국내 주요 선박관리기업의 효율성 분석에 관한 연구 (Efficiency Analysis of Korean Major Ship Management Corporations)

  • 해운업의 효율성과 관련된 연구접근은 해상운송과 컨테이너 항만에 치우쳐 있어 선박관리업과 관련된 연구는 찾아보기 힘든 실정이다. 이러한 측면에서 본 연구에서는 국내주요 선박관리업 회사의 효율성을 비교 분석하여 효율성방안을 제시하는 것을 연구목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 DEA를 통해 효율성 분석을 실시했다. 분석대상은 2011년 외국적선, 국적선으로 분류한 뒤 상위 매출액 10개 기업을 선정했다. 효율성 분석을 위해 관리선박 척수를 투입변수로 선정했으며, 선원 수, 매출액을 산출변수로 선정했다. 분석 결과, 외국적선의 해영선박 국적선의 범진상운, 대한해운, 에스티엑스마린서비스, 우림선박이 효율성 1.00으로 높게 분석되었으며 또한 BDI지수와 How Robinson Container Index의 3년간 연평균(2009~2011년)과 동기간 효율성과 매출액의 상관관계를 분석한 결과, 효율성 보다는 매출액이 해상운임지수에 탄력적인 것으로 나타났다.

  • 부산의 해운비즈니스 산업은 항만물류 중심으로 영세하며, 지역적으로 분산되어 산업시너지를 창출해 내고 있지 못한 실정이다. 부산의 해운비즈니스 산업을 집적화하고 고부가가치 해운서비스 산업을 부산에 유치하기 위한 해운비즈니스 클러스터 집적화 단지의 조성 필요성에 따라 본 연구는 집적화 단지의 조성방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 부산 및 수도권의 해운비지니스업체를 대상으로 집적화 단지의 수요를 조사하여 부산신항 중심의 명지지역에 부산 지역의 산업체와 행정기관 및 교육연구기관의 이전 집적화와 국내외 산업체 및 관련기관을 유치하는 집적화 조성 전략을 제시하고 집적화 단지의 경제적 기대효과를 산정하였다.

외항선사의 성과개선 구축전략에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Study on the Performance Improvement Strategy for Korean Shipping Companies by the Balance Score-card)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 국적외항선사들이 불확실한 국내외 해운환경변화에 적절히 대처할 수 있는 성과개선전략을 구축하는 데 있다. 이러한 목적을 위해 첫째로, 외항선사이 직면하고 있는 환경에 대처하여 성과를 개선할 수 있는 변수를 BSC의 네 관점에서 추출하여 이들 간의 관련성여부를 구조방정식 모형에 의해 분석하였다. 분석결과에 의하면, 학습 성장관점은 내부프로세스에 영향을 미치고 이는 다시 운항서비스를 제공하는 고객관점에 영향을 미치어 신규항로개발에 의한 물동량 창출, 재무적 안성성유지 및 항로수익성 제고 등의 재무적 관점요인에 영향을 미치는 것으로 인식되고 있다. 이러한 분석결과는 학습 성장관점, 내부프로세스관점 및 고객 관점과 같은 비계량적이고 비재무적변수가 외항선사의 성과개선에 기여하는 중요변수임을 시사하는 것으로 이에 대한 체계적인 관리가 필요하다.

  • Scientific and technological progress is also fundamental to the evolving merchant shipping industry, both in terms of the size and speed of modern ships and in the level of their technical capabilities. While the freight performance of ships is growing, the number of crew on board is steadily decreasing, as more work processes are being automated through the implementation of information technologies, including ship management systems. Although there have been repeated appeals from international maritime organizations to focus on building effective maritime security defenses against cyber attacks, the problems have remained unresolved. Owners of shipping companies do not disclose information about cyberattack attempts or incidents against them due to fear of commercial losses or consequences, such as loss of image, customer and insurance claims, and investigations by independent international organizations and government agencies. Issues of cybersecurity of control systems in the world today have gained importance, due to the fact that existing threats concern not only the security of technical means and devices, but also issues of environmental safety and safety of life at sea. The article examines the implementation of cyber risk management in the shipping industry, providing recommendations for the safe ship operation and its systems in order to improve vulnerability to external threats related to cyberattacks, and to ensure the safety and security of such a technical object as a seagoing ship.

