This study was conducted to obtain basic information on mainstem, branch and leaf characteristics related to canopy for development of high yielding cultivar using 70 Korean soybean cultivars developed from 1913 to 2000. Variations of canopy width, branch length, and canopy width/length ratio were higher compared to other characteristics among 12 mainstem and branch characters. Variations of petiole angle, leaflet width/length ratio and compound leaf dry weight were higher than other characteristics among eight leaf characters related to plant canopy. Three classifications of soybean cultivars were used based on usage: I)soy sauce and tofu, II)bean sprout, and III)cooking with rice. Canopy width/length ratio was higher in group III, cooking with rice than group I, soy sauce and tofu, and group II, bean sprout, and there was no difference between the two, group I and group II. The total branch length/main stem height ratio was higher in group II, bean sprout and group III, cooking with rice than group I, soy sauce and tofu. Mainstem and branch characteristics related to plant canopy were classified into four groups by ratio of canopy width/length and total branch length/main stem length, respectively. Soybean cultivars with narrow canopy and high dependence of mainstem were Danweonkong, Keumkangkong, Shelby, and Shinpaldalkong. Soybean cultivars with broad canopy and high dependence of mainstem were Kanglim, Keumkangdaelip, and Jinyulkong, and a cultivar with broad canopy and high dependence of branch were Geomjeongkong 2. Leaflet length/width ratio was lowest in cooking with rice and there was no difference between soy sauce and tofu and bean sprout. Compound leaf area was largest in cooking with rice and smallest in bean sprout. Leaf petiole length was short in bean sprout and there was no difference between soy sauce and tofu and bean sprout. Leaf petiole angle was highest in cooking with rice and lowest in bean sprout. Leaf type was classified into four groups based on leaflet width/length ratio and compound leaf area, respectivly. Buseok and Taekwangkong had an oval leaflet and largest area of compound leaf. Eunhakong and Sohokong had extreme narrow leaflet and smallest area of compound leaf. Leaf petiole type was classified into three and four groups based on leaf petiole length and angle, respectively. A soybean cultivar with the shortest petiole length and smallest petiole angle was Eunhakong and cultivars with short petiole length and large petiole angle were Alchankong, Muhankong, and Pureunkong. A soybean cultivar with long petiole length and small petiole angle was Sinpaldalkong 2. Among a total of 70 Korean soybean cultivars, Eunhakong had an extreme narrow type in leaf, smallest compound leaf area, shortest petiole length, and smallest petiole angle of compound leaf.
Juniperus chinensis var. sargentii Henry is a short and creeping evergreen shrub which reaches about 50㎝ in height and occurs in the northeast Asia and in high mountains over the South Korea. Its distribution is restricted, and the number of individuals are gradually decreasing. This study was conducted to estimate spatial pattern, genetic diversity and spatial genetic structure of J. chinensis var. sargentii. A total of 131 clumps were studied in the study area (40m × 60m). The spatial pattern of this population was random (Aggregation index R=1.031). In spite of the small number and the limited distribution, the level of genetic diversity (Shannon's index 1=0.463) was relatively high as compared with those of other plant species with similar ecological characteristics. ISSR genotypes of all individuals were investigated to find the genetic relationship of clumps and genets. Fifteen clumps were composed to be clones, and a total of 116 unique genotypes were composed by separate genets. Spatial autocorrelation analysis using Tanimoto distance showed that the genetic patch was established within 8m. The effect of clonal reproduction on genetic structure was almost nothing.

A new orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) variety named "Kordione" has developed by the National Livestock Research Institute (NLRI) in 2005. To develope a new variety of orchardgrass, 5 superior clones were selected and polycrossed for seed production. Various agronomic growth paramaters and forage production of "Kordione" were examined at Suwon from 2001 to 2002. During 2003-2005, regional trials were conducted at Suwon, Pyungchang, Youngju, Iksan, and Jeju. "Kordione" showed a medium type growth habit in fall and spring, and short in length of flag leaf and upper internode. Plant height of "Kordione" was similar to that of standard variety, "Ambassador" and heading date was 2 days later than 10th May compared to Ambassador. "Kordione" showed enhanced winter hardiness, lodging tolerance and disease resistance compared to Ambassador. In addition, dry matter yield (12,081 kg/ha) of "Kordione" was also higher (11%) than that of the Amabassador. However, nutritive value was similar in both varieties.

