  • The pulse power system has been widely used to many applications. such as E/P(Electrostatic Precipitator), DeNOx/DeSOx power system, ozon generator. etc. A pulse energy efficiency for load depend on the rising time, peak value, pulse duration, impedance matching. etc. The pulse generator generally required for short pulse duration, high peak value was forced to consider its size and economy. In this study, developing a compact pulse generator that applied for Cascading method to be made of two pulse transformer, we compared cascading voltage with no cascading one by applying the pulse energy to load.

  • The calculation of depth and duration of a sag is in both methods based on two simple assumptions. One is that due to the short circuit, the voltage drops to a low value immediately magnitude. Another is that when the fault is cleared. the voltage recovers immediately. These assumptions, however, do not hold in the case of a substantial part of the load consisting of electrical motors like in many industrial power systems. During the short circuit, the motors will slow down. Their reacceleration after the fault will increase the load current and thus prolong the voltage sag. This paper will discuss some of the aspects of the influence of induction motors on voltage sags.

  • There are 3 systems in incentive-based normal load management in Korea; day or hour-ahead, week-ahead, months-ahead. These are originally similar in their operational implementation, but differ in their pre-notification period. Therefore the incentive of these systems should be different according to prenotification period. This is the key problem in implementing these load managements. Customers participating in these load managements feel their economic differences, depending on the risk by prenotification dates. The shorter prenotification period, the more risk take the customers. This paper proposes the method of incentive variation in prenotification difference, by using the theory of financial yield curve, which is used in analysing short and long duration bond interesting rates and is reflecting risk premium in their period.

  • The dynamic analysis of stability in industrial power system is an important subject. In this paper, the effect of voltage dips for short duration (short-circuit) in the utility system on generators, synchronous motors of the industrial plant and the measures to be adopted to reduce the undesired effects of voltage dips re investigated. In the case of utility three-phase short-circuits of longer duration, both the generators and synchronous motors in the plant may become unstable. In order to avoid instability through fault clearing in the second zone time a decoupling device is necessary. The instability of voltage can be avoided with a well suited setting time of disconnecting device and load trip.

  • In this study, effectiveness of seismic retrofitting methods using passive damping devices was investigated through numerical analyses of short-period structures under earthquakes which have short-duration and high-frequency impulse characteristics similar to Geyongju earthquakes. Displacement spectra of elastic systems and ductility demand of inelastic systems were evaluated by increasing viscous or friction damping. The damping devices could reduce responses of the structures with shorter structural period than 0.2s. The earthquakes similar to impulse load did not induce the responses of the structures with longer period than 0.4s, and the effects of the damping devices which generates damping forces proportional to structural responses became insignificant.

  • A surface encoder based on the Half-shaded square pattern (HSSP) is presented. The HSSP working as reference grid is composed of the straight lines which are easy to be fabricated and make measuring time short. Since the periodic cell is separated in ON/OFF by the $45^{\circ}$ straight line, the duration from the starting point of scanning to the first rising edge and the duty cycle of the pulse train vary with respect to the position of the starting point. And the relationship between X and Y position and the duration, and duty cycle is described in the simple linear equation. Therefore, it is possible to measure X and Y position with the measured duration and duty cycle without calculating load. Through the test set-up, the feasibility of the proposed surface encoder was verified. Also the future works for improvement of performance were suggested.

  • A distributed virtual environment (DVE) allows multiple geographically distributed objects to interact concurrently in a shared virtual space. Most DVE applications use a non-replicated server architecture, which dynamically partitions a virtual space. An important issue in this system is effective scalability as the number of users increases. However, it is hard to provide suitable load balancing because of the unpredictable movements of users and hot-spot locations. Therefore, we propose a mechanism for sharing roles and separating service regions. The proposed mechanism reduces unnecessary partitions of short duration and supports efficient load balancing.

  • This paper illustrates newly an outage cost impact index function(OCIIF). The assessment of the OCIIF is described using the Web Based Online Real-time Outage Cost Assessment and Information System(WOROCAIS) for power system outage cost assessment in Korea. The proposed OCIIF is not absolute but relative outage cost impact index function in view point of outage time using web based survey method for outage cost assessment. While conventional methodology does not consider short time outage cost assessment, the proposed OCIIF reflects short time outage. SCOF(Sector Customer Outage Function) in stead of the traditional SCDF(Sector Customer Damage Function) is defined and proposed newly in this paper. Based the SCOF, AVLL(Average Value of Loss Load) is newly proposed. The OCIIF is demonstrated by WOROCAIS in case study around 2,000 sample data surveyed by KEPCO in South Korea in recent.

  • When solving the problems of electric power quality the converters with high Power factor are useful for the DC arc furnace power supply. In this paper, resonant converters of 50(60) Hz AC to DC arc described, where in each period of network voltage the capacitor and inductor of an oscillatory circuit are switched from series into parallel and vice versa parametrically. The duration of series and parallel connection and also the transformation ratio are dependent on load. Parallel oscillatory circuit restricts the short circuit current. These converters have high power factor from no-load to short-circuit and fit very well to supply are furnaces.

  • Guided missiles assembled with the bolted joint are subjected to various shock loading conditions while flying in the air and operating on the ground or platform. Especially, It is important to analyze the effect of the shock load on the structure because it affects the structure for a short duration time while its acceleration magnitude is quite large. In this study, mechanical shock tests on the structure with the bolted joint have been carried out to measure the acceleration changes of the structure against external shock loads by electrical exciter. Variation of dynamic characteristics of a structure with fastening methods and fastening forces has been investigated through Shock Response Spectrum analysis.
