-out has been to solve these, intrinsic causes of shrinkage such as orientation and thermal exchange between melt and mold has yet not solved. For reducing shrinkage and residual stress on molding, injection compression molding process was invented. In this study, experiments about effect of injection compression molding's parameters on shrinkage of molding were conducted with PMMA and compared with conventional injection molding's shrinkage. Before the injection compression molding experiment, molding shrinkage rate was predicted by analyzing pvT graph and was compared with the results of experiment. The shrinkage rate of injection compression molding was lower than convention injection molding' one but was different from the predicted shrinkage. The reason was observed that experiment mold as not positive type, flowing backward of melt into nozzle and unreasonable mechanism of injection molding machine.
The purpose of this study was to measure the volumetric polymerization shrinkage kinetics and stress of a silorane-based dental restorative composite and compare it with those of conventional methacrylate-based dental composites. Two methacrylate-based composites (Z250, Z350 flowable) and one silorane-based composite (P90) were investigated. The volumetric polymerization shrinkage of the composites during light curing was measured using a laboratory-made volume shrinkage measurement instrument based on the Archimedes' principle, and the polymerization stress was also determined with the strain gage method. The shrinkage of silorane-based composites (P90) was the lowest, and that of Z350 flowable was the highest. Peak polymerization shrinkage rate was the lowest in P90 and the highest in Z350 flowable. The time to reach peak shrinkage rate of P90 was longer than those of the methacrylate-based composites. The polymerization shrinkage stress of P90 was lower than those of the methacrylate-based composites.

It is not easy to predict the shrinkage rate of a plastic injection mold in its design process. The shrinkage rate should be considered as one of the important performances to produce the reliable products. The shrinkage rate can be determined by using the CAE tools in the design produces. However, since the analysis can take minutes to hours, the high computational costs of performing the analysis limit their use in design optimization. Therefore this study was carried out to presume for mutual relation of analysis condition to get the optimum average shrinkage by regression analysis. The results shown that coefficient of determination of regression equation has a fine reliability over 87% and regression equation of average shrinkage is made by regression analysis.

Shrinkage is inevitable in the curing of resins during the nanoimprint process. The degree of shrinkage that occurs as the resin transforms from a viscous liquid to solid differs depending on the type of resin. However, if the cured material is repeatedly cured using the same material, constant shrinkage can be confirmed. In this study, the pattern of change was observed by repeatedly performing the nanoimprint process using a resin with a constant shrinkage rate. The observed pattern for the change of shape was made using a triangular pyramid-shaped aluminum master mold and a flexible replica mold made from the master. Shrinkage that results from the nanoimprint process occurs linearly in the longitudinal direction of the pattern and can be predicted by simple calculations. The change of the pattern due to shrinkage occurred as expected. If the shrinkage rate remains constant, various patterns can be manufactured with high accuracy by correcting these changes before producing a specific shape. This study confirms that the pattern of the desired angle can be obtained by performing the repeated imprint without having to manufacture a master mold.
In this study, autogenous shrinkage strain and prediction models of concrete specimens were compared with strength level and development rate. Also, concrete autogeneous shrinkage under various curing conditions was investigated. The results showed that autogeneous shrinkage increased as concrete strength increased. However, when the concrete strength was almost identical, the initial autogeneous shrinkage of OPC was larger than BFS, but the final autogeneous shrinkage of BFS was larger than OPC. Early wet curing reduced autogeneous shrinkage strain. Especially, when the early wet curing was applied for more than 24 hours, final autogeneous shrinkage was significantly reduced. The results showed that the existing EC2 models do not reflect concrete properties properly. Therefore, the revised model was proposed to better predict autogeneous shrinkage.