Korditwo is a new orchardgrass(Dactylis glomerata L.) variety developed by the National Institute of Animal Science(NIAS) in 2005. To develope the new variety of orchardgrass, 5 superior clones, Dg8533, Dg9518, EDg9133, U8504 and U8519, were selected and polycrossed for seed production. That synthetic variety was designated newly as "Korditwo", and it's agronomic growth characteristics and forage productivity were examined at Suwon from 2001 to 2002, and regional yield trials were conducted in Suwon, Pyungchang, Youngju, Iksan, and Jeju from 2003 to 2005, respectively. "Korditwo" showed medium type growth habit in fall and spring and short in length of flag leaf and upper internode. Plant height of "Korditwo" was similar to that of standard variety, "Ambassador" and heading date was 4 days later than 14th May compared to Ambassador. Characteristics such as winter hardiness, lodging tolerance, disease resistance of "Korditwo" were stronger or better than those of Ambassador, specially in winter hardiness and lodging tolerance. "Korditwo" showed 10% higher dry matter yield(11.3 ton/ha) compared to Amabassador. Nutritive value was appeared to be similar in both varieties.
This study was conducted to investigate the desalinizing effect of some vegetable crops (beet, crown daisy, kale, lettuce, spinach, sweet com, and tomato) in salinized soil. The soil was treated with highly concentrated nutrient solutions and the growth of these crops was compared and soil salinity was monitored. The plant height of lettuce and crown daisy inhibited severely in with EC $5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ salinized soil. Soil EC level was the lowest in soil where tomato was cultivated followed by corn and kale. The residual level of $NO_3$ was higher in soils used for cultivation of corn, tomato, and kale, that of K was higher in soils used for cultivation of corn, tomato, and beet, and That of $P_2O_5$ was higher in soils used for cultivation of corn and tomato. Although the desalinizing effect was greatest by tomato and corn after 60 days of cultivation. Quality of the these crops was low and the cultivation periods of these crops overlapped with that of the main crops. Kale, on the other hand showed less growth inhibition in salinized soil, greatest desalinating effect based on fresh weight. In addition this crop only needs 30 days of cultivation period. Therefore, kale was most efficient crop in desalinizing considering crop quality, a short cultivation period, and nonoverlapping cultivation time with the main crops.
A new cultivar $Dendranthema$$grandiflourm$ 'Dream Water' was developed at Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Korea in 2009. The cultivar has single type with ivory petals. Trial evaluation was conducted from 2006 to 2009 for selection of this variety, including a shading culture in spring and a retarding culture in summer. The flowering time of 'Dream Water' was October 24th, and year-round flowering is possible by shading or lighting treatment. The diameter of the flower is 56.0 mm. Number of flowers per stem and petals per flower are 11.1 and 26.8, respectively. Its leaf color was green (Green Group 147A) and plant height was 89.7 cm. Days to flowering under the short day treatment is about 54 in spring, and diameter of flower center was 1.4 cm in the summer. The vase life was 16.7 days in autumn and consumer's preference of new spray chrysanthemum is high level than control.

A new cultivar Dendranthema grandiflourm 'Dream Round' was developed at Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services (GARES), Korea in 2010. The variety 'Dream Round' was initially derived from a cross in 2006 between 'Hebo' a seed parent, a spray chrysanthemum cultivar with white anemone type, and 'Samos' as a pollen parent, a spray chrysanthemum variety with white anemone type. The cultivar has anemone type with white petals. Trial evaluation was conducted from 2008 to 2010 for the selection of that cultivar, including a shading culture in spring and a retarding culture in summer. The flowering time of 'Dream Round' was October 24th, and year-round flowering was possible by shading or lighting treatment. The diameter of flower of 'Dream Round' was 34.1 mm. Numbers of flowers per stem and petals per flower of 'Dream Round' were 12.8 and 26.1, respectively. Its leaf color was green (Green Group 147A) and plant height was 92.4 cm. Days to flowering of 'Dream Round' under the short day treatment was about 54 in spring, and diameter of flower of 'Dream Round' was 34.2 mm in the summer. The vase life of 'Dream Round' was 21.7 days in autumn.
Thuja koraiensis Nak. is a short and creeping evergreen shrub which reaches about 3 m in height and only occurs in the northeast China and in high mountains over the Korea. It's designated as a rare and endangered tree species in Korea and DD (data deficient) in Red List Category & Criteria of IUCN. This study was carried out to develop the propagation technique by cutting for conservation of genetic resources of T. koraiensis. The rooting responses of branch cuttings, obtained from hard (May) and semi-hard wood shots (August) to three plant growth regulators (PGRs), namely, IAA, IBA, and NAA applied at various concentrations (0, 100, 500, 1000, 2000, and 3000 mg/l) were examined in sand and mixed soil media. Percentage of rooting showed significant difference between cutting time, among kinds and among concentration of PGRs. The optimum cutting time was April to May in hardwood cutting. The application of IAA 1000 mg/l and NAA 500mg/l were effective in callus formation and rooting of cutting. Relatively, rooting of cutting of the control taken in May was above 93%.
Weeding measures is an important issue for cereal crop because weed is superior to crops in early growth stage and there are not many herbicides applicable to cereal crop. Since the concern about well-being and eco-environmental products are increasing, cultivation with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is needed. Five treatments included as weed-free, control (not remove weed) and covering with polyvinyl chloride removed 20, 30, 40 DAS (day after seeding). At removing PVC, plant height did not differ depending on the growth stage. However, weed-free plot by weed competition were somewhat short. And, removing PVC accelerated the earlier by 2-3 day than weed-free plot. Soil moisture which removed from the control was higher than 20, 30, 40 DAS and weed-free, and it was kept low by evaporation. The chlorophyll meter of weed-free plot was 34.3, 30 DAS was 40.6 at heading time. Weed-free showed that increased in weed population $300.8g\;m^{-2}$. Weed control value of 20 DAS, 30 DAS, 40 DAS were 86.5%, 84.0% and 74.8%, respectively. In 30 DAS, yield of foxtail millet according to treatment of removing PVC were $355kg\;10a^{-1}$. At weed competition early in 30 DAS, the removing PVC was good for control. Thus, 30 DAS was judged to be suitable.

Synthetic seeds were examined on the agronomic growth characteristics and forage production at Suwon from 1995 to 1998, and regional trials were conducted in Suwon, Namwon and Pyungchang from 1999 to 2002 and Jeju from 2000 to 2002, respectively. “Jangbeol 101” showed semi-erect growth habit in fall and spring and medium type in length of flag leaf and upper internode. Plant height of “Jangbeol 101” was short compared to that of standard variety, “Ambassador” and heading date was delayed about 2 days as 14th May compared to Ambassador. Characters such as winter hardiness, regrowth, moisture tolerance, disease resistance of “Jangbeol 101” were stronger or better than those of Ambassador. “Jangbeol 101” showed 9% higher dry matter yield as 12,374 kg/ha compared to Amabassador. Nutritive value was appeared to be similar in both varieties.