해운의 다국적 경영 : 편의치적 (Multinational Management in Shipping : Flag of Convenience)

  • Over the past fifty years, the share of the World's shipping fleet operating under open registry has grown from 4 % to almost half of the total tonnage. While there has been strong opposition based on the costs of maritime disasters and opposition both from the traditional maritime nations, which have suffered erosion of their fleets, and from labour unions, which point to worker exploitation, the shipping companies have found the greater operational and financial flexibility which accompanies open registry to be a considerable attraction The paper consists of seven sections. Section 1 explains the background and of the study. Section 2 reviews the characteristics and definition of FOC. Section 3 is to identify ship register categories and their competitive conditions. Section 4 tackles the emerging forces of globalisation-the advent of FOC. Section 5 deals with legal maritime framework. Section 6 tackles the current structure and characteristics of FOC vessels. Some concluding comments follow in the last section.

Changes in Block Exemption Applied to Maritime Transport and its Implication

  • This study reviews maritime transport policy regarding liner conference and the changes in the liner market over the decades. Liner shipping industry has long been protected from competition by block exemption. To prevent excessive competition in punctual operation and its inelastic market structure, liner shipping companies formed conferences that are protected to fix the prices under the law. In the US, deregulation in transport sector began from 80's and continuing with OSRA 1998, conferences were dissolving. On the other hand, the EU with close conference system, Regulation 4056/86 contained block exemption remained in force for unlimited time without review clause. However, in Oct 2008, the EU has announced its removal, and conferences were no longer permitted to fix the price nor exchange information. Although OSRA 1998 has already broken up conferences by allowing individual service contracts, but the repeal of the immunity for price fixing will alter significantly the rule on cooperation in the industry since it is a unilateral move by the EU, especially in transatlantic lane. There are rapid changes in shipping market getting much more complicated, and with removal of 4056/86 allowing the market to be more competitive, opening up the industry with far more diverse strategic options. Hence this paper reviews on liner shipping industry and its changes of policies over the years from protected market to open competition market of today.

SNA를 활용한 정기선사의 전략적 제휴 재편에 따른 항만 네트워크 변화 분석 (Analysis of Port Connectivity Network Change on the Effect of Liner Shipping Alliance Restructuring Using SNA)

  • This study analyzes how the port connectivity network has changed with the restructuring of the liner shipping alliance and explores the impact of these changes on network characteristics using social network analysis (SNA). While due to economies of scale, the scale of ports and liner shipping has expanded, the goal of shipping companies has changed to achieve cost-effectiveness due to the diseconomies of scale. Such changes in the environment have greatly affected ports according to the strategies of major liner alliances, and port centrality has shifted in response to restructuring in strategic alliances. This research confirmed that port centrality has continuously changed, and the reason for this phenomenon was analyzed through the derived main network centrality indices. This finding provides significant implications for port authorities and terminal operators to consider different perspectives when planning for sustainable growth and management.

토픽모델링을 활용한 해운물류 뉴스 분석 (Analysis of Shipping and Logistics News Articles using Topic Modeling)

  • This study focuses on three logistics-related news (Logistics Newspaper, Korea Shipping Gadget, and Korea Shipping Newspaper) in order to present changes in logistics issues, centering on Corona 19, which has recently had the greatest impact in the world. For data collection, two-year news articles in 2019 and 2020 (title, article, content, date, article classification, article URL) were collected through web crawling (using Python's BeautifulSoup, requests module) on the homepages of three representative logistics-related media companies. As for the data analysis methods, fundamental statistical analysis, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) for topic modeling, and Scattertext were performed. The analysis results were as follows. First, among the three news media related to logistics, the Korea Shipping Newspaper was carrying out the most active media activities. Second, through topic modeling with LDA, eight logistics-related topics were identified, and keywords and significant issues of each topic were presented. Third, the keywords were visually expressed through Scattertext. This is the first study to present changes in the logistics field, focusing on articles from representative logistics-related media in 2019 and 2020. In particular, 2019 and 2020 can be divided into before and after the outbreak of Corona 19, which has had a great impact not only on the logistics field but also on our lives as a whole. For future work, a multi-faceted approach is required, such as comparative studies of logistics issues between countries or presenting implications based on long-term time-series articles.

  • The recent trend in shipbuilding technology is toward development of highly economical vessels of which construction and operation costs are minimized, whereas cargo transport capacity is maximized. But, most of the vessel which are now operated by some of the nation's shipping companies are uneconomical ones built before oil crisis and consequently the companies are suffering from long-lasted deficit problem. In this paper, derivation study of optimum vessel for multi purpose cargo vessel on south-East Asian trade route is carried out to solve this problem. The Required Freight Rate is used as a measure of merits.
