The objective of this study is to recommend the radiation protection design parameters from the shielding point of view for concrete wall between the decay tank room and the primary pump room in TRIGA Mark-II Research Reactor Facility. The shield design for this concrete wall has been performed with the help of Point-kernel Shielding Code Micro-Shield 5.05 and this design was also validated based on the measured dose rate values with Radiation Survey Meter (G-M Counter) considering the ICRP-60 (1990) recommendations for occupational dose rate limit ($10{\mu}Sv/hr$). The recommended shield design parameters are: (i) thickness of 114.3 cm Ilmenite-Magnetite Concrete (IMC) or 129.54 cm Ordinary Reinforced Concrete (ORC) for concrete wall A (ii) thickness of 66.04 cm Ilmenite-Magnetite Concrete (IMC) or 78.74 cm Ordinary Reinforced Concrete (ORC) for concrete wall B and (iii) door thickness of 3.175 cm Mild Steel (MS) on the entrance of decay tank room. In shielding efficiency analysis, the use of I-M concrete in the design of this concrete wall shows that it reduced the dose rate by a factor of at least 3.52 times approximately compared to ordinary reinforced concrete.

A lead slowing-down spectrometer (LSDS) system is a promising nondestructive assay technique that enables a quantitative measurement of the isotopic contents of major fissile isotopes in spent nuclear fuel and its pyroprocessing counterparts, such as $^{235}U$, $^{239}Pu$, $^{241}Pu$, and, potentially, minor actinides. The LSDS system currently under development at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Daejeon, Korea) is planned to utilize a high-flux ($>10^{12}n/cm^2{\cdot}s$) neutron source comprised of a high-energy (30 MeV)/high-current (~2 A) electron beam and a heavy metal target, which results in a very intense and complex radiation field for the facility, thus demanding structural shielding to guarantee the safety. Optimization of the structural shielding design was conducted using MCNPX for neutron dose rate evaluation of several representative hypothetical designs. In order to satisfy the construction cost and neutron attenuation capability of the facility, while simultaneously achieving the aimed dose rate limit (< $0.06{\mu}Sv/h$), a few shielding materials [high-density polyethylene (HDPE)eBorax, $B_4C$, and $Li_2CO_3$] were considered for the main neutron absorber layer, which is encapsulated within the double-sided concrete wall. The MCNP simulation indicated that HDPE-Borax is the most efficient among the aforementioned candidate materials, and the combined thickness of the shielding layers should exceed 100 cm to satisfy the dose limit on the outside surface of the shielding wall of the facility when limiting the thickness of the HDPE-Borax intermediate layer to below 5 cm. However, the shielding wall must include the instrumentation and installation holes for the LSDS system. The radiation leakage through the holes was substantially mitigated by adopting a zigzag-shape with concrete covers on both sides. The suggested optimized design of the shielding structure satisfies the dose rate limit and can be used for the construction of a facility in the near future.

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) usually means High Power Electromagnetic Wave (HPEM). In the case of the shielding plate against the EMP, there is a possibility of deterioration of the electromagnetic wave shielding performance due to the skill of the constructor, bad construction, deformation of the shielding plate at the connection portion (joint portion). The inefficient use of space due to the separation distance is also pointed out as a problem. Therefore, this study aims to derive the optimum electromagnetic shielding condition by applying ATMSM to concrete as a part of securing electromagnetic wave shielding performance with reflection loss against concrete wall. Experimental parameters included concrete wall thickness and application of Zn-Al ATMSM. For the concrete wall, the wall thickness was 100 to 300mm, which is generally applied, and experimental parameters were set for the application of Zn-Al metal spraying method to evaluate electromagnetic shielding performance. Experimental results showed that as the thickness increases, the electromagnetic shielding performance increases due to the increase of absorption loss. In addition, after the application of Zn-Al ATMSM, the average shielding performance increased by 56.68 dB on average, which is considered to be increased by the reflection loss of the ATMSM. In addition, it is considered that the shielding performance will be better than that when the conductive mixed material and the ATMSM are simultaneously applied.

KHNP(Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Ltd., Co.) is developing a HIC transport package which is satisfying domestic and IAEA regulations and NETEC(Nuclear Environment Technology Institute) is conducting a conceptual design. In this study, the shielding thickness was calculated using the data from radionuclide assay program which is currently using in nuclear sites and Micro Shield code. Considering the structural safety, carbon steel was chosen as shielding material and the shielding thickness was calculated for 500 R/hr and 100 R/hr at HIC surface, respectively. Through the shielding analysis, it was evaluated that the regulation limit is satisfied when the shielding thickness is 22 cm for 500 R/hr and 17 cm for 100/hr.
Space radiation environments depend on satellite mission orbit, period, and date, and it can be predicted by simulation. Total Ionizing Dose(TID) can be predicted by Dose-depth Curve which only inform the dose level depending on the shielding thickness. So detail effective shielding analysis considering real structure is necessary to predict part level TID. For this purpose, program is developed to calculate shielding thickness distribution by structure modeling and ray trace from certain point in the structure. Finally TID at certain point in the 3-dimensional structure can be calculated by integration of shielding distribution result and dose-depth curve data. Using this program, TID is analyzed at part level certain point by modeling of equipment box structure in the satellite.

