  • The purpose of this paper is to study comparative analysis of cable dome structures by reinforcement effect with bracing and fabric. Tensegrity systems are stable structures which are reticulated spatial structures composed of compressive straight members, struts, and cables. Tensegrity structures need to be introduced to the initial stress for the self-equilibrated system to have a stable state. In this paper, the effect of reinforcement resisting the in-plan twisting is investigated for the Geiger-type and Zetlin-type models reinforced by bracing and fabric. The effect of initial imperfection is also studied because the structural instabilitity phenomenon of shell-like structures is very sensitive according to the initial condition. We study a more exact analysis concerning the structural instability of tensegrity structures using nonlinear analysis program. Then, two types of tensegrity models will be analysed and compared.

  • The exquisite structure and attractive biological properties of biominerals have great potential and increased interest for use in a wide range of medical and industrial applications. Calcium carbonate biomineralization, mainly controlled by shell matrix proteins, has been used as a representative model to understand the biomineralization mechanism. In this study, in vitro calcium carbonate crystallization was carried out under room temperature and atmospheric pressure using recombinant shell matrix protein GRP_BA and artificial shell matrix protein GG1234. Both proteins inhibited the growth of typical rhombohedral calcite crystals in the calcium carbonate crystallization using $CaCl_2$ solution and $(NH_4)_2CO_3$ vapor, and spherulitic calcite crystals with rosette-like structures were synthesized in both the presence of GRP_BA and GG1234. These results might be caused by the properties of block-like domain structure and intrinsically disordered proteins. We expect that this study can contribute to enhance understanding of the calcium carbonate biomineralization controlled by shell matrix proteins.

  • The aim of this paper is to propose that a category P is encapsulated within a functional layer above the lexical layer, just like vP containing a lexical VP. As is well known, the category P has long been in the obscure domain of syntactic studies: Marantz (2001) and den Dikken (2003), for example, argue that P is a lexical category, but Emonds (1985), Grimshaw (1991), and Baker (2003), maintain that the category P is functional and is a closed category without its own intrinsic meaning. On the other hand, Zwart (2005) argues that it does have some meaning. Following the works of Svenonius (2003, 2006, 2007), and the spirit of Rizzi's (1997) split CP hypothesis, we elaborate and develop Svenonius' idea of split-pP analysis with detailed schematic representations of the novel examples in English, Korean, and Chinese in this paper. Unlike Svenonius, however, this paper incorporates KP into pP-Shell, which is a substantial simplification. Furthermore, Chinese Localizers that have long been considered as Postpositions are now under the category of Prepositions. This proposal renders an X-bar theoretic consistency over the categorical status of Chinese phrasal structures. In short, the present analysis accounts for inconsistency found in English complex preposition phrase (Quirk, et al, 1972, 1985), Chinese circumposition phrase (Ernst 1988, Liu, 2002) and Korean postposition phrase in a unified and consistent manner. Furthermore, by proposing a finer-grained phrasal architecture for the category P, the controversial status of the category subsides within this analysis.

  • We present the results of HI 21 cm line observations to explore the nature of the high-velocity (HV) HI gas at - 173${\circ}$, which appears as faint, wing-like, Hi emission that extends to velocities beyond those allowed by Galactic rotation in the low-resolution surveys. We designate this feature as Forbidden Velocity Wing (FVW) 172.8+1.5. Our high-resolution Arecibo HI observations show that FVW 172.8+1.5 is composed of knots, filaments, and ring-like structures distributed over an area of a few degrees in extent. These HV HI emission features are well correlated with the HII complex G173+1.5, which is composed of five Sharpless HII regions distributed along a radio continuum loop of size 4.4${\times}$3.4, or -138 pc ${\times}$ 107 pc, at a distance of 1.8 kpc. G173+1.5 is one of the largest star-forming regions in the outer Galaxy. The HV HI gas and the radio continuum loop seem to trace an expanding shell. Its derived HI parameters including large expansion velocity (55 km/s) imply the SNR interpretation. Hot xray emission is detected within the HII complex, which also supports its SNR origin. The FVW172.8+1.5 is most likely the products of a supernova explosion(s) within the HII complex, possibly in a cluster that triggered the formation of these HII regions.

