  • Navier-Stokes computation based on a new simplified model is proposed to investigate the interactions of a moving shock wave with multiple vortices arranged in the serial manner. This model problem simulates shock-vortexlet interactions at the shear layer of a compressible vortex often observed in the experiment. Applying the Foppl's idea, we extended the Rankin's model generally used for the description of a single vortex to the multi-vortex version. The acoustic pulses accelerated and decelerated are successively generated and propagated from each shock-vortex interaction, which simply explains the genesis of eccentrically diverging acoustic waves appearing in the experimental photograph.

  • The goal of this paper is to investigate the generation characteristics of the main impulsive noise sources generated by the supersonic flow discharging from a muzzle. For this, this paper investigates two fundamental mechanisms to sound generation in shocked flows: shock motion and shock deformation. Shock motion is modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a sound wave with a shock. The numerical approach is validated by comparison with results obtained by linear theory for a small disturbance case. Shock deformations are modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a vortex ring with a blast wave. A numerical approach of a dispersion-relation-preserving(DRP) scheme is used to investigate the sound generation and propagation by their interactions in near-field.

  • Shock wave interaction with droplet-gas medium is investigated in this paper. In the present computation, the shock wave is initially started in a pure gas and reflected from the wedge to interact with the droplet-ridden gas flows. We used the compressible two-fluid two-phase model that is solved by the two-fluid version of the HLL scheme. The interfacial drag force and heat transfer were included to model the interaction between continuous and dispersed phases. The parametric effect of void fraction on the shock wave reflection in the two-phase media was investigated.

  • Shock wave boundary layer interactions can make flows around a vehicle be very high pressure and temperature due to pass shock waves in small areas of the hypersonic vehicle. These phenomena can affect a critical problem in the design of hypersonic vehicles. To research the effect of shock wave boundary layer interactions, comer flows were studied in this paper using numerical studies with the NSMB (Navier-Stokes Multi Block) solver and then comparing corresponding numerical results with experimental data of the Huston High Speed Flow Field Workshop II. The mach number of flows is 12.3 in comer flows. The comparison with the computational result is presented based on diverse numerical schemes. Good agreement is obtained.

  • The purpose of this paper is the study on the characteristics of an inlet system with shock/boundary layer interactions by using various types of bumps which are substituted for the conventional bleeding system in supersonic inlet. in this study a comprehensive numerical analysis has been performed to understand the three-dimensional flow field including shock/boundary layer interaction and growth of turbulent boundary layer that might occur around a three-dimensional bump in a supersonic inlet. The characteristics of boundary layer seen in the current numerical simulations indicate the potential capability of a three-dimensional bump to control shock/boundary layer interaction in supersonic inlets.

  • In this paper we consider a Riemann problem, in particular, the case of the presence of the semi-hyperbolic patches arising from a transonic shock in simple waves interaction. Under this circumstance, we construct global solutions of the two-dimensional Riemann problem of the pressure gradient system. We approach the problem as a Goursat boundary value problem and a mixed initial-boundary value problem, where one of the boundaries is the transonic shock.

  • We study a conceptual numerical model on shock-vortex interaction setting an impulsive shock in a compressible vertex. Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the investigation of interactive structure and acoustic wave propagation. The rotationally symmetric vortex enforces two compression-expansion pairs resultantly forming a quadrupolar shape. These compressive and expansive waves cylindrically propagate to the far field and turn to acoustic waves. Using a fine uniform Cartesian grid system and a TVD-high resolution method, the flow data irl: precisely obtained to extend our interest to the sound source.

  • we performed the underwater explosion analysis for the liquefied oxygen tank - a kind of fuel tank of a mid-size submarine, and tried to verify the structural safety for this structure. First, we reviewed the theory and application of underwater explosion analysis using Structure-Fluid Interaction technique and its finite element modeling scheme. Next, we modeled the explosive and sea water as fluid elements, the LOX tank as structural elements and the interface between two regions as ALE scheme. The effect on shock pressure and impulse of fluid mesh size and shape are also investigated. As the analysis result, the shock pressure due explosion propagated into the water region and hit the structure region. The plastic deformation and the equivalent stress highly appeared at the web frame and the shock mount of LOX structure, but these values were acceptable for design criteria.

  • A passive control of interaction of condensation shock wave / boundary layer for reducing the strength of condensation shock was conducted experimentally in a 2.5 * 8 cm$^{2}$ indraft type supersonic wind tunnel. The effects of following factors on passive control were investigated: 1) the thickness of porous wall, 2) the diameter of porous hole, and 3) the orientation of porous hole. On the other hand, the location of nonequilibrium condensation region and condensation shock wave was controlled by regulation of the stagnation conditions. Surface static pressure measurements as well as Schlieren observations of the flow field were obtained, and their effects were compared with the results the cases of without passive control. It was found that thinner porous wall, smaller porous hole and FFH orientation for the same cavity size and porosity of 12% are more favourable than the cases of its opposite.