In this study, an electromagnetic pulse shielding effect was obtained by applying the arc metal spraying method to the ordinary concrete. For this study, to evaluate the electrical properties in the thickness of the metal sprayed coating, 8 types of metals(Cu, CuAl, CuNi, CuZn, Al, Zn, ZnAl, AlMg) were sprayed as coatings with a thickness of 100, 200 and 500㎛. The electrical conductivity on the surface was measured with a 4-pin probe, and an electromagnetic wave shielding effect test was performed according to KS. Based on the test results, 200 ㎛ was proposed as an optimal metal coating thickness for electromagnetic pulse shielding, and it was thermally sprayed on a 300×300×100mm concrete specimen to analyze the electromagnetic wave shielding performance. However, in the area of adhesion strength, the maximum was 1.11MPa, which was found to be less than 74% of the target performance.

In this research, The basic physical properties and EMP shielding performance by thickness were evaluated for optimum composition of EMP shield concrete that can be applied on-site by mixing carbon-based materials with high conductivity into concrete that uses electric furnace oxidized slag (EOS). As a result of the evaluation, it was confirmed that the slump decreased as the amount of mixed carbon fib er (CF) increased, and increased when milled carb on (MCF) was mixed. As for the compressive strength, it was confirmed that EOS enhanced the strength compared to NA, and it was confirmed that the strength decreased when CF and MCF were mixed. As the thickness of the EMP shielding measurement increases, the shielding rate increases, and it was confirmed that the type of conductive material and the thickness of the test specimen have a greater influence on the shielding rate than the Amount of conductive material added. As a result of a comparative evaluation, EOS CF 0.2 is considered suitable for EMP shield concrete formulation.
The number of facilities using radiation generators increases and related regulations are strengthened, the establishment of a shielding management and evaluation technology has become important. The characteristics of the radiation generator used in previous report differ from those of currently available high-frequency radiation generators. This study aimed to manufacture lead, iron, and concrete shielding materials for the re-verification of half-value layers, tenth-value layers, and attenuation curve. For a comparison of attenuation ratio, iron, lead, and concrete shields were manufactured in this study. The initial dose was measured without shielding materials, and doses measured under different types and thicknesses of shielding material were compared with the initial dose to calculate the transmission rate on 50-300 kVp X-ray. All the three shielding materials showed a tendency to require greater shielding thickness for higher energy. The attenuation graph showed an exponential shape as the thickness decreased and a straight line as the thickness increased. The difference between the measurement results and the previous study, except in extrapolated parts, may be due to the differences in the radiation generation characteristics between the generators used in the two studies. The attenuated graph measured in this study better reflects the characteristics of current radiation generators, which would be more effective for shield designing.
High-energy proton accelerators continue to be increasingly used in medical, research and industrial settings. However, due to the high energy of protons, a large number of secondary radiation occurs. Among them, neutrons are accompanied by difficulties of shielding due to various energy distribution and permeability. So In this study, we propose a shielding method that can shield neutrons most efficiently by using multiple-shielding material used as a decelerating agent or absorbent as well as a single concrete shielding. The flux of secondary neutrons showed a greater decrease in the flux rate when heavy concrete was used than in the case of ordinary concrete, and the maximum flux reduction was observed at the front position when using multiple shields. Multiple shielding can increase shielding efficiency more than single shielding however, As the thickness of the multiple shielding materials increased, the decline in flux was saturated. The mixture material showed higher shielding results than the polyethylene when using boron carbonate.

In this paper, the shielding effectiveness of aluminum shielded room with using eddy-current is calculated and measured after fabricated. The size and thickness of shielded room are decided as $2.4{\times}2.4{\times}2.4[m^3]$ and 12[mm] after AC shielding characteristics by eddy-current of conductive materials is analyzed. To verify the shielding effectiveness, a rectangular helmholtz coil is fabricated to generate magnetic field of 1.37[${\mu}T$] and measured magnetic field inside shielding room for 0.01~10[Hz]. According to calculations and measurements, AC Shielding effectiveness by eddy-current in aluminum is very small for 0.01~2[Hz] and 5 times to 11 times for 5~10[Hz].