  • Many papers which deal with the dynamic instability of shell-like structures under the STEP load has been published but there have been few papers related to the dynamic instability of hybrid cable domes. And also there are a few researches which treat the essential phenomenon of the dynamic buckling using the phase for investigating occurrence of chaos. In this study the indirect buckling of hybrid cable domes considering geometric nonlinearity are investigated numerically and compared it with the static critical load The dynamic critical loads are determined by the numerical integration of the geometric nonlinear equation of motion and the mechanism of the indirect buckling is examined by using the phase curves.

  • Unlike structures in the air, the vibration analysis of a submerged or floating structure such as offshore structures or ships is possible only when the fluid-structure interaction is understood, as the whole or part of the structure is in contact with water. Specially, the importance of the added mass is not necessary to say like the submerged vehicle, all of the hull body, is positioned in the water. This paper introduce two method to find natural frequency in consideration of fluid-structure modal coupled vibration analysis. The purpose of this study is to analyze of the vibration characteristic of submerged vehicle to obtain the anti-vibration design data, which could be used in the preliminary design stage data. Underwater pressure hull of submerged vehicle is used as the model of this study. The F.E.M model is meshed by shell and beam element. Also, considering of the inner hull weight, mass element is distributed in the direction of hull length. Numerical calculations are accomplished using the commercial B.E.M code. The characteristics of natural frequency(eigenvalues), mode shape(eigenvectors) and frequency-displacement response are analyzed. The results of this study will be used as the useful design data in preliminary anti-vibration design stage.

  • The form-resistant Systems like a dome and shell are used more widely than post-beam structure system in large space structure. Single layer latticed dome system, one of the form-resistant system, has great merits in manufacturing and constructing but the failure mechanism is not clarified yet. The purpose of this paper is to find out the buckling characteristics of single-layer latticed domes with square network by using the experimental method. Major test parameters are the stiffness of lattice member and space of square lattice. The specimens are applied uniform loading of snow type.

  • The egg morphology of minute intestinal flukes (MIF) that can occur as human infections in the Republic of Korea, i.e., Metagonimus yokogawai, M. miyatai, M. takahashii, Heterophyes nocens, Heterophyopsis continua, Stellantchasmus falcatus, Stictodora fuscata, Pygidiopsis summa, and Gymnophalloides seoi, was studied in comparison with Clonorchis sinensis. The adult worms were obtained from residents of endemic areas, and their intrauterine eggs were studied and measured using light microscopy; the length, width, length-width ratio (LWR), and Faust-Meleney index (FMI). Several specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and before gold-coating, the uterine portion of each fluke was etched with a sharp pin in order to expose the eggs. The MIF eggs were ovoid, pyriform, or elliptical with a size range of $21-35{\times}12-21{\mu}m$. S. fuscata eggs revealed the highest FMI (largest in the area) and lowest LWR, whereas P. summa eggs showed the lowest FMI and medium LWR. SEM revealed that G. seoi and S. fuscata had remarkably clean shell surface lacking the muskmelon-like structure which is prominent in C. sinensis eggs. In Metagonimus spp., H. continua, H. nocens, and S. falcatus eggs, minute surface ridges were recognizable though less prominent compared with C. sinensis. On the surface of P. summa eggs, thread-like curly structures were characteristically seen. The results revealed that important differential keys for MIF eggs include the length, width, area (FMI), shape of the eggs, and the extent of the muskmelon-like structure or ridges on their shell surface and operculum.

  • The some papers which deal with the dynamic instability for shell-like structures under the step load have been published, but there are few papers which treat the essential phenomenon of the dynamic buckling using the phase plane for investigating occurrence of chaos. In nonlinear dynamics, examining the characteristics of attractor on the phase plane and investigating the dynamic buckling process are very important thing for understanding why unstable phenomena are sensitively originated by various initial conditions. In this study, the direct and the indirect snap-buckling of shallow arches considering geometrical nonlinearity are investigated numerically and compared with the static critical load.

  • In this paper, a realtime approach to the simulation of virtual paper with an adaptive mesh structure is proposed. The proposed method can be applied to arbitrary triangular mesh structures and efficiently produces wrinkles and creases on the paper surface with stable numerical integration and deformation-based mesh refinement. In order to plausibly represent the crumples on the paper object, we employed an adaptive mesh structure with breakable springs. Because the adaptive structure continuously inserts or removes vertices and edges to or from the mesh structure, the conservation of the mass and the momentum should be carefully taken into account for the plausible simulation of the virtual paper. The proposed method produced plausible animation of paper-like thin shell in realtime environments.
